It's hilarious how easily people just point to France form to justify his credentials. He's a form player, there are other reasons he works well for France. The obvious one being complimentary players but another big factor is a tournament is what, 7-9 games long.

He can turn up for that long in a go. His issue has always been the patchy form beyond that.
International tournaments are weird to measure a player performance as a whole. Pogba and Kante work there mainly because it is less intensity and teams don't play like how clubs do.

I really doubt Pogba + Kante in club competition will look as good. As you and many said, he plays good when he has the mood on and is given a bit of space.

Speaking of it, I don't mind giving him a new contract as long as we don't have to pay his fat agent 20 m and 400k base wage or whatever to him.

Is Pogba actually the 6th best paid player in world football? He’s not even our highest earner and the way Barcelona spend on wages I doubt he’d make their top 5…
I would imagine Neymar, Cristiano, Messi, Griezmann, Coutinho, de Gea, would all earn more. Maybe Suarez, Mbappe, de Bruyne too. But he's likely in the top 10.

Another big reason is the runs the attackers make. Griezzman, Mbappe, Giroud/Benzema all constantly make runs, which plays into one of Pogba's key strengths of playing super accurate long balls. Especially when asked to play as a deep midfielder, it means he can get rid of the ball quickly rather than try and dribble the midfielders like he does at United.

For us for a long time there's been very little movement, it's very static. I was watching some of Pogba's long balls and it's often for United Rashford making the run in behind, the rest of the team is just static. It's why against City he often looks better, because the attackers get space, and against west Ham he looks crap, because they defend with 2 banks of four.

The link-up with Mbappe alone should be a big reason why Pogba would want to go to PSG. In the match against Switzerland Pogba laid out 3-5 very good chances on a plate for Mbappe, who fluffed his lines but the link-up is there. Add in Neymar and another attacker and it could work out very well for them. I think 50m euros is seriously undervaluing what he could bring to that PSG team.

I think it's abundantly clear you scarcely saw him at the Euros.

Let's pivot then. Who is going to come in and put in better performances, bearing in mind your criticism of him is weighted by his salary. How much would that player demand in wages, and how much would they cost to sign.
I mean it depends on what performances you judge him off? When he was at Juve? Barely anyone. The last 2 seasons with us? Lots.. Tielemans, Mount (Unsure if he could play slightly deeper but I don't see why not as it's where he started), Verrati, heck Neves does as decent job offensivly as a DM than Pogba has recently. That's just off my head without me going scouting online.

I can't imagine with the exception of Verrati that we'd have to break 200k per week for any of them.

£45-50m from Pogba would pay a good chunk of the transfer fee for most. All of them are the same age or younger.

350k over 4 years would be £72.8m
200k over 4 years would be £41.6m

So that's hypothetically a £30m wage saving which could be used if the transfer fee needs a top up. And we get rid of the circus.

Bale? Hazard? Madrid don’t pay their players peanuts. Lewandowski? Alaba is on 400k a week.
Yeah, forgot those. Easy to forget Bale, but definitely him, don't know what Hazard is on, but likely more than Pogba. Would be surprised if Bayern are paying anyone more than Pogba is earning, but who knows. Alaba probably. At this rate, he's probably in the top 15. Wonder if Ramos is getting paid more also at PSG.

Could be Juve, but let's base it off the Pogba of last season, or the Pogba that was the only player outside of the top 2 to get in the team of the year.

Three of those 4 players would not be an improvement on Pogba, and the other one is perennially injured. None of them have the marketability he has either. Two of those 3 remaining players would cost at least £80m, the other is apparently available for £35m, though not a single reliable source has echoed this. If you're going to base this off value for money, then you're not making a very compelling argument.

The ideal this summer is keep Pogba , sell Matic and Lingard and get a DM

Fab is suggesting it's a possibility which is good

I don't disagree that our attackers need to work a bit harder.

But, again, this is international competition. Less energy, less pressing, less intensity that gives a bit more time and space for players in general to pass into or run into. If given spaces and time, even James would look like a world beater.

I'm all for people being honest though. Was Pogba our worst player last season? Not even close. Was he our best? Again not close. He's was bang in the middle which in my book is not excellent.

