Portsmouth statement: https://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/news/2021/july/portsmouth-football-club-statement/

Portsmouth Football Club are aware of images circulating on social media that allegedly originate from an academy u18 group chat and which are discriminatory in nature.

The club have launched an immediate investigation and will provide an update once this has been completed.

Portsmouth Football Club strongly condemn racism and are totally committed to the elimination of all forms of discrimination. There is no place for it in our game or society as a whole.
The alleged accounts are circulating but no doxxing please.

Don't these kids play with black players? I can't imagine the Portsmouth academy is all white

These are pretty awful to see. You would think that those within the game at the very least are aware of how wrong this is. I just can't understand how any of them thought this was appropriate or wouldn't ruin them

You'd imagine 100% these days.

The dumb thing is these kids are probably not even 'genuinely' racist, they just think it's cool to use racist language and speak this way with their friends.

No doubt this will ruin their potential careers, and stick with them for life. I hope it was worth it :houllier:

It's disgusting but how young are these kids? Hope they pay their price for this stupidity but society still allows room for remorse and change. I know I said some pretty dumb shit as a kid myself.

I don't understand what they're actually talking about. Do young people not talk in sentences any more?

I'm reading it as though they're speculating on what the social media reaction will be to it, rather than their own opinions.

But like I said, i can't understand and I'm probably wrong.

Surely these kids must know what they are saying is racist! How can they not know this are they that dumb to not realise that there will be serious consequences for them.

Yeah, I think the claims it will ruin their careers are over the top. I can see suspensions and "education" (whatever that will mean) put out by Portsmouth.

Still, utter shite and stupid things to be saying. They are getting that behaviour from somewhere too, I hope it's not systematic at the club but let's face it it's likely.

Err...that'll be a hard sell. Did you look at the whole thing, or the crop in Damo's post?

Worrying that these are kids showing this sentiment. Man, the world is f*cked.
My daughter is 14 and has already talked about there being loads of teenage bigots knocking about at her school. She could name 4 or 5 kids who parrot lines like 'all lives matter' without pausing for breath. On the plus side, there are also loads of politically engaged, positive, decent kids who call them out on their bullshit.

In short, the kind of splits we've seen opening up in wider society over the last few years are just as present among that age group. It's a battle that is going on at every level right now.

You'd think this problem is getting worse as these stories seem to be getting more frequent.

Hard to tell if they get encouraged by others doing the same, or whether it's simply the case that everything now gets reported. Whereas a decade ago it was more underground.

Just the crop. Is there more?

I would never defend racism, it's disgusting, and again i'm probably wrong but from that crop i'm reading it as the first guy saying... "Rashford is getting lynched (on twitter or whatever)" then the other one saying "exactly, they're saying this and that" and then the others saying "death threats immediately" as in people will start sending them to him now.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of that though, its just how i would read it but it doesn't make a lot of sense and you probably have a better grip on what they're actually saying.

"The younger generation are less racist" and other such blanket terms that have proven to be false.

When society is ready to have an open and honest conversation about racism and actually do something about it, maybe things can change.
Until then, we'll continue with more performative gestures & gimmicks to make ourselves feel better in the moment. Or we'll lie and say these individuals such as the ones above are the minority.

Yup and while the club has to take some of the blame, I can't help but think of the parents and close family of these kids. The cesspool that is social media and the internet probably contributes as well.

As bad as this is, the club should make it absolutely clear that the parents of these children (because that's what they are) have ruined their kids careers by filling their head with this absolute shit from a young age, and now they're going to have to pop down to the job centre with them and show them how to fill in the dole form, because no doubt they're experts at that.

In real life.
There may be less lynchings, or segregation and other blatantly & outwardly displays of racism. But systemic, institutional and daily instances of racism haven't gone anywhere.

So no proof but your subjective opinion. Lets agree to disagree.

Feckin hell, imagine trying to argue that racism is getting getting better recently. But here's some 'proof' that the overwhelming majority of children of ethnic heritage experience racism.

If I caught my boys saying anything like that, they'd certainly know about it. Though it amazes me to think it could happen, as they couldn't possibly go to more multicultural school and have such an impressively wide range of friends from all over. Still, my eyes are always open to it, and they've been well educated but you never know.

I think this case is a product of the club as well as their home life. Someone would surely have seen/heard this by now from them. So yeah I agree, it's still obviously everywhere.

I don't use Instagram, Snapchat... but looking at one of the reply tweets, the two screens have different names on.

Is that because you can see full names or just first names OR is it that easy to alter/fake these images? (the two screenshots have different names).

Both I believe. It could absolutely be fake though, so I guess we should wait before writing these kids off...however it would hardly be a surprise if true.

You can edit names, some will have original names, other edited.

This is pretty much validation of the matter, there are 2 Dan's in the team and Dan Gifford confirms it is Dan Cadman who said this. I hope there are serious repercussions for these guys, this is sick.

Why are black people so hated, I honestly don't get it.

Izzy's reaction to it (one of two black players) is very weird though, he replies with crying faces. It could be that they are describing what people would be saying I guess, and he's laughing at it. Still don't really appreciate that language.

Could also be that he's a teen and doesnt know how to react to something like this (who does?), or the racism is so persistent that he's become quite numb of it or maybe even accepting, who knows?

Horrible little cnuts. For some reason it doesn’t surprise me with Portsmouth, that part of the country has to be one of the most middle England white shitholes around

No worries mate, I didn't for one second think you were defending them just asking valid questions.

But no, it's pretty clear what those messages mean going by what follows too. Sadly.

Even if I were ever inclined to thinking something like that, much less write it in a WhatsApp group, I’m glad to say I don’t have any mates who’d entertain that.

I don't believe it's just the parents, social media, media in general and even politicians are not helping either.

It's more than subjective opinion though, it's the lived experience of thousands
Lived experience/ subjective opinion , I see no difference. My lived experience says kids nowadays are less racist than the generations before them. I don't claim to have proof either way though.

It's absolutely not just the parents, that's an easy excuse and a cop out to societal problems.

Parenting plays the biggest role from an early age of course, but it's ridiculous how quickly outside forces take effect when they get to double digits. Not that bad parenting isn't a major issue also, because it is, but it's incredibly short sighted and ignorant to think that all their parents are massive scumbags on the dole.

I think ultimately it takes someone who's brave enough to call them out on their shit. Racists only feel brave enough to say things like this in environments that they deem to be safe and among other likeminded people. Unfortunately, more people end up feeling uncomfortable and say nothing, which only encourages the racists.
Until more & more people start calling out their family/friends/co-workers etc, these incidents will always happen.

None of those links back up your point which is Racism has been proven to be worse amongst the younger generation.
