I think it was Villareal's 2nd penalty where he just softly knelt down really infuriated me. At least dive!
His lack of conviction in the pens...well id think he didnt give a hoot. You would almost think he wasnt 100pc because he didnt have the backing of Ole.

    100% this.

Ole deserves the sack - what a fecking cowardly performance. He should be ashamed of his in-game management. He lost us the game tonight - there is no one else to blame.
Pathetic, reminds me if the psg game where he clearly froze

The thing about De Gea is that he looks like he doesn't give a feck. He's so laid back and 'calm' behind the eyes, there's no intensity, passion or engagement in his body language.

The game is not on him but fecking hell, it's so predictable.
Did you see the close-up of his face in the replay after he missed the pen? He was distraught.

Agree re DDG, the way he softly knelt down for I think their second penalty irritated me. Dive at least. Then his tame penalty

I've had my doubts about Ole for a while, yes he's done some good things but he's out of his depth.

Fergie is in the presentation line up and it makes you realise how far we have sunk. That we are so impotent against a bang average Villarreal side with a fraction of our resources.

They did great over a tough season - deserved better. I’d totally forgive DDG: if blame must be given - I’d say Ole for playing Rashford and being too slow to bring on subs. And Rashford for a dire, dire display, including missing an absolute sitter. Still, the team - and Ole too - deserves praise, for a gutsy and spirited season.

Well, that was epic. I only switched this on for the penalties and was not disappointed. At 8-8 I wondered if there had ever been a clean sweep of 22 penalties.

Ole loved him as a player but hes ashit manager...no subs in 90 minutes

Failed again...first it was failing at semis, now it failing at finals?

No chance we win anything with him and its not about buying in players...he just cant manage a game and we’ve seen it for the last two and a half seasons ffs

Should've easily beaten this lot. Played straight into their hands.

Villarreal congrats on winning a trophy on playing non football and taking pens, played for it from ko, and got what they deserved, 120mins and we should gave more and it goes back to the A villa game when they stopped playing, and then try to go again was not on, DDG cannot blame him, this was on the cards from the time we got into the top 4 guaranteed, these guys need a good look at themselves and take it, like us as fans have to, UTD had better players better athletes but not better tactics, Villareal just stopped a team playing and not playing themselves only in patches, Terry Gibson said it as much they will not move an inch and they didn't. Utd need to learn from this Ole needs to learn from this, I think those guys dont deserve to lose this final but dont deserve to win it either, not the best advert for football, that's why I'd have rather played The gunners in the final it would have been a better advert for football. And the ref was the worst I've seen in a long time . Scot mctomminay was the best in a Utd shirt feel sorry for him .

Oh man the empty feeling after such thing. One year of playing this competition. Shite group stage, Sociedad, Milan, Roma all those games, travels, rotation just to stand here with empty hands again, handing the trophy to an average team who have never won anything.
And the outlook? Another season miles behind City. Feels awful at the moment

Hope the players give Ole dogs abuse back in the changing room...they should rightly be very angry at him

I know he's generally awful at penalties, I remember watching him for Spain in one and not getting near them then I think he came back to us and was awful for a few months. But then we all know how it's a massive weakness of his, so Ole should have subbed him off and put Henderson on. Who's to say Henderson would have saved one, we will never know, but his record is better. They said before that Henderson has saved 6 since DDG last saved one.
Fair enough use Dave for the actual game, then bring on Henderson for the penalties

He looked limp and kind of weak in his body language in goal I just didn't think he'd get a save.
Hendersons is our no 1 at the moment so to play your admittedly 2nd keeper in a final is being kind to him and lacking winning mentality. There's too much sentimentality on this forum for De Gea as well, I think he leads a poll here for that reason in my opinion.

Would have liked to give him something to smile about and enjoy seeing us win something :( he was enjoying the penalties as well.

Henderson couldn't do worse. And it makes no sense to prefer Henderson then give the nod to De Gea for the final when the Spaniard's nose will be out of joint. He has wanted to leave to go back to Spain so odd to give him the nod tonight.

Agree, it's a miserable night, and we should have taken this team apart, froze, not good enough to break down a block, and they got there tactics spot on and it worked , let's see how the summer transfer window goes, and what we can do from there.

Certainly won't miss Pogba if he decides to leave - lost count of how many games against lesser teams where he doesn't dominate or, as tonight, disappears altogether.

Bruno had moments but not enough, Cavani barely saw the ball, Rashford was an utter joke. Shaw was poor. Only person who showed any desire and passion was Scotty. Everyone else gets a score of one or two and Ole gets f@ck all because he actually did f@ck all

Nah Henderson is our no 1 he should be starting this game the Cup games for keepers are to keep the back ups happy...the manager forgot this.

I don't remember Rashford missing a sitter but my stream did go down a couple of times.

I agree, he just kind of crumpled to the floor on a couple

We all know he's weak at penalties, even if you use him for the main part of the game then bring Henderson on for the penalties.

He looks like jelly and limply falls out of the way of so many not just this shoot out. I can imagine if I was s penalty raker that I wouldn't even consider his as a barrier to my shot hitting the net.

I think that DDG display in goal from those pens I'm not having a pop, he could have done better, and I think it showed hes off , Tom Heaton back announced today as well, his heart is not here, I picked him in line up and still want him to stay, but his display for some if those pens were straight down the middle, he just went down on his knees, even my mrs said what's he doing isnt he supposed to try and save those? New hed miss his pen he wanted out of there.

Because de gea didn't save any of the 11 world class pens?
Lots of clueless clients in this thread. Blaming David De Gea, etc. The game is new to many, or they are more used to video games. Heartbreaking way to go out. Love to all. Good on Mata for taking the first peno. Cavani was excellent. So was Scotty. They were a mean and dirty outfit; I was worried for Shaw, ref let a lot go.

Lads blaming DDG should just go and fornicate themselves. All their penalties were excellent. So were ours.
Blaming the ref is equally inane.
We showed great heart, grit, fight whatever you want to call it for most of the game. Scott McTominay was nothing short of heroic, Shaw, AWB, Greenwood & Cavani not far behind him.
We have a lot of talent but are very poorly managed in my opinion.

It’s not De Gea’s fault but he’s not good at penalties. Henderson should have been brought on.