He seems to get better and better with some of our fans the more he doesn't play.

Bruno, Shaw, Rashford Maguire, Cavani were all better than Pogba for me.
Nah I'd have him tied for 4th with Cavani and Maguire. Bruno, Rashford and Shaw were more important for us last season and better. The latter 3 were all around the same level.

this could destabilise our season a little bit

I also think the De Gea/Henderson situation could do the same, as it will be a constant pressure from the media on each keeper with every mistake

I hate to be one of those "it'd never happen in my day" people but seriously, Fergie would 100% feck him off this summer and make sure everyone in the group is 100% focused on United, not their contract or how much their fat agent gets paid

His not going to PSG. Full stop. In 2018 he even stated his mother is Marseille fan and PSG wasn't really an option which lead to this banner been put up by PSG fans. 3 years in football is a long time, sure, but things like this don't just magically disappear.

I fully expect Pogba to be with us for this season. Only question will be whether he runs down his contract or renews it.

With that, I'd much prefer he renews, but I suspect he knows that will further hamper any possibility of a transfer elsewhere. Worst case, Real get him on a free next year.
Best case, he sees out the start of the season, it goes well and he renews and finally delivers to the potential he was expected to bring when he came back. Fantasy, but hey, everyone else is smoking stuff, may as well join in.

Yes. December onwards only Luke Shaw was more consistent than Pogba. Cavani had some good heights though.

Did you watch any games?
watched pretty much every game for the last 15 years....Shaw was head and shoulders the best player.

Using the word consistent in a sentence with Pogba is somewhat criminal too consistency. Yes, he was consistently inconsistent which is why it's all the more important to sell him this summer.

Do you have a penchant for typing a lot but not saying much or something? I said Shaw was the best player for us in the initial post you quoted

I disagree with everything else you’ve said

The Euros references are exhausting. United aren’t in the Euros, we’re not France. France also didn’t play well and Pogba was a key part of the midfield that blew it against Switzerland.

Let’s analyze his performances for United. Over 5 seasons it’s not been good enough.

It's an insult to Scholes really, they're not in the same class. Compare Scholes last proper season when he was at the end to Pogba last season. His stats are very competitive to Pogba's with 70% of the games. Everyone agreed Scholes was coming to the end and not what he was that season,

Pogba is ahead in quite a few but when you take into account the difference in the amount of games, an old, fading Scholes was better on a per match basis in loads of things from successful tackles, pass completion, more passes, more big chances created per game, more through balls and dispossessed far less.

https://www.premierleague.com/stats/player-comparison
Never compared scholes and Pogba. Sorry my post came across that way but I was only saying Scholes didn't score or assist more. There is no comparison between the two and I would probably prefer Scholes back of retirement over pogba

I’d be willing to bet if he stays and goes on a free Real still won’t touch him. Real and Barca were throwing money around on absolute dross and they never even made half a decent offer for Pogba from what we know. He’s just not as universally rated as some of you seem to think. All his constant angling for a move, the injuries and not getting his head down and working at rounding out his game has made him a luxury asset that’s too expensive for 99% of clubs relative to his actual performances and output. Crazy but true. PSG will either take him this summer or PSG and Juve will duke it out for him on a free for 350k a week tops. The kicker is the 20 million signing on fee or whatever they give them for that.

You're the guy who in the Euros thread was saying that the passes Pogba was making were simple passes when he was making some great through balls. You clearly have an agenda against Pogba regardless of how well he plays.

You made pretty much the same post yesterday and it's just not true. Zidane openly wanted Pogba for a long time and made numerous public comments, it just wasn't economically viable for them. They went for Hazard for like 130m instead. They've had a pretty stacked midfield for the last 7 or so years where players like Isco and Odegaard barely got any playing time, they're not going to be offering the £80m required for us to sell Pogba. Hardly a stick to beat him with.

The proper premium prices over the last 5 years overwhelmingly tend to go for the attackers, particularly wide forwards. It's what Real are still in the market for with Mbappe.

I think PSG is a particularly good fit for Pogba, he links up excellently with Mbappe for the French team and with Neymar in there too he'll be able to rack up assists. He excells when there's movement in front of him and he'll get that at PSG.

