Famously Micah Richards burst onto the scene when he, when he....uhm. Yeah...

Anyway, which players burst onto the scene and what even is bursting onto the scene?

Marcus Rashford - scored 2 goals on his debut and started because everyone else was injured
Mbappe - came alive in the second of the season for Monaco when they had that great squad under Jardim
Wayne Rooney - ended Arsenal's unbeaten run with a worldy at 16 years old and looked a seasoned professional at 18

David Busst, Coventry centre-back from the 90s.

Edit: misread thread title
He certainly burst all over the Old Trafford pitch. Poor bastard.

Rooney is probably the obvious answer here. The hype for him during Euro 2004 was more than I can remember for any other player in my lifetime.

Can't go wrong with Gianluigi Buffon — as he somehow kept a clean sheet vs. eventual champions Milan, who boasted the attacking qualities of former Ballon D'Or winner Baggio and would-be Ballon D'Or winner Weah, at the tender age of 17. Just went from strength to strength from that point on — Serie A runner-up (behind Lippi's all-powerful Juventus) in his first full season, made his Italy debut at age 19, won the UEFA Cup at age 20, and so forth.
‟I have never seen a debut like his for the personality and quality he showed” — Dino Zoff

Mbappe and Haaland are the two biggest ones most recently. Mbappe just started scoring for fun at like 17, leading Monaco to the title and doing it in the champions league.

And rightly so as he was an absolute force of nature at that time.

Currently the newest player who's bursting onto the scene would be Dortmund's Moukoko.

Mbappé didn't burst onto the scene in the second half of the season you are thinking about. It was the previous season and he didn't really burst onto the scene either since he had multiple cameos where he showed that he was good enough for the first team and eventually begun the 2016/2017 season as a starter but had a clash and concussion during the first game, Jardim then brought him back slowly.

Those two lads from QPR and West Brom who everyone all of a sudden wanted and then they seemingly disappeared into oblivion.

John O’Shea. Burst onto the scene as a tall, kind of two footed marauding left back. Absolutely dynamite when he broke through.

Still had a wonderful career but night and day difference to what I imagined when I saw him breaking into the first team.

Rooney for sure,

Looked great pretty much from the get go at Everton,

Propelled to stardom rapidly after joining us and scoring that hattrick against Fenerbahce

Slightly different to what the OP meant but maybe Arshavin?

I think not many people outside Russia really knew who he was when he had that good tournament with Russia and looked absolute quality. Signed for Arsenal soon after

For me Rooney was the most incredible. He was 16 and already looked better, stronger and faster than pretty much every prem player out there. At 18 he was literally bullying defenders in their late 20's and bulldozering through defences. He had an incredible raw technical ability too. He just oozed power and technique. I've never seen anything like it. He was a better player at 20 than at 28.

Henry maybe? I'd not heard much about him and i think he was playing on the wings for Juve. Seemed to explode at Arsenal. Same with Viera.

Robbie Keane was another, he had some incredible season at Coventry - his first in the prem. Think he was only about 17 and then Inter Milan, who were a massive club at the time came and signed him for some crazy fee.

Junior Hoilett and Berahino? Or maybe you mean Charlie Austin
That's them. Couldn't even think of their names to google them.

Hoilett is at Cardiff, think it was actually Blackburn where he looked initially broke through and looked decent and ended up getting relegated with that QPR side that just signed anyone they could and that was it really.

Berahino, WBA rejected Spurs and Stoke bids and he ended up going to Stoke for about half what they offered after Pulis left him put because of the bids and transfer request. He's now at Zulte Waregem.

I don’t really follow midtable clubs closely but Saka burst onto the scene at Arsenal this season, hasn’t he?

Not quite Rooney levels of bursting but up there with the second tier bursts (e.g. Micah)

Wayne Rooney... who could ever forget that sublime hat-trick against Fenerbahce on his debut.. Unbelievable talent at such a young age.

Greenwood caused quite a stir in recent memory
Greenwood was a bit like Mbappe like JPRouve mentions above in that he had limited appearances the season before where you could see the talent was there. It was the subsequent season where he then started bagging.

Four names spring to mind but don't know if they really burst onto the scene or took a bit to get some recognition. The English duo scored at young ages.

Berahino was very surprising. Hoilett to me never looked that great but Berahino had a 20 goal season for WBA when he was 20 and then never even stayed PL level good after that. I think he threw a prolonged strop for a move, rotted in the reserves and was finished by the time he got his move.

Julian Draxler as a 17 year old was brought on in the 115th minute or so in the DFB Pokal semi final at 2-2. In the 118th minute he beat a man to then score a screamer on his weaker foot from 25 yards out.

They then started him in the final where he scored the opening goal within the first 15 minutes with a brilliant volley.

They went on to win the cup.

He really burst onto the scene.

Gareth Bale. Became a star overnight with his hat trick against Inter.

Probably right about Hoilett to be fair, I remember him being linked to Liverpool and Spurs after a decent spell for Blackburn.

Berahino, he did look like he had something alright. Since that 20 goal season he's scored about 20 goals in 5 years.
