Couldn’t agree more, the fawning over Pogba is embarrassing, let’s get him gone and get someone in who wants to be at the club.

Tielemans would be great, talk was that he really wanted to come here a couple of years ago and I’d love Greilish at United, I think he’s a better player than Pogba and he’d become a massive player here but can’t see it happen.
The thing that makes it hard to accept is he hasn't even been that good for us - you put up with a player flirting with other clubs if they turn up every week and deliver, that's the nature of having players from all over the world who grew up dreaming of other clubs (like Ronaldo). Any good performance from him, which is hardly regular, is followed by a Mino tweet and loads of Pogba interviews, then he drops his level and disappears from sight.

Inevitable.
We were never going to let our 90million man wander off for free in a year,
And Poggers won't find higher wages elsewhere, surely?

If Pogba leaves on a free again then it just shows how inept we are as a club. He left free the first time round and if he does it again that's twice. If he runs down his contract then that's on him but we should have signed him before this even became an issue.
I don’t understand the logic here. If him leaving on a free it shows the club to be inept, what do you propose they should have done to prevent it? Offer him huge money earlier so he’d renewed already, or sell him for way below value because nobody was offering enough?

I’ve never heard of this 10% rule before sorry.

Bruno is much the same only he fluctuates more in individual games. His form from December to the end of the season was all over the place. In fact he had more poor performances than good and very few really good performances, yet his entire season will be viewed positively. It’s strange that he can have such a long period of inconsistent form yet be positively viewed, yet someone who was mainly good and often great with a handful of poor performances from December to May will be viewed as having a poor season. Same with Oles first season. The great run of form was disregarded for a much shorter period of poor form than Bruno has just endured, hell I don’t even think people realise Bruno was poor because his every touch isn’t micro analysed. Pogba was actually abused on the pitch by our supporters that season. I find it very very strange.
Well you won't have because I've just made it up.

It won't literally be 10% but the jist of what I'm saying is that yeah top players fluctuate in form but not by much. They tend to have a high bottom level and then peaks.

I'm guessing you think Pogba's form has fluctuated just like any other player, De Bruyne, David Silva, Salah, Kane etc.

Personally I think he's much more wild than that, much more extreme. Sometimes his game can drop to below a five out of ten.

And that's assuming that the player agrees on a sale and with the clubs interested.

Exactly.

There’s an absolute litany of good reasons to slag off the owners/execs of the club, we don’t need be making others up.

We already are so dependent on Bruno+Pogba to create for the rest of the team and we have seen the both of them gel very well together. Selling Pogba would mean living and dying on Bruno which would be really naive to do (we saw last year when Pogba was hurt and Bruno has to be overplayed...when he would be subbed off or have a rare rest day, the team couldn’t generate anything).

Pogba is a grown man now, let him decide his own future. United are in no position to command any sort of worthwhile fee so no point in pocketing the Glazers money anyways. Let Pogba decide for himself - if he sticks around, he in all likelihood will finally reap the benefits in the near future for having come back and stuck around despite some very incompetent teams/managers/boards in that spell with Ole finally having brought stability and a vision. & if he leaves, Pogba will know himself he failed in the grand scheme of things but at the end of the day whatever, it’s his choice. If he’s fed up from the previous seasons he’s had to endure with having had minimal help around him, then that’s understandable too.

if it were up to me, definitely try to extend him. The people with an agenda against him saying they don’t want him regardless don’t have a clue or know football

Well this is it, isn’t it. The crux of the issue.

It’s painfully obvious but never addressed. Instead we revert to calling an elite talent ‘shite’ and ‘lazy’ instead of supporting and making the most on our investment.

It’s like buying a house and being angry becuase you never bothered to have windows fitted...
So Herrera, Matic and Fred is like leaving a house with no windows? 130 million quid worth of talent to unlock Pogba is quite a sizeable investment/experiment already. The best partner he had was Matic and all that time everyone was screaming for a more mobile partner… Fred the most mobile player on the market for a double pivot. Still not enough… nothing is going to work. Not rice or ndidi. You cant have a double pivot where one of your players is playing with low intensity and liable to switch off while defending. It just doesn’t work no matter who his partner is.

If we sign Sancho, Pogba leaving becomes much less of an issue. At present the team needs Pogba's creativity but Sancho is one of the most creative players in the world so we'd be fine. Losing Pogba will mean we can get proper CMs in and finally have a balanced team for the first time in 3 years.

It's with this type of mindset that explains why the club is fecked with so many overpaid underperforming players.

Don't perform well? Here's a contract extension and a pay raise to protect your value.
A contract extension is probably fine. Not with a payrise though.

That's very true. We'd be able to have a more balanced midfield by getting a deeper lying midfielder than replacing Pogba if we got Sancho.

