Uefa to scrap away goals rule

Should have been scraped long ago. Not fair for the team losing on away goals given that the match go into extra time on the 2nd leg.

For example, Juventus and Porto were stalemate at full time. Then the goal that Ronaldo let through resulted in Porto beating Juventus 3-2 and win on away goal after extra time.

Then Bayern didn't get to play extra time because they already lost on 'away goals'.

But I think the problem goes further than that. Uefa also needs to settle the rights to play another extra 30 mins of ET and also penalties on television channels all over the world.

it's a shit rule and it has led to unfair results every year so I'd say this step is long time overdue

Maybe it’s because we’ve been fecked by this rule loads in the last 30 years but I’m quite pleased about this. It did add drama but it’s never really been the fairest rule.

If they scrap away goals then hopefully they do the right thing and stop the ET nonsense too. 2 games of 90 mins and then to penalties.

I thought they already scrapped it?

I was very confused during the EL final because we were the away team and won the game 2-1 (away goals count double), so I was very confused when the game restarted instead of seeing our players celebrating a magical European win.

Keep the away goals. Scrap it if it goes to ET. Is it so hard to comprehend?

Which game are you talking about?

I hope you haven't been watching football for long because, frankly, this is one of the most bizarre posts I've seen on here.

As if the players aren't tired enough after having to fit in loads of football, going into a World Cup year UEFA decides to scrap away goals and guarantee loads more extra time being played?

How many players will get muscle injuries over the next 12-18 months? By time World Cup 2022 is out of the way I'll be surprised if there's any top player not nursing major injuries.

Or it was a dumb post and someone's trying to pretend otherwise.
It wasn't my post, so there's no pretending going on. The poster is nearing 11k posts on here so what's the bigger chance, that he doesn't understand the away goals rule in a neutral venue, or that you missed the sarcasm?

I'm sorry, I didn't realise I'd entered the failed unfunny comedian thread. I thought this was a discussion about the away goals change.

Well, my point was that it wasn't funny. Anyway, let's not detail this thread any further.

I agree, it’s not very funny in itself so I want to thank you for taking the bait which was the entire point of the joke.

So basically no incentive for the away team to attack anymore. Great!

UEFA ruining football with shite decisions like this, the sport is already dying but they are accelerating it even further

Playing 2 legs seems a bit pointless then, doesn’t it?

Great, silly rule anyway. Though only scrapping it for extra time would've been fine too, since that gives one team a clear advantage.

Another extra playing minutes for footballer, nice. Told you UEFA is as croocked as ESL.

Not a fan of this move for a lot of reasons really. Increased probability of the away team being super defensive and probably a lot more extra time/penalties too which means shite games can drag out and I hate penalty shootouts as a decider of a game when a team I support is involved. More extra time means more fatigue too.

This rule will kill some of the very little romance left in the game.

Bit by bit it's being changed for the the worse, 20 years from now who knows what the game will look like.
