How many times have we beaten Newcastle 4-1 already? I've lost count.
And some of their fans still wants to get annoyed at the fact that we call ourselves "United." Clearly there's only one United who matter.

Newcastle executed their gameplan perfectly. Now watch them bending over against Chelsea and City.

I've watched all of the highlights non-stop for the entire day and night. Not joking. Truly a great moment to be a United fan.

On a separate note, I watched the highlights of the Newcastle goal several times and I'm not sure what to make of it as I'm not a football man as they say. The most obvious thing was the Maguire lunge but I don't know if I can blame him in that situation as it felt as if he was left out to dry. Think that Matic was actually at fault for the goal for allowing Almiron to turn as easily as he did from a throw in and gain so much momentum. Not sure if Shaw should have done more but considering the part of the pitch it was, seems ridiculous for the left back to have to do everything there. Don't think that occurs if Fred or McTom were in there. Hard to be too critical of anyone else in that situation

In fact, most if not all of Newcastle's dangerous moments came from set piece transitions today (i.e. throw ins like the one mentioned above and the one Bruno was too late to in our own box, transitions from our corners etc.). Surely this is something that can be rectified in training?

Ronny's second reminded me a little bit of Mason's against Leeds
Take a look at Ronaldo's goal against same opposition during 07/08 season. Assisted by Carrick. It was somewhat similar. We won the game 1-5.

I rewatched the game and actually we played really well. But for some very good defending we would have scored much sooner and more. It was always going to be hard to play against a bus. But our tempo was good, our passing was crisp and we controlled the ball well. Contrary to what I thought on first view ( I only saw end of first half and second) Sancho actually played pretty well. He’s going to be a really good player for us, no question about that. Just needs some more game time. I was also pleased to see we didn’t try and play everything through Ronnie. Just wish Donnie could get some more game time. Think he could’ve come on earlier for Sancho and switched Pogba to midfield. But other than that, very encouraged. And we will only grow from this. Roll on Tuesday, when o expect Donnie to start.

Are you talking about when Maguire dove in like a U10 player and gave his man a free run at goal? Or when he tried to keep up with his man and ended pulling both of his arms to stop him from getting away? Maguire just doesn't read the game very well, has no pace, and gets turned easily. I would have liked to have seen Lindelof paired with Varane but that will probably never happen. The problem with our CB pairing was not having someone who would attack high balls and command the box - Varane now does that. I'm not here to pile on Maguire, we needed a CB and we got a good one, but getting the pairing right is the real trick. Maguire + Lindelof wasn't magic, and Maguire + Varane isn't either. This is probably an unpopular/daft opinion but I think the Varane + Lindelof pairing would work better.

Hope I'm wrong!
I'd like to see it tried though!

Maguire may not be the best around. However if you feel Maguire doesn't read the game well, then I am at a complete loss as to why you feel that Lindelof is the answer to that. He is nowhere near the standards we need. Have you forgotten him constantly losing his man and Maguire having to bail his ass. Or the numerous times he keeps back tracking instead of actually facing the player with the ball. Lindelof is good in some aspects like playing long balls and allowing our forwards break behind the opposition defense but I don't think we need that as the primary attribute in a CB.

For most of the game yes but once United were able to build more than a two goal lead it was done. These teams have no plan beyond conceding less than a two goal deficit and hoping for a successful counter attack.

What has happened to the OT capacity? Obviously a sell out but only 72,700 instead of 75,000+.

Quite poor, slow and ponderous, particularly in the middle of the pitch. Matic? That’s the piece missing. A glut of attacking talent, being subdued by a lack of moving the ball quickly.

Luke Shaw did it second half and look what happened…….

A great result and finishing flurry second half, so I’m happy. Great to be there too. Note to the crowd: there are other players on th3 pitch other than Ronaldo……

Not yesterday there wasn't! Yesterday was always going to be about Ronaldo. When the current crop win a Premier League, Champions league or Balon Dor the crowd will chant their name with the same affection.