Salah I think for sure, the others maybe not. I think it’s generally in line with the team. I struggle to think of a single game where the team have played well and Pogba hasn’t. Bruno for example is more of an impact player and has had a bigger impact as a result. Performance wise though he’s been no less up and down either.

we can always sell him if he underperformed again. I'd rather we sold him for some money than the club losing its face letting him to walk away for free, TwICE.

He has been here 5/6 years they should have created a team around him to challenge for trophies, yes we did win the EL that should have been the impetus to kick on and show him there is vision to win many more trophies. That hasn't happened and it's become the situation that is now that to get him to sign will be harder.

If we give him 4/500k a week he will be very hard to sell for a fee. Once the wages hit that height it’s loans with the new club picking up half the wages etc which means you may as well have just fully cut your losses. Big clubs are letting these players walk now instead of giving out 500k a week unless their performances are worth it. Bayern would be selling Pogba this summer for example.

Just like how the club sold Rojo, Jones and Romero for some money?

Giving him a contract extension with a pay raise for his showing over the years would make us a a bigger laughing stock when he continues to under perform and have his agent and brother mock us through the media.

Bruno needs Fred. He’s a very big part of why he’s so successful.

“Although Fred has had no direct involvement in goals and has created few chances, he does rank high when it comes to the ‘two offensive actions’ leading to a goal or a shot. Nearly 90% of the Brazilian’s shot-creating actions have been passes, suggesting he picks out Bruno Fernandes in areas from which he can create chances”

This is absolutely essential to how we currently play. Get the ball early and fast to Bruno. Now Switch to a languid Pogba and wasteful Bruno with Kante behind them and you’ve almost certainly come back full circle to the fact that we actually lose more than we win with Pogba and Bruno in the same team.

Pogba is the elephant in the room since we signed Bruno. We don’t need both in midfield. We could play a 433 with Pogba or a 4231 with Bruno. It’s a waste of a space where someone else could be pressing and working hard off the ball shutting the other teams play down close to the source and thus making us more dominant in the game and able to create better quality chances due to having more of the ball and limiting the other team to half chances. It’s very important to get that balance right instead of forcing names into a team.

That’s really interesting, goes to show how important work rate is and how that can compliment ability.

Well it works for France mate.

Also the players you listed are average partners at best aren’t they, let’s be honest, the price tags have nothing to do with it, we overpay, always have. Matic aside who was a top player in his time.

He had a spell of looking excellent next to Matic, but Matic is done, legs went shortly after arriving. We all know this.

What we’ve done is waste money on half-measures instead of properly replacing Matic with an actual DM. Fred and Herrera are not true DM’s they are box to box.

France are so good player wise, that they are so much better than most teams they play against.

Let's see how he does in the Euros with an actual midfield around him. I hate making excuses as much as the next man, but McFred is hardly a foundation upon which to build a world class football team.

All thoes references to Scholes seem to ignore that he was hardly helpful in a defensive sense. He always had other players doing that for him. And he was rather reknowned for giving away needless free kicks - like Pogba. (fewer pens of course).

If we could manage to remain solid with Pogba in the 'two' of Ole's 4231 we'd be sorted. We've just never managed to work out a partner that manages to make that happen. The Carrick role.

It's easy to blame Pogba, but Herrera, Fred, McT and a past-it Matic are not good enough to enable a 2 man midfield no matter who the other player is.

I wonder if we'll throw in a reasonably low release clause (50M?) to sweeten the deal.

The negotiating power is all with Pogba right now, so I assume it'll take some crazy wages and low release clause to get him to sign. Wages have to be as high as what PSG would offer him if they got him on a free next year.

if we keep on playing 4231 then we need 2 good box to box players and not a sitter. That’s oles preference for whatever reason. The main problem is that Bruno and Pogba aren’t actually as creative together as some might be lead to believe and whoever is behind them isn’t going to change that. They cancel each other out and let the opposition dig in effectively and counter all too often. I think I answered it better about 3 posts up. The stats seem to be there to back it up after a season and a half.

Enough of the frenchies stinking up the place. Enough is enough.

Hopefully we learned the lesson, and the next frenchies we go for, are those with a "No nonsense" attitude like Kante or Varane.

We just wasted money on Donny when Pogba was injured for awhile last season Ole should have played Donny in Pogba's place. I don't know why he doesn't trust him.
I think its because Donny is essentially a 'pass and move' player in the Mata mould, he's the kind that likes to make the pass and move triangles with other players. unfortunately we don't play that way and in my opinion its why we stumble when we come up against packed defences; if we cannot play around them or over them, or the occasional midfielder coming late into the box, like McTominay, who can burst through, then we struggle to actually play through them. Not sure what Ole is going to do...not sure he knows either!

It’s a functional midfield, no matter what strength you have in other areas a non functioning midfield will be shown up.

