I’m more surprised how many you are who don’t understand how he plays or what style he has.
You're a funny guy. Your reading comprehension fails you, and instead of admitting so and moving on peacefully, here you are trying to angle out an argument

anyway, I'm in celebratory mood. Varane's arrival means less Lindelof and everyone should be happy about that

Hoping we'll use the Pogba money on that. It'd be a net improvement to the team.

I'd love to see a quality DM sat behind Pogba. He's so talented that'd be a shame to see him succeed elsewhere without at least having a top no .6 behind him at United and seeing if it works. I'm confident in the right set up, he'd be amazing for us. But a no.6 is what we need and a three man midfield.

Do me a favor and watch this:

It is easy to overlook how many chances and goals Lindelof consistently gives away. So happy with the Varane signing.
Obviously Lindelof's the focus there, but considering he's 6 foot-odd I'll never get over how rubbish Wan-Bissaka is in the air.

Might have to buy the authentic home shirt - Varane 4 and CL badges. Defo worth the £125.

We need to brace ourselves for Real coming in January and signing Pogba on a pre contract.

There is no way anyone gets one over Real Madrid so we can celebrate getting him for 35m which is still a steal but Real will go one further and take Pogba for free.

People keep linking him to Real on here and yet no one in the media is at all. Perez doesn't want him. They won't waste Mbappe money on him. That's their soul focus.

I'm no expert but I've always thought Varane was more Rio-like.
He is. He has the same weaknesses in that he can often be a bit passive. However, both read the game phenomenally well and have excellent recovery pace to make up for errors and cover their partner. The reason I'm so hopeful for this deal is that in the same way, Vidic complemented Rio with his aggressive play and aerial game, the same can be applied to Maguire.

Perez is too smart for that. They’ll prioritize Camavinga and Mbappe.

I have not spoken definitively on what kind of player Varane is. Simply that he has qualities that could be attributed to both Rio or Vidic, and this was in the context of someone saying he’d be our new Rio and Maguire our new Vidic. Now if you’re saying that along with your poor reading comprehension you can’t contextualise things then so be it.

My words were that Maguire is closer to Ferdinand than to Vidic in playstyle. That’s point one. Point two being that out of Maguire and Varane, Varane is closer to Vidic. Not that Varane plays or is like Vidic. Pretty easy to understand, but alas

Unlikely he's that tall, online heights are notoriously unreliable.

Google has Phil Jones at 5ft 11 and Shaw at 6ft 1 despite Jones towering over Shaw whenever they're stood next to each other.

IDK if I'd call Maguire aggressive.

Communicado official coming later today apparently
At that point we'd surely put out a 'deal agreed' update as we did with Sancho, rather than wait a few days for the official signing announcement?

He’s aggressive in the sense that he’s a proactive physical defender. He’s not a nasty cnut like Mings but he’s definitely defends aggressively

My guess would be that they will do it at around the same time.

Not only that, for someone who has an extremely good judge of distance and timing for tackling, how that doesn't translate to heading?

What will you do if he signs in 2 weeks? Will you sing Woodward's praises or actuellement like a hypocrite and still demean him?
If he was the one that was doing it maybe. But it's been Murtough handling these matters as our Director of Football. That's where the praises should be going.
Woodwards on his way out and that's the best thing he will have achieved footballing wise, for our club.

He's a front food defender no doubt about that. He is dominant aerially as we all know but he also regularly tries to intercept or step onto the CF/ST before or as they receive the ball. One of the reasons he gives away fouls is his aggressive style where if he gets turned he has little choice but to bring them down. Not sure what your definition of aggressive is unless you want reckless like Bailly.

Someone like Ramos or Vidic. Maguire is a bit tame for me.

Hmm, makes sense. He's somewhere in the middle in the spectrum of aggressiveness, not as little as Lindelof, not as pro-active as Vidic.

Tbf if you are waiting for Vidic levels of aggressiveness then you'll be waiting forever. It's a shame as I loved Vidic but they don't make them like that anymore. Magure is as aggressive as most modern CBs around.

Varane really isn't aggressive at all, he's quite passive. Nothing like Vidic. See this is what happens when people get giddy over a transfer and end up creating a version of a player that has never and will never exist.

If people think Maguire is a bit tame uh oh they're in for a bit of a shock. He's far more "aggressive" (not really the right word) than Varane.

What Varane will do is compliment Maguire a hell of a lot better than the scraps we currently have doing that job.

Varane will no doubt be given a massive headache if ever has to share a pitch with Lindelof though. At least Bailly is aggressive in a mad way, and will get stuck in.

Quiet day today. Hopefully an announcement soon.

What's going to be the muppet thread in August then? I feel like Saul is good enough to start a muppet thread if we get some strong links.

They won't even take him on a free. The wages he would demand would even put them off. There is PSG and of course, Juventus always lurking around.