I'm not going to do this for Verratti because of the different league and Neves had a bigger dip in form than I realised last season so fair enough on him but:

Tielemans (4 years younger)
Tielemans makes more successful tackles per game.
Pogba makes more clearences.
Tielemans makes more forward passes per game.
Pogba wins more aerial battles
Tielemans makes more crosses and through balls per game
Pogba creates more big chances
Tielemans is dispossed less
Pogba slightly edges successful pases
Tielemans slightly edges goals per game
Pogba slightly edges assists per game

Mount (6 years younger)
Successful tackles per game is pretty much even.
Pogba makes more clearences
Both make a similar amount of forward passes, possibly Pogba slightly edging it (I'm doing mental maths)
Pogba wins more aerial battles
Mount makes more crosses, Pogba makes more through balls per game
Mount makes more big chances
Mount is dispossed less
Mount makes more successful passes
Mount has a higher goals per game.
Assists they're pretty much equal per game.

I wasn't even going to bother doing Mount until after I did so I've not bodged this to make them look better. That's 2 CM's in the league, both quite considerably younger with room to improve (and in Tielemans case he's not exactly surrounded by exceptional talent) who pretty much hold their own against Pogba. I'd spit my drink out laughing if Chelsea or Everton put either on £350k+ a week.

I'm not going to go into other leagues where I've not seen enough of them, but inevitably there is the PL premium. If there is really no one out there for £80m and £200k per week who couldn't replicate or excede what we've seen from Pogba over the last 2 years, then football is in a sorry state.

Pogba isn't a country. Pogba isn't France. Let's analyze what he did and not judge him on the performance of 10 other players. Besides, it was a detractor that brought this up to criticize him with .

Neves was just the only realistic option you've named and you've already given up on him.

Just looking at those Mount comparisons and it looks a bit strange. Touches? Interceptions? Ball recoveries? Pass attempts? Long pass attempts? I don't want to get into this comparative stuff because it's pointless, but come on.

I would do too, seeing as Tielemans doesn't play for Everton. It doesn't matter what they pay, it's what we would have to pay to replace Pogba with a new player. It's the transfer fee we'd have to pay. The options you are suggesting here are entirely unrealistic. If you're determined to make this a financial matter, then you need to come up with some better alternatives.

If PSG wont give the £45 mill. we are pricing him at he wont make any decision until next year.

Dean Jones not the most reliable source but this seems quite logical from Pogba's point of view, he has no rush to decide anything.

Worst possible outcome for us though. Can see us going for Neves this window if this is what happens, since he seems to be the cheapest option (probably on par with Camavinga, but he seems to be more likely to go to Spain)

THREE MONTHS you stayed out of that thread. If Pogba did a rough job of tying his shoelaces you'd be all over him. Imagine what he has to be doing to get that kind of silence from you. You must've been miserable.
I'm not the problem with Pogba. It's all you fanboys who don't speak the truth. I tell it how it is. He's a talented player who has underperformed for us.

He didn't have a great season last year. You can say it as many times as you like it still won't be true. He didn't get in the reckoning for club player of the year or PL team of the year. He wasn't even close.

I'm with most of the pundits on this one. He's just not delivered for us despite his ability. It's sadly you who can't accept this fact.

Oh I'm a fanboy now, am I? You posted 167 times in last year's players performance thread. I posted 11. And I'm the one who's obsessive? Astonishing that you stopped 'telling it how it is' when Pogba was playing so well.

Because he got a serious injury. And does that mean everyone else who didn't make team of the year was crap as well? Come on. Your tagline says it all!

He won't sign a new contract, utter madness to not get rid. He's been flirting with other teams for 2 years and his agents comments the night before Leipzig the final straw. If he stays it's a distraction and will be like a dark cloud hanging over us, give minutes to players who want to here or may have a future, namely VdB. Sign a DM with the money.

I’d like to see him grow into a controlling midfield role, but don’t know if he has that in him.

Every time people bring up Pogba in the Euros, I just get reminded back to this tweet following the Switzerland game:

It really sums up the problem with Paul the player at United, can be great going forward, but then inevitably lets the team down by being a complete defensive liability in central midfield.
