Would United have turned down a bid of £70-100m for Pogba this summer?

So I reckon there's no way United would have turned down a large bid for Pogba this summer with him having less than a year left on his deal. I posted this thought in a thread today and another poster thinks the idea is nonsense. To me the club just couldn't turn a bid like that down with Pogba looking like he probably won't renew his contract, almost no club could.

The reaction has me wondering am I alone in this thinking?

Could this be made into a poll?

Not a chance we would have turned down the bid as he is on last year of contract, (assuming he made it clear that he won't sign new contract)

Even if he hadn't made his intentions clear one way or another, I don't see how the club could have taken the risk with that sort of bid.

Pogba's a brilliant player but £100m for a 28 year old with less than a year left on his deal in a Covid market.

Of course we would have known his intentions in such a situation.

If the offer came in we would ask him/Raiola directly. "We'd like to keep you at the club, and hope we can agree on a new contract, but if we can't and you'd rather leave then we will accept the offer."

But that kind of offer wouldn't come anyway unless Pogba had told the other club he was willing to go to them. (Then it would be up to us if we wanted to give him a final new offer or not.)

If some club bidded 100m for Pogba then we would have sold him. Its that simple. The risk of him walking on free in few months time is far too big.

I feel partly responsible for this thread... Sorry I drove you to it, stevoc :)

I feel United would have only taken it if they had a like-for-like replacement lined up. Otherwise it would've made their midfield even less balanced than it already is.

What I was arguing against was the notion that United would have had no choice but to sell because of financial concerns. They've wasted a few hundred millions too many to make that claim.

I reckon we'd have even taken £50m at this point - bite their hands off for £100m!

Just compare Varane that we paid even less for

Just because United have wasted millions on players that didn't work out doesn't mean they could turn massive bids down. Especially for a player who could leave on a free.

I think so too if a bid had came in.

I reckon anything over £40 mill we would have taken. No one was going to pay anything for him, when its obvious hes off to Madrid next season. If PSG had have had an inkling he would go there, then they would have probably offered £30-£40 mill.

Is this a trick question?

United would have bitten the hand of any club that offered £70 million quid for a player who is free to talk to other clubs in less than 6 months.

No. This club is run by people who see United as a business so there isn't a chance they reject that kind of offer for a depreciating asset.

We’d definitely have sold him for £100mill. He’s in the last year of his contract

I think any business person worth his salt would take even 30-40mil for a dude who is refusing to sign and can walk free in less than what? 10 months? Careless otherwise

First of all there has been no official bid, so any claim is just fantasy. Secondly, I recall a clause that 12-14m will be payable to Pogba & Fat Man. So even if a bid of 50m is submitted, we will only pocket 38m. Then, I think we would have accepted a 50+bonus if there is an official bid. Anything less than 40m, then the Club will have to persuade Pogba &FM to forfeit their bonus - fat chance, or we end up with 28m. The Club might just think not worth it and would rather run down his contract.

No one is claiming there was a bid.

No we would have definitely sold him.We can’t afford to turn down that kind of money for a 28 year old who’s never really been at his best for the club...

If this windows has shown us anything it’s that the size of the bid doesn’t matter (mbappe, ronaldo) but if the player wants to go and the club can stomach it they’ll go.

I think if pogba reached an agreement elsewhere (non-PL) and started to agitate we’d let him go without much ado about price

Given that we have probably been open to listening to offers for Pogba for 2-3 seasons now (partly due to his own wish to leave), and this is the last season of his contract, we would have definitely accepted that high bid.

Maybe after that Leeds game there would have been a rethink but again after Ronaldo's purchase we would probably be open again to selling Pogba provided we can buy a replacement midfielder. But anyway that happened on the deadline day so its a moot question.

What club would be stupid enough to make a bid that big anyway

Would we feck. He doesn’t even fit into Ole’s vision (4-2-3-1) & he’s in the last year of his contract. We would’ve let him go for about 35-40.

No way United would have turned down any offer. However good Pogba is, Ole struggles to fit him in because of the system we play.

It is annoying that we have a team of galacticos but no real balance.

The word 'bidded' is a nonstandard word, ie. a word that you use as slang or in 'relaxed conversation' with friends.

The correct formal writing for 'bidded' is simply bid.

I agree with your point though. A large enough bid for Pogba would have seen him leave the club this transfer window.

I'd say 50m and he'd be gone. Him and fat bsatard would have been laughing all the way to the bank with a huge signing on fee and agent fee.

Real Madrid just tried to by Mbappe for £200million when he can also be had for free next summer. Curious comment when we have history of a club trying just this as little as 9 days ago.

I thought there was a distinct lack of new hypothetical Pogba threads as of late. This fixes it.