Let's see how bad they want it this season. Barring having a perfect CDM there are no excuses for not winning trophies this season.

Great to see Ronaldo get 2 goals under what must have been immense pressure but that man just delivers time and time again. Was delighted to see Bruno get a worldie of a goal and letting people know he is still here.

My only gripe is we need a throw in coach or at least common sense when it comes to them, when Shaw threw our throw into our penalty box with Newcastle players all around i actually shouted at the tv and it nearly led to a goal. Why are we so stupid with throw ins, it cant be that hard to have a routine for them.

We have Ronaldo, Bruno and Pogba that are three players that would make it to any team in the world. Unreal amount of talent and pleasure to see us play. So many United lads in this team too that it’s truly brilliant.
Plus 3 of the best young players in the world in Greenwood, Sancho, Rashford with two of the best defenders in the world in Varane and Shaw.

That’s a really good side. We just need something more in midfield and a right back who is good at attacking as well (even if I like the spider, he is frustrating at times !).

I'm thinking we can play Dalot against Newcastle-level teams at home.

Yesterday was amazing. So much fun and excitement...
I was very bitter when I thought he'd go to City, but he's our again!!! One of the greatest players ever. How good does that feel.

The one time we moved the ball quickly resulted in the second goal. One touch from Pogba, Matic and can't remember who else and Shaw was away.

Maybe start playing quicker/don't hold up the ball for 5+ seconds at a time?

their equalizer was entirely maguire''s fault. His lunge was needless
Disagree, Luke Shaw lost the first challenge, and then instead of covering his own position (where the goal was conceded from), he just ineffectively (and needlessly) closed down near Bissaka.

Ya blame lies on Maguire, I think DDG could have made himself bigger also but I think he was conscious of the ball going in at his near post
varane's challenge was exactly world-class either

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th goals were all brilliant.

Wasn’t even a particularly great performance but still blew them away due to sheer firepower. This team is going to score some goals this season, christ. Rashford and Cavani weren’t even available.
Rashford and Cavani are both inferior to current options. That's how nuts the attacking side of this squad is.

Hope Rashford doesn't rush back and gets 100%.

I guess lots of people on here will be saying we are going to win the title after that - truth is we were cut open quite often and if Newcastle had a poacher on the field we might well have been behind before ronaldo's second. Hate to say it but Shearer probably would have had a hat-trick - quality sides would certainly have punished us.

Of course, we kept going, played some very good football and the goal's were nice. But problems remain in midfield and the defence went AWOL for their equaliser. We do still need a world-class destroyed in midfield - Keano in his this side would be fun to watch.

The positives were obvious but I have been disappointed in Sancho so far this season - let's hope he finds his feet soon.

I think WestHam next week will be a much more serious test for us

Nah their goal was not our fault, it was because Almiron is a great buzzing player and dribbler who deserves better than newcastle, despite his face

The second goal was not a goalkeeping mistake. It’s brilliant finishing to put the ball between the keepers legs and the best have always done it.

After watching the match on Sky last night without all the 'river interruptions' , it wasn't so bad. Sancho was indeed better than I thought - he just needs some time.
In hindsight the team handled themselves well under the circumstances with all of the excitement over Ronnie.
As usual we need to keep pushing and improving.

It's what they do along with teams like Stoke, West Ham etc... one of the main reasons we went unbeaten away last season is we didnt have to contend with the wrath of some supporters who think Man United are the bitter enemy. Bolton were the worst.

Has anyone said that purely after the game?

We have a great little run of games to start us off but there’s a hard patch of Everton, Leicester, Pool, Spurs, City, Watford, Chelsea (in that order) on the horizon. Given we dropped too many points in those types of games last season, that’ll be where we will see where we’re at with all the new faces bedded in.

Lindelof/Varane, not a bad idea. The rest of your post? Daft? Yes.

I would participate in the lineup predicitons but I don't want to embarrass anyone by being so right all the time.
