I would have much rathered we keep James for his non stop work rate and what he offers us tactically than Lingard on 5 times the money strolling around promoting his brand acting he’s a top player. Top bantzzzz
We were right not to turn down that kind of money for James

I completely forgot Mata actually still exists. I think Lingard will be ahead of him in picking order though. I also think he'll be ahead of VDB in number 10.

Not sure Ole will ever play Sancho as a number 10.
Well Solskjaer just blocked Donny leaving so he must plan to use him.

I'd agree about Sancho at no10. But Jesse is probably fighting it out with Mata to be 4th/5th choice at no10.

To be fair, I imagine West Ham offered £15m or less. Which, yes, is better than nothing. But given they paid just under £30m for fecking Kurt Zouma, we'd have been firmly confirming our reputation as pushover sellers if we'd let Jesse go for such a derisory fee. I think we were right to hold out for £20-25m. If we'd been signing him from them off the back of last season, instead of the other way around, he'd have been £40m.

Jesse is going for new contract
I hope we don’t make the mistake of giving him one. I’d rather lose him on a free than deal with him finding him a new club down the road and all the while him taking a spot on the team that could go to an academy player.

If there is one criticism we can lay on Ole, is him sticking with the same 11 players and running them into the ground. For 2 seasons on the run we have seen Bruno and Rashford running on empty.

We need to have faith in the rest of our squad and allow them to take up the slack. Fergie did it, and the likes of JS Park, Fletcher, O'Shea, Evans, Phil Neville, they all got games, they all stuck to their task to get us over the line. I would actually say that Lingard is a level above the likes of those fringe players we used to have. He pulled West Ham up the league and got himself into the England squad.

He can still do a job for us and give others a rest.

Lingard will get a new contract if you can find a bookie to take the bet stick the mortgage on it

Don't blame him. He'll be a free agent next summer. Can calmly pick the best offer for him, with the biggest wage and the biggest signing on fee.

This should be a lesson to the suits at United to stop this policy of hoarding players. There is no incentive for a player in the final year of his deal to play nice with the club, just so it can get a fee for him. If you want money you gotta move 2-3 years in advance of where Jesse is today.

Well I wasn’t wrong, good on Lingard for saying he wants playing time, not sure why he stayed though in that case. Pretty much a bench warmer, should have told United he wanted to go.

Probably wants a big signing on fee next year as opposed to the club getting a fee this year.

He stayed for the last year of that big contract at United and knows he can command similar as a free agent next summer, he’s basically just written this season off as he knows he’ll only play cup games at best at United but hopefully this’ll teach the club to stop offering long term high wage contracts to players that aren’t good enough just to “protect their value” when no one will come in for them with a fee on top of big wages.

Odd situation all round. We should have sold him in the summer, to get some money. He should have left, to get some football. Instead he'll lose a year of his career while we'll lose him on a free. Hard to see who wins there.

IF he did run his contract down then we’d better get used to it because it’s becoming a growing tactic by players

If we’d priced him at 15m I’m sure he wouldn’t be at United right now

Good to see our academy players holding the club ransom. Learning from the master Pogba I see.

Poor from all involved really. We shouldn't have priced him out, he really should have pushed to leave. Now we'll get nothing and he'll hardly play all season. No winners in this scenario.

Lingard can only dream of doing such an assist, yet our novice manager gave Lingard hundred more chances.
I dont want to say it but Lingard played very well
I can replace Lingard. Anyone can replace Lingard.
being coached by an assistant manager. Just leave you novice and take fecking Lingard with you.
Just feck off the club Ole, Have some dignity and resign, and take your fecking precious Lingard and periera with you.

Why should Lingard give a shit about the club when it has ''supporters'' like you ? Honestly I hate this forum sometimes.

It was widely reported this week that West Ham didn't bid because for whatever reason Lingard indicated to them that he didn't want to move there this summer.

Well then if that’s true he’s doing what others are increasingly doing, running down their contracts. United’s fault - should have signed a new contract or have been sold long ago

Lingard should wakeup every morning and pray 2 hours thanking god or whatever he believes in that he is playing for a club in the size and prestige of man united.

Sentimentality has no place in winning trophies. Its like people never knew what sir Alex did to mediocre players with weak mentality that can not handle the pressure at united. I really doubt you guys watched united before. "supporters" like you have no right to judge other supporters. Stick to the subject body.

I know players have the right to run down their contracts, but some players think that they can give something back to the club that gave the chance to develop into professional footballers by getting a fee when being sold. But I guess this is the new thing now and the club have to expect more like this situation.

The best thing Lingard will do to united is rejecting the new contract. Him accepting it means we will be stuck with a mediocre player for the remainder of the contract length. We couldnt get a fee from him. But now, I would be happy if he leaves on a free at the end of the season. Give him only carabao cup games, nothing more.

Serves the club right for pricing him out of a move.

Some of you lot love to complain about absolutely anything and everything. Even if he agreed to extended his contract, I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t hear the end of how he’s happy to warm the bench and rob the club on a weekly basis.

Let’s give the lads proper support instead of being toxic this early in to the season. Who knows, He might play an important role in us achieving something this season especially in the cup competitions. He’s capable of that imo.

Oh I'm not blaming Lingard mate, I've always thought players have the right to run their contracts down if they want. If that means they don't play much then that's their decision.

And yeah it does seem to be a growing trend in football.

I’m hoping he goes…. Good for him to get playing on by time. And I hope it’s on free as I assume we put a stupid number on him that others wouldn’t pay. Serves us right

Strange he chose to stay if this is the case. He should've gone in the summer if those were legitimate concerns.

Yes, Lingard must be sad collecting ½ millions pounds per month when a bunch of posters criticize him on a football forum that he never reads or know about.
