… which shows it’s daft to take football chants seriously…
Public speech is public speech. Doesn't matter if it's a bunch of football fans singing something in a stadium which can be heard on national and global TV or a political speech addressing a nation. What is appropriate to be used publicly applies equally to all forms of it. Football chants don't get some kind of special protection from it.

The R word was once politically correct. But once on the euphemism treadmill, it came to be used exclusively as a slur and has since fallen out of common usage.

In much the same way, 'thick' may not have traditionally been considered a slur. But it is being used to insult those with learning disabilities now that other words are considered beyond the pale. That's true whether you want to acknowledge it or not.
No. You're not even clutching at straws here, you're touching thin air. Anyway, I wont reply to this any longer, I only have 5 daily posts. Just know that however you try to bend that the word thick is a slur for people with disabilities, my stance is youre wrong. Next youll tell me daft is a slur for mentally disabled individuals, which im sure you probably think so!

You would have had a better shot at possibly making a point if you said “thick” is a slur towards beautiful women (which you would have still been wrong)

Is that more a cultural thing than racial?
If I'm honest I probably don't know the difference . I know he was never offended by it though. Which was weird considering we got told off for chanting that lukaku had a big dick.

There are kids with learning disabilities being bullied on school playgrounds right now with the word 'thick' being thrown at them as insult. Try telling them that it's not a slur.

And thick for women can be considered a slur as well: https://www.besthealthmag.ca/article/what-does-thick-mean/

Preston fans call Blackpool fans the lashers, in the belief that the only form of employment in that town is lashing the donkeys up and down the beach in summer.

A blog talking about a Rihanna tweet thats assuming what shes meaning with a single emoji, and then the article quoting buzzfeed! Deary me, thats some extreme clutching at straws to the absolute next level!!! This is a BLOG, and in itself is saying thick is a compliment! Did you even read the blog?? Its agreeing the word thick is essentially charming….

FYI: Youve entered my ignore list with this, youre trying to subtly create a connection between rent boy and thick being in the same category type slurs. It isnt. Have a great day.

And also that some women find it objectifying/offensive.

The Park song was and is great. Why are some so miserable over a fecking chant?

Imagine PC panel debating on the quality, historical and cultural context and other delicacies of the few liners sung at grounds..

We gonna end up with nursery songs I swear, maybe with the name of the club put in somewhere to make it individual.

'This old man, he played seven, he played nick nack by ths oven, with a nick nack paddy wack give a dog a bone, this old man came United' nice ring to it.

Been cheering on some fascist attacks on LGBT+ people lately, or have you gotten a new hobby?

Ah yes, that famous black and white line where homophobic, racist and xenophobic chanting can only be replaced by nursery rhymes.
It’s almost as if there’s a grey area where witty and amusing chants can still be sung yet just remove the bigotry. Or is too much for you too grasp?

idk if it's a fascist attack supporting song, I guess it is definitely offensive though. its pretty good but i wouldn't miss it if they stopped singing the park song.
Not talking about the song, Tomus is a fan of Polish fascists bashing in heads. This being a thread about homophobia I think it fits that he's the sort of guy whining about PC gone mad.

Now now, those gays deserved it. They were openly being gay or bringing up their issues where Good and Decent People don't like that.

Suggestions that rent boy chants are about Abramovich or female prostitutes are nonsense.

Chelsea have been called the rent boys for decades. The reason is that Chelsea are in the West End of London, and Piccadilly/Soho was renowned as the destination of choice for gay men to find each other, and to find young male sex workers, the rent boys. I can understand younger people or those not from England not knowing that but now you do you will find references everywhere, from the radio comedy Round the Horn of the 60s (Julian and Sandy) to the Pogues song ' The Old Main Drag'. Check out the lyrics on that one.

'Rent boys' is not about Abramovich, there is no straight context, it is about sex workers that cater for gay men and it is most definitely homophobic.
Thanks for this, I am someone who needed education on the meaning of this song and will not sing this again.

The best chant of all time will always be

Kick it in the goal,
Kick it in the goal,
Their goal not our goal,

And no racism, Homophobia, ableism or any kind of ism in it. Well maybe hilariousism, but that's not a word.

Well anyone browsing the Redcafe can see that being a bigot and discriminating against certain groups of people is a big part of Tomuś' life and identity, so the lines are probably quite blurred to him.

Geeez you're obsessed pal. Get some life.

Imagine how much easier it would be for Polish LGBT+ people to life a live a fulfilling life without the far right physically attacking them, and without people like you encouraging those attacks.

One can dream. Plenty of them need to seek some help, both physical and mental, because of the violence and discrimination they face. I know you care very deeply about both violence and discrimination against Christian people (what was it, thousands beheading every day?), so you should be able to relate to the principle even though you don't give a shit about gay people.

Go on about PC gone mad instead, though it's interesting that you're introducing the word obsession.

in the grand scheme of things the Park song isn't that bad

I know quite a few Korean people though and they hate this stereotype - it really offends them. Not so much the eating the dog part, but the animal cruelty involved in that tradition (beating the dogs when alive to tenderise the meat or whatever it is)

so personally I'd rather not partake in singing a song which I know pisses off a group of people, some of which are my friends

because it's... just a fecking song, and the value it adds to any of our lives is so minimal the idea we wouldn't stop doing it when it hurts others is beyond absurd

I highly doubt people singing this song actually think all Koreans terrorize dogs but ok.

And it is important that it's just a stadium rhyme chant. Let alone the fact that the song literally points to ONE korean allegedly eating a dog. Big difference between that and running a flag around Manchester with a big 'all koreans eat dogs' inscirption.

As long a Park himself is not affected by that, I don't see the problem. We’re only having this discussion because a few Liverpool supporters sang 'rent boys' at a Chelsea player, which United fans have been doing over the years no problem.

just refer back to my last sentence, it’s all I have to say on the matter really

doesn’t bother me that much that others sing it, but I dont

Yes, I sleep and then I wake up. Maybe that's weird, I haven't asked around.

I'm "on it" because you're a guy cheering on fascist attacks on innocent people because of their sexuality and gender identity, not because you like a racist song.

You're weird fella. You go around redcafe tracing me to repeatedly bring up what I said a month ago eventhough we're talking about a chant that's not even connected to the topic you keep banging.

All that while I didn't even cheer 'fascist' attacks on people 'because of their sexuality and gender identity'.

Do you even know the definitions of the words you use?