His limitations have been known since his Juve days. Now we pretend we didn’t know about them and the fact he needs defensively sound players alongside him, nonsense, it’s been known and largely ignored.

If we didn’t like that issue about the player then we shouldn’t have bought him.
It’s not as though a top DM isn’t already desperately needed within the squad anyway REGARDLESS of Pogba’s inclusion.

Totally agree with this. The long Matic contract extension and no further investment in the position is almost criminal at this stage unless they were playing the long game with Garner as 6 and possibly Hannibal as an 8. I personally can’t see Ole taking as many risks as we need to make that final push next season. It’s just not in his character by the looks of things. going by his total lack of rotation It feels like he’s going to keep certain pointless players around until they decide to leave and keep playing out of form or tired players mostly because he doesn’t trust anyone else. It’s weird to be honest.

Maybe Murtough will have the final say in shaking things up from now on and that will have a positive knock on freshening up the fringes of the squad but it’s up to Ole to play them at the end of the day

You give him the first season? Okay what if I tell you that he was in the EL team of the year in 2017/2018 and he had one of his best season at United alongside Matic and the following season he is in the 18/19 PFA team of the year.
Sorry for the late reply. Pogba had a very good spell when Mourinho deservedly got the sack but nothing that impressive for a so-called superstar. Remember, that Chelsea guy (Ruben Loftus-Cheek) put up similar numbers during that time but nobody is talking about him now.

Of course a Pogba in his prime years delivered something from time to time, but it could and should have been a lot more. I remember the moaning on Juventuz when United bought him, for them he was very good. I don't think his heart in it (anymore), he should've won United the Europa League, just like Hazard did for Chelsea, but when the going gets tough, he isn't influencing the matches enough. He's playing like a Tielemans (an average midfielder bought for about 40 mil.) Not good enough for United.

I don’t see the big deal in giving him a new contract as if he decides to start flirting with other clubs again we can sell him, no one can afford him this summer and next year he’d be off on a free.

Some may disagree but I fully believe that a pure out and out defensive midfielder alongside Pogba would work perfectly and allow us to play both Pogba and Fernandes in the same team, add Sancho to that and the struggle we have with low block teams is less of a problem as that’s a lot of creativity in the team.

There is no denying that Pogba hasn’t lived up to expectations and has at best been hit and miss but that doesn’t mean we should write him off and let him leave on a free next year, he’s unlike any other midfielder in the game and on his day as good as any midfielder in the world.

It's often Bruno or Pogba or None. The fact that we are still so often devoid of creativity/ideas whilst they are both on the pitch, clearly shows something is wrong.

If he doesnt sign the contract, just sell him. Go for Rodrigo De Paul.

Think we've mentioned this before but I feel you use the teams performance as an excuse for Pogba underperforming. He's supposed to be one of those that gets the team playing.

What that means is whenever the team is poor, we can't comment on any individual players performance. Because they've all then got that excuse.

But what's positive is that the manager and coaches seem to view Pogba like lots of fans do. Talented, an able contributor, but not indispensable. So we shouldn't be held to ransom come negotiation time.

In 2018/2019 the caf gave Pogba 10 MOTM awards, 4 before Mourinho's sacking and 6 after is sacking, the next player was Shaw with 6 MOTM awards. Also Pogba was player of the tournament the year we won the Europa League.

He's got nowhere near the ability Pogba has,no. However what he does have he uses
This what some people don't get. For instance prime Carrick is not as talented as Pogba but they way he used his skill set he would probably make a much bigger impact for us than Pogba. Too much has to be done to get the best out of him, buy a top cdm and then play him lcm. When this top cdm is out injured or suspended do we bench Pogba? I would want him sold if we would use the funds for his replacement.

Don't think it means much since we're giving everyone new contracts nowadays.

I'd be very suprised if this leads to anything. This is the start of a year long rollercoaster with "we're close, guys!" updates until he walks on a free.

How come PsG never come for him? He's a French international, a moslem, prwell behaved & well-liked by his peer, also extremely famous with globally well-known brand. I genuinely think he'd their perfect poster boy, better than Neymar who never missed a chance to visit his sister's birthday every year. :wenger:
thinking moslem owners prefer moslem players

Yeah, I've been positive regards Ole and the players he's gotten rid of and largely for the players he's brought in. But the renewal of Matic without strengthening that position may be his downfall.

A top DM in this side has SO many positives it's untrue. I've been saying it for so long.

It would bring the best out of Pogba (whether people like to hear that or not - it's just obvious), protect the back four, help us maintain possession, allow us to play without McFred which limits us massively and just improve the balance and cohesion within the team massively imo. If we got the right player that is.

That's because Sky posted a breaking news minutes before the start of an FFF press conference where Pogba was the designated player and a journalist from Le Parisien used it to ask him about his contract situation and PSG.
