And all those saying well 'its in the rules stop sobbing' - bet they love it when we're down to a weaker opponent and they start feigning injury in the 55th minute. They applaud the cheater as simply leveraging the flawed rules of the game.

There is value in sport to in sportsmanship. For the spectator but also the athletes themselves. You can push the limits of it for sure and still win, but the manner in which you do so is what differentiates legends from others, imo.
Tbf, the best player in men’s tennis at the moment and possibly the GOAT regularly took advantage of those rules, especially in his younger years, so I’m not sure it matters. It’s just a cutthroat business.

I seethed about the USO semi when Djokovic came back from 2 sets down with a MTO every 2 games or so for years, but eventually even Fed started doing it as well, so you just have to accept it as part of the game. Being honest doesn’t pay the bills.

2 separate points here.

1. Tsisipas was bending the rules to his advantage. It's cnuty though allowed but certainly shouldn't be praised or encouraged whether its him, djokovic or whoever.

2. Murray did let it affect him and he admits this himself though he does differentiate between the mental effects (avoidable) and the physical effects(non-avoidable).

I do like when absolute nobodies call an Olympic champion and multi time grand slam winner “mentally weak”.

....
A very odd take.
A statetement is true or not - regardless of the person who makes it.

Andy Murray is a former Olympic champion and a former top player, who is currently nowhere near Tsitsipas' Level.
He made it hard for Stefanos. He should be happy with that.

Wait a second: Murray has three grand slams to his name and Tsitsipas has zero. Murray's reached World number one. What's Tsitsipas done?

If Murray is 'nowhere near' Tsitsipas's level, what's he doing taking the guy to five sets?

No player is ever happy with losing a game when they had a legitimate chance to pull off a shock, especially when the other guy starts horsing around to sneak an advantage.

I wasn’t commenting on someone’s ability, I was commenting on someone calling Murray “mentally weak” which is simply hilarious.

Murray is a 34year old two time gold medalist, 3 time slam winner with a metal hip and is still taking the world Number 3 to 5 sets.

So, if you were a tennis coach, you would tell your protégé to freak out and get upset like a child when the opponent takes a longer toilet break to break his rhythm?

It was mentally weak, because Murray reacted in a way, Tsitsipas could only hope for.

Wow Botic van de Zandschulp (ridiculous name) made it to the 3rd round. Seems like a decade ago a Dutch player won 2 matches in a slam.

Raducanu on the march at a grand slam again. I know it's majorly early days in her career, but how good do people reckon she could become?

She might be able to win a slam or two if she keeps improving. Not in the next couple of years though.

This Danish girl Tauson gave Barty a tough second set, wasn't enough in the end though.

Just saw if Raducanu wins her next match it's Barty in the 4th round. That should be fun but can't see Barty losing.

Alcatraz breaks Tsisipas in the first game I smell an upset. After Alcaraz wins the first set, right on queue Tsisipas takes a medical timeout.

Crowd booing Tsitsipas as he goes off for a bathroom break after losing the 3rd set to go 2-1 down. Let's see how long this break is...

3.5 minutes, Tsitsipas learning his lesson and speeding it up. I don't think it will do him any good if the crowd are constantly on his back.

Alcaraz take it in a 5th set tie break. Brilliant match.

Tsistsipas will regret that 3rd set where he had set points serving at 5-2 and lost it in a tie break.

What a match! Alcaraz played amazing. His groundstrokes are incredible.

I'm glad Tittypass lost.

Amazing day at the US Open. Shittypass and Osaka big upsets, Daniil, Schwartzmann and FAA doing the business, some great day of tennis.

Tsisipas should have won that but what a player Alcaraz will become. Future grand slam winner for sure.
FAA beats RBA in a five set thriller and Rublev looking comfortable against Tiafoe

Looks like Rublev is on his way out now. I’m really surprised how this match went.

Yeah I only caught the first two sets so surprising to see he's down 5-0 in the fifth. Tiafoe is class though, both players just need to add consistency to their game and take the next step like medvedev and zverev.

Tsitsipas loses in an upset. And what's going on with Osaka?

The crowd seemed to turn on her at the end of the third set, and she didn't handle it well.

Osaka press conference - meltdown
Quite a sad watch. I think she's doing the right thing and taking a break from the sport as she's clearly going through somethings that is impacting her. Hope she gets whatever she needs and comes back when ready.

A part of me does feel that if it wasn't for the Olympics she may not have come back so soon, but it was an event she probably felt she couldn't miss.

Naomi Osaka has $20,000,000 prize money alone and literally no reason to carry on playing tennis if she's not enjoying it. I think the problem is that she has grown up around tennis and she can't picture life any differently.

She needs to speak to people who genuinely care about her and listen to them. A digital detox could help, just go back to basics, focus on winning games and the core principles that got her where she was.

It's funny because that match felt so flat. It was a five setter but it didn’t quite have the rallies nor the drama. It lacked zest, def not a patch on Alcaraz match. FAA is super athletic and covers so much ground but it felt like his shot accuracy is not there yet.

Genuinely surprised about the Rublev match.

Honestly it didn’t feel like that. Fernandes had legit her own fans in Arthur Ashe - lots of Canadian flags I could spot, and the crowd generally roots for the underdog, but Osaka had a pretty strong following. I didn’t feel like the crowd turned against her.

The sloppy play and smashing the racket routine didn’t help though!

Tsitsipas is such an idiot. Take away the bathroom controversies and gamesmanship and he’s one of the most marketable players on tour. Successful, elegant, great age and certainly on his way to many grand slam wins. His team needs to sit him down (no pun intended) and tell him to stop with the negative PR and stupidity. He’s leaving tens of millions of dollars on the table

Did you see her 4 part series on Netflix? The biggest mystery to me watching that was how such a person with a sleepy demeanor can be so competitive and fierce on the court? And maybe the answer is it was the drive to succeed financially all along and with that no longer being a concern after the reported $70,000,000 or so she’s made, the drive is gone.

Also she made the point that she’s a good follower but not a good leader i.e. she can chase the number 1 but once she’s there she doesn’t know how to handle it.

The drive from the likes of Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, Cristiano, etc who maintain the insatiable hunger after so much success and $$$ is so rare and to be admired I guess.

Yeah I watched it, personally didn't feel it was all that good but you're right it just further highlighted how her character off the court has always been a stark contrast to her personality off it.

Nishikori takes the first set against Djokovic. It feels like Djokovic's tiebreak record has been pretty mediocre for the past year or two, when it was impeccable not long ago.

Osaka needs a mentor who can get her to focus on her strengths.

I think she sees Serena as a role model but while Serena is certainly inspirational, Osaka has a totally different persona on and off court.

Taking months of is a great idea but it is important she uses that time to refashion her approach and get back in the zone where she's enjoying tennis.

The fifth set was actually quite entertaining with lots of drama, deuces and break points.

Shapo down 2 sets to Harris but up a break in the third. Harris about to serve for the match.

Ash Barty just lost in a third set tiebreaker to an unseeded American . Good news for the Raducanu stans.
