Neither of the fullbacks has had much of an impact so far.
I'd actually argue Trippier has played an impact. Three or four times he's played a ball in behind for Sterling or Mount. It actually does appear to be the main reason he's playing.

I could understand him playing if it's specifically to use that tactic, but there have also been one or two frustrating instances where Tripper has had the opportunity to burst past his man onto a through ball precisely the way Shaw has multiple times this season, and instead of going for the byline has cut back onto his right.

Not sure gaining the former is worth losing the latter.

With all the great full back options we have, it’s extremely impressive we’ve ended up with one this shite
That’s the most baffling thing too  overstocked in full back positions but England play a right back at left back

Decent half. Made a good start and should have gone ahead. Dropped off a bit in the latter stages but its to be expected with the heat.

Hoping we can start the second half well and get our goal. Croatia are there for the taking.

Croatia have had less of the ball, but look more likely to take this match. Southgate should seriously think about taking Walker and Sterling off.

Sterling is stinking the place up. He is screaming at his teammates in midfield to pass him the ball and when they do he just looks around, shrugs his t rex arms and passes the ball back to the defenders. Get him off. Also Walker is hasn't been great. Our 2 good players have been Mount and Phillips, with Foden also having a few decent moments.

Croatia is playing fine. Making sure England don't do anything first 15-20. Everyone knows how England plays games. It is like big clubs let small clubs attack first and then pick up some pace.
Thought they came into the game in the last 15 mins or so, I will say that. Up until then they were shite.

How do England manage to turn their most talented squad of players in living memory into that I will never know. Failure, it seems, finds a way.
Scholes-generation don't agree.

I don’t know why it bothers me but I do hate it when pundits refer to certain players by their first name.

Dropping into the space occupied by Mount when he should be on the shoulder. This isn't Spurs, Harry.
Yeah that's a great point.

Think a year playing with that terrible spurs team has made him think he has to come deep.

He needs to stay up front and act as a focal point.

Made a bright start but have struggled since though we made a small push towards the end of the half. Hope to see Grealish in the 2nd half and maybe Rashford if it opens up.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
I know that managers have their own ideas but Southgate is deep in the water with this lineup. Whatever the score will be today I can't see England even being near to a trophy. Shocking to put out those players looking at what country have.
At least he is playing attacking football high up the pitch pressing and very high defence line. I was worried he was going to go with a back five

what is the point of Kane? He's never in a position in the box, he's slow and his passing is shite

kalvin Philipps or Mount can play those balls over the top as well, like you said the pace and drive of Shaw is a big price to pay for what Trippier brings.

Credit where its due; Mings has played well.
Agreed, when he's good he's good.

The last 20/25 minutes were poor. Sterling came into it a bit more with the balls over the top but the rest of the front players struggled to get into it. We aren't progressing the ball well enough with Rice sitting and Kane standing on Mount's toes. I like Kalv and think he's done well, particularly with the license he has to break forward, but there are not enough quality passes going towards Croatia's final third. Walker has been diabolical.

Thought England were pretty decent and the better team but I fancy Croatia to nick a scrappy goal at some point, despite them showing very little in the final third.

Southgate vs Guardiola, though.
Gaz Southgate won't be the manager though.
They still have de Bruyne behind them rather than Kalvin Philipps and Pep instead of this butcher coaching them.
Fair point.
But still I was hoping to see more from them. I guess I missed Foden hitting post, but I think Sterling had a really good chance and snatched at it. Could've at least made the keeper work. And that loop ball that he caught in the penalty area - could've swung straight at it instead of his cutting on his right. Just my 2 cents.

Started well but went a bit flat the second half of the half. Walker has been terrible but a decent enough first half overall. Need Kane more involved in the game.

To be fair there were definitely some terrible weaknesses in that side, left back and left midfield were simply not up to scratch. If Giggs had picked England though, who knows...
