As long as the fans see you try they'll back you. Shevchenko is still respected at Chelsea. With Torres, his head went down towards the end and stopped trying.
torres after a while started to hide on the wing
fair play to timo no matter how wank hes been in front of goal he still makes the runs

Yeah it took years before people got sick of Torres.

People reaalllyyy wanted him to succeed at Chelsea because a) I think people really liked him and b) he cost £50m which at the time as a crazy amount to spend on one player, so no-one really wanted a purchase of that magnitude to be a flop.
c) they wanted to rub it into Liverpool fans' faces

Unpopular opinion: he's gonna come good in the coming season(s) and score a lot of goals.

Interestingly he scored 25+ goals last season for Leipzig. But we've seen nothing of that clinicalness this season.

I just can't get worse, haven't seen such a wasteful attacking player for a while now on this level.

But its clearely not because the PL is stronger, since he creates the chances and is always involved in Chelseas attacking game. He always is in front of the goal, but somethign always happens, unreal.

He has been really clinical 4/5 seasons in a row. Would be surprised if he doesn't score at least 10 more goals next season.

Werner was always mentally weak. Remember how he was subbed due to the Beskitas whisles? It played with his head.

At Leipzig outside the spotlight he was fine, but in the spotlight he is far too weak mentally in order to perform.

I'm sure at training he smashed all those chances into the net.

Anyway he's a UCL winner and his German friend who was also criticised at the start of the year, Havertz, put in a monster performance. Werner can turn it around.

I think the same. It's always a good sign when players are getting into these positions, even if his misses have been pretty hilarious.

Exactly. I think getting in the right positions is the more repeatable skill and his movement is really good.

I know at this moment in time he couldn’t hit a barn door but thought he played well tonight and you can see why Tuchel persists with him. Really troubled the City back line. If he fines his scoring touch he might just become something special. Works his socks off.

He is a good player, he just happens to be a terrible finisher. Everything else is pretty good and valuable for his team.

Edit: He reminds me Olic who is a player that I liked a lot for the HSV and Bayern.

If he could finish like Haaland he'd be a big problem.

With the attitude he has, if he regains even half of his prior finishing prowess next season he'll be good.

If anyone could finish like Haaland they’d be a big problem. That’s why Haaland is such a big problem.

Apart from not being able to score hes been really good most times ive seen him. Has a bit of the Tore Andre Flo about him. I guess its just him adjusting to the speed of the league expect him to get better next season. He played well tonight.

Excellent call, was thinking the same before. Down to the body position when running.

Olic was a better finisher though :wenger:

He was instrumental for the goal today.

Crap tonight. Not just finishing. Final pass and/or decisions very poor too. He can make those runs in behind all he wants but he’ll remain a liability so long as he’s that careless at the sharp end of the pitch.
Agreed that he was crap tonight but at the same time he was absolutely key for the goal with his run to create a gap between Dias and Zinchenko - this is the thing with Werner and why he's constantly picked; his running is relentless and it creates so many opportunities for the team as a whole. He was first in sprints among forwards this season in the PL by a wide margin - his absurd workrate is valuable even in the absence of anything even approaching end product.

Exactly, people can cirticize all they want. But he is so important for Chelseas attacking game. Why would he start in the most important matches otherwise. Surely by now everyone knows Tuchel is a extremly good coach and there is a reason why he starts Werner..

He's a strange fella.

His runs are nightmare to defend , dias looked absolutely clueless against him. His run was 50% of the Havertz goal , since he dragged the Defensive Line out of Havertz.

And then his shooting is absolutely shocking. He's the German Sterling in finishing. Time will tell if he can improve his finishing , finishing is actually the easiest thing to train unless u are Sterling

He is Chelsea’s Bobby.
Important player for the team but won’t be wining any golden boots.

Does anyone think he will start scoring next season?
I'm thinking they should relieve him from any finishing duties and just have him run defenses to shreds and set up goals for someone else. Kane or Haaland, whoever Roman decides to to splurge on.

Thought Werner was brilliant in his role last night. He scuffed a couple of chances - that happens to the best, too - but overall he was a constant thorn in the City defence. Watch the final twenty minutes again and notice how Chelsea struggled to stretch City as effectively when he left the pitch. He filleted City on the transition all night and his movement created oceans of space for Havertz and Co.

I said this months ago but I’d love Werner at United and think he’d be a brilliant foil for our other attackers as none make and exploit space as superbly as he does.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Yep. There are some players who struggle at first and you can tell they will probably just continue being flops, but there are other players that you can see have a fairly good chance of turning it around and becoming an annoyingly good player for their team. Werner is the latter for me.

I’ve never seen a player get so much leeway. Doesn’t seem to matter how poorly he plays and how many chances he misses people on here will defend him.

He's the worst finisher I've seen at the top level. It's the number of absolutely pathetic attempts he produces more than anything. There were a couple last night. His runs in behind have been a key aspect of Chelsea's attack under Tuchel though.

He mostly does not play poorly in every aspect. Just his finishing prevents him from being world class. As long as he is instrumental for his team in other ways he will be defended.

He plays at the top end of the pitch to score and create chances not run around and cause a nuisance. You can find far better players who do both.

He’s always been technically pretty weak too and now he really can’t hit a barn door either. Chelsea would with out a doubt massively upgrade on him.
