Personally, I don't see the funny side. Completely unprofessional. That's someone's career.

Eintracht Frankfurt deny claims they gave Lazio the wrong email address when negotiating about Filip Kostic. Instead, Lazio forgot the letter "K“ in the address when they emailed their offer.
How would they know?

I'm surprised how eager people are to believe this. Why would Frankfurt do such a thing? It's not like they could have expected to fool Kostic for more than a few days and it would make them look really unprofessional to the whole world, especially Kostic's agents, who have one of the bigger agencies and have done a lot of business with Frankfurt over the past couple of years.

I think it's more likely that Di Marzio is reporting rubbish (like he often does these days) or that this is only half the story at best.
If this is half the story, I would love to read the other half

I mean, if they can't get the email, don't they have many hours to do zoom calls, Google meet, whatsapp, etc?

If that all failed, why not do the old mafia way with a briefcase?

I don't believe this shite.

If I was doing a multi million euro transaction with a deadline I would be fired if the only excuse I had was they sent me the wrong email address. I would send the email. Wait an hour then resend asking if they got it. Wait. No response? Id ring. Hi Frankfurt Its Bob in Lazio finance. Did you get my emails? In the meantime I would be on the phone to the agent, my recruitment team - hey Im not getting any response from Frankfurt. Id do all sorts. Its how business is handled when multi million transactions are in play.
Well yeah, but I replied to your comment aboute emails receiving a response quicky, which in my working experiene is almost never the case. If its deadline day, of course you start making phonecalls when the due time is closing, everyone gets that, but before that, replies are either: Immediate because I happened to be at my computer then, or whenever I get back to you.

I appreciate the advice on how big transations are handled.

I (and my company) signed a seasonal (Q1 2022) delivery order from one particular brand of outdoor apparel for 35 million NOK which roughly translates to £2,9 million GBP at the end of May. As usual I have a habit of delaying everything until deadline day. We had minimal contact up until the day besides some pleasantries and promises of dinners, then on the day everyone and their mother are very dilligent with asking questions and making sure everything runs on time. It's only a hurry, when it's a hurry.

Lazio still haven't learnt their lesson after the Hushpuppi (Ramon Abbas) scam.

"In 2018, it was reported that the Italian football club Lazio have reportedly been duped by online scammers and paid the final installment of defender Stefan de Vrij’s transfer fee to fraudsters rather than Dutch club Feyenoord.

According to Italian newspaper Il Tempo, the Serie A club were tricked into sending £1.75 million to the wrong bank account in Holland by hackers with knowledge of the deal.

The scam was executed through an email, when Lazio received purporting to be from Feyenoord, including bank details, asking for payment."

At least Woody could use the 'fax machine was broken' excuse and not really get found out. Frankfurt can't really say 'sorry t'internet was broke ' and get away with it.

Here's Frankfurt's side: they reportedly told spox that Lazio forgot the letter "K" when trying do address the email and that Lazio have admitted as much in writing.

If it is a non-existent email addy then they would have got a bounce back notification, right? Also, with the deadline so close they didn't follow-up with a phone call to see what was going on? Doesn't add up for me.

Emails to wrong address bounce back

2. Frankfurt came back saying

When Lazio originally emailed their offer last week, it was sent to eintrachtfranfurt.de instead of eintrachtfrankfurt.de

However, the letter 'K' in question does not exist in the Italian alphabet, and Lazio sent another mail explaining that they were having problems drawing up the correct offer only for the transfer window to close before a compromise could be reached amid reports the Serie A side were not ready to meet the asking price for Kostic.
Didn't notice there is no K in Italian till now

Next window Madrid bid for Pogba, Woodward send them transfers@manchestercity.com to forward the offer.

It's funny how most posters will likely keep laughing at Frankfurt and ignore the tweet clarifying the situation. If anyone was wondering how fake news works - that's it. Just be there first; a lot of people will never check back.

That K but is nonsense. The letter K doesn't occur in etymologically Italian words, but they do have it in loanwords and names. Plus it will feature in its regular spot in Italian keyboards. Since language is more interesting than anything, here's the Wikipedia entry that I know everyone is aching to read:
The letters J (I lunga 'long I'), K (cappa), W (V doppia or doppia V 'double V'), X (ics) and Y (ipsilon or I greca 'Greek I') are used only in loanwords, proper names and archaisms, with few exceptions.[citation needed]

(...)

The letter ⟨k⟩ is not in the standard alphabet and exists only in unassimilated loanwords, although it is often used informally among young people as a replacement for ⟨ch⟩, paralleling the use of ⟨k⟩ in English (for example, ke instead of che).
Yes I'm fun at parties. Everybody loves a good factoid.

If it seems too ridiculous to be true... then let's run with it, cause it's hilarious and I want to believe this!

You’ve got to give props for this level of shadiness.

I wish you could do this in Football Manager

Laughing at Frankfurt as the crazies in this. I agree that the situation as a whole is funny - just like the fax machine story of De Gea. (No matter what's true and who was to blame for what happened.)

So Di Marzio (who is very good with Italian clubs) reported Frankfurt gave wrong email, Frankfurt said they sent mail to wrong email or they missed some letter.

Did Lazio say anything after that? If they said and agreed that they missed a letter in email then fair enough, if not Why should we believe Frankfurt story when they have lot to lose and have all the reasons to twist the story? For all we know, it might be a cover up story.

Again if Lazio acknowledges the whole thing then fair enough.

Lots of things may have happened, but in general, the idea that a club would give out a wrong e-mail address on purpose to try and stall the process sounds ridiculous - if only because it's unlikely to work. (You'd get an error message as the sender, you can just call, you can contact the agent, etc.) Also, how would they give the wrong address? They'd have to have had a working way of communicating already to do that.

Lots of things may go wrong by accident of course; but to my mind, people jump on the original story because it's funny, not because it makes sense.

(Also, Frankfurt claiming Lazio confirmed their error in writing sounds pretty strong to me. There is no way Lazio would just let that stand uncontested, if only not to look stupid to their own fans.)

(I'm wondering why I care. Guess I don't like how guillable people can be. Of course, they'll prove next that Frankfurt did turn out to be evil dummies, and I'll look stupid. :) )
