Guys, every reputable source is saying he's joining City. One Rio tweet doesn't change that.
I've not really been fussed about Ronaldo going to City, to be fair, having a 36 year old player on huge wages, even if it is Ronaldo, isn't a great idea.

Still, even reputable sources get things wrong all the time. I remember when a lot of reputable sources had us nailed on to get Thiago and Hazard, and look what happened there. Things can change in an instant in football, and maybe the Glazers see us getting Ronaldo as an easy pass into the supporters good books, as he's clearly idolised here still.

As i say though, personally, myself, i don't really care either way and would rather us avoid him and sign a midfielder this window

I'm aware Mendes has agree terms with Juve, but do you all remember what he did to Falcao in 2014?

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/aug/31/manchester-city-offered-radamel-falcao-monaco

It was almost the same situation with Cristiano, Sure City is the front runner to sign him, but he could had offered Ronie to another clubs too.
It could be us, PSG, and Madrid, interesting to find out who will pull the trigger on the last minute.
Once the fee with Juve was agreed, Mendes will have messaged any club that showed slight interest in the top leagues. Guaranteed United have been offered him multiple times.

I honestly think no one wants him - even City seem a bit desperate as he’s the only option after Kane fell through - because of his age and salary.

I'm not personally blaming Ronaldo for Juventus not winning the league last year, but La Liga was a 3 horse race with some strong Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid sides whilst Ronaldo was there. It's not comparable.
Yes and he also conveniently ignored that Juve won the title 7 times of the bounce. Barcelona were the main team in la liga but it was usually close and they didn't win an absurd number of titles in the row - they had proper rivals.

For one year up front before we get Haaland? Why ever not?
Ronaldo isn't going to sign a one year deal. Haaland will not happen if Ronaldo does. Would definitely prefer the Norwegian.

Ignore betting odds on transfer markets. No liquidity at all, or liabilities taken from the bookie themselves.

I cant really blame him if he joins them. Juve want him gone, nobody else wants him. Let the man play. He’s not great now anyway.

Exactly and that's the point. When Ronaldo inevitably signs for City, he'll just say his tweet wasn't about denying the move. He's just being an attention seeking prick, at a time he knows that united fans will cling on to any hope.
Does he have form for that though?

United now oddly tweeting an ode to Rio

When Chelsea beat Villareal on pens, De Gea started trending and the United Twitter posted a random De Gea tweet very late at night. I suspect it's the same situation here, what ever algroritm they used saw Rio was trending and automatically posted a preloaded tweet relating to Rio

Bit of a shame he won't stay at Juve and see how Allegri does. Juve should perform better but I can understand Ronaldo wanting a change and boost his chances of a CL by going to the losing finalists.

I'm ok with him popping up at Eastlands now. We had a good run with him long ago and this is just another part of the oil club circus in today's game like with Messi at PSG, if he wants to join them all we can do is laugh and it's long time we as a fanbase and club let Ronaldo go, it's over 10 years. We should jeer and laugh at him in a City shirt instead of boo at the derby, even if he scores just keep jeering and laughing . :)

He cares about his own legacy of numbers which is fair. he claims stats chase him but we know what he's saying really, he chases them and wants to keep it going for as long as possible and the possible destinations are very limited, City are pretty much the last turkey in the shop and want the sportwashing coup.

Would it lower my opinion of Ronaldo if he were to join City? Naturally.
Would I want him to sign for us? Not at this point of his career, I'd prefer Haaland.
Would I want us to sign Ronaldo just to stop City getting him? Eh, no, again I'd prefer that money spent elsewhere.
Would Ronaldo have joined us over City if we were seriously in for him? I think so, going by my gut feeling on the guy.
Would we have been seriously in for him? I don't think so. I think there have been so many rumours made about him coming back here over the years and I'm confident Mendes has been a big part of that, trying to drum up interest. I think Ole is building for the future, not the past.
Would I blame Ronaldo for joining City in that case? No.
Would it still lower my opinion of him? Yeah, but that doesn't mean I think it's unreasonable. It's a stain, and it doesn't change what he did for us at the time. I don't think he'll fit with City, honestly. I think they'd prefer Kane any day of the week.

There's half a murmur that United could be interested - Utd's name being used to make City pay up. Not hard to figure out.
Do you really think City would pay up if United were interested? City could pay up whenever they wanted, the fact they haven't as of yet tells me they're not 100% sure they actually want him. They seem very reluctant to pay, even when it's pretty much pocket money to them

From a purely footballing POV, would Ronaldo even suit us right now? Like if the alternative wasn't him going to City, would we really want him?

This is going to be something like Ronaldos going to PSG or signed a new deal with Juve and this whole Rio thing was done to troll City fans isnt it?

I hope we're not being bullied by City into pay over the odds for a 36 yr old Ronaldo.

Have some balls, Matt Judge. Negotiate like the tough bastard you are.
