Omg what happened, is he ok? I just got the update on my phone
Uknown cause of collapse on the pitch. Received extenisve CPR after less than a minute and was eventually taken off the pitch concious on a stretcher. He's currently in hospital for testing and further treatment

Collapsed out of nowhere, no one near him. Seemed completely unresponsive, and they administered CPR. It was, naturally, very dramatic and harrowing to see.

So happy there's good news filtering through now. I feared the worst after the BBC chose to broadcast 8 minutes of them pumping his chest and trying to revive him.

Thankful my kids chose not to watch this game. They would not have enjoyed those scenes.
Did they genuinely broadcast 8 mins of them trying to resuscitate him? That’s disgraceful.

Really scary stuff and all the props should go to the medical team that saved his life.

I hope he makes a full recovery, and what that means for his career is another question of course.

The silver-lining in all of this is, if you are going to have a cardiac arrest better have one in a stadium full of medics.

If that happened in training or anywhere else I wonder what would have happened.

Not a medic or a doctor, but is this just a freak occurrence? would pre-season medicals not show this? or can this simply 'just happen?"

Can a virus just stop your heart without any warning?
Friend of mine had a heart attack in his early 30s. I was at the hospital (Barts in London) when the consultant came around to try explain what caused it.

The answer was they didn't actually know, they put a defib in though just in case. Pretty scary to put it mildly! He survived and fine since thankfully.

I was watching the game with my 8 year old and he couldn't understand a lot, we were trying to shield him best we could but he's no mug

He's just brought in a get well card he's been drawing in his room for erikson, I've had to run off to the bathroom to hide my tears - I'm in bits! Kids really know how to hit you in the feels

So glad there's encouraging news!
Oh I love that <3

You could see it going on behind the players who formed a shield to try and get some privacy. They respectfully cut away to distraught players and fans at several points during those 8 minutes, but frequently cut back to what was going on behind the Danish players. I'm amazed they didn't pull back to the studio after a minute or so as it was immediately clear something very serious was unfolding.

So happy he's and alive and stable so far. The medics are heroes. I don't care if he plays again, I just want him to stay alive and take care of himself.

Eriksen on the ground had a very real chance of being the last images of his life. To broadcast someone dying is not right.

Eriksen on the stretcher concious and alert is the image absolutely everyone wants to see, because we are happy for him. They saved his life. It's cause for celebration.
It was a split second, the camera operator did their job to get the footage. In that split second nobody intitally knew ehat was going on.

If people feel they have to blame somebody then the editors decide which camera is shown on tv in that moment.

Also there's no way that players aren't being pumped full of epo and God knows what else to push them out of injuries. We will see more of this sooner rather than later. Hopefully Eriksen pulls through
That's a good point, doping is present in sports where a lot less money is involved than in football.

Beautiful stuff

Safe to say these sets of fans are set for an unforgettable night in the pub together anyway

I can’t believe I’m reading they were showing footage of him receiving cpr, absolute scum bags! Needs to be serious repercussions for that.

Football means nothing right now, hope he will be back on his feet soon. Scary seeing that on live tv

Same. As long as he alive and ok, when and if he plays doesn't matter under the circumstances.

What happened to him looked very much like a heart attack Those are extremely treacherous. Just because they brought him to consciousness doesn't mean he is safe but UEFA tweeting that he is stable is encouraging

Yep. As graphically as seeing them shock his body with a defibrillator.
Thankfully players created a body shield around him to give him as much privacy as possible. TV Broadcasters are shameless scumbags for even pointing cameras at him, however.

Just saw the footage, that didn't look good at all. Looked like a cardiac issue.

Not defending and it is was wrong. But some of the comments on here in response to showing cpr. The footage wasnt showing this directly. It was showing the human emotions, camaraderie and seriousness of the situation from the players shielding him.
Think some of the comment on here from people not watching the game may have the wrong idea of what the actual footage was from other comments.
Just glad to see Eriksen is concious and hope he makes a recovery. The most harrowing part for me was his wife on the sidelines being consoled by Kjaer and Schmeichel, it was that point I really feared the worse

Cardiac issue is very vague, it's impossible to know what happened at this point. His heart could be totally fine and it might be a cerebrovascular accident. Now it's all about figuring out why his heart stopped.

In a way it was fortunate this happened in a time and place where medics were just a few seconds and minutes a away. If it had been on a jog in his spare time he might have been dead.

Split second? Where in outer space are you? They fecking broadcasted the entire thing, even him receiving fecking cpr and them using a defib...

The player collapsed, players instantly reacted, everyone was fecking aware that it was bad....they showed a fecking closeup of his eyes, they aren't THAT fecking stupid that they didn't know what was going on

It's appalling they showed it all. Even knowing he's doing okay I can still feel the shock in my stomach. Makes you appreciate why most would could away. Its unpleasant viewing and very macabre that they let it play out on camera.
