Top-5? He was our best player for raising spirits of so many fans in the pandemic. He was a hero for giving us the pure entertainment what we all needed in those difficult times
I'm not gonna disagree. I love Cavani. I just didnt wanna have some debate, so I played it safe by including him alongside Bruno, Shaw, Pogba, Maguire etc.

True professional in every sense. I remember when he first joined , our next game was against PSG. There was a video of him talking to and giving Axel Tuanzebe tips on how to deal with the PSG attack and that was Axels best game in a United shirt. Great for our young strikers too, just too many positive since he’s been here.

I agree with your top-5, no doubt they were our best players but Cavani gave us something different last year. Quite impressed with his prfoessionalism too.

Exactly, I love him for the way he conducted himself from dayone on top of being useful to kids like Greenwood &co.
I felt happy when Greenwood started using his head to score goals last year (influence from Cavani)

A good chunk of the fanbase threw him under the bus when the FA went on a witch hunt on a baseless comment.

Everyone wants him to give up his jersey number for ronaldo while jones can show the middle finger to varane. And now today a section of the fanbase wouldn't mind cavani leaving for barcelona since we have ronaldo.

If last season didn't show these fans the importance of a proper striker then nothing will. We wouldn't have finished 2nd if cavani wasn't around.

I bet cavani scores more goals (per min played) than ronaldo this season (excluding pens and free kicks).

Show some loyalty to a utd player who's run his socks off every game he's played.
Cavani is amazing. I always liked him a lot, even when he was at PSG and actually hated Neymar for lacking respect for Edi, because PSG version of Neymar actually wasn't as good as Cavani and yet he was acting like a total superstar jerkoff. Cavani is truly a world-class player with fantastic achievements and he's been game-changer for us. I couldn't possibly have more respect for him.

I don't think Ronaldo's return takes away anything from the respect and appreciation we should have for Edi. We had to jump on the chance of re-signing Ronaldo, considering the history, considering he is one of the only two GOATs, it wasn't even an option not to do that, but that is no reflection on how much we should love and appreciate Cavani. I do believe Cavani understands. He's a great lad.

I've seen barely any criticism of Cavani?

We signed him for free amid a lot of scepticism and he's been fantastic. Arguably the best signing any team made last year.

What has there been to criticise?

I wouldn't have blamed him for leaving both due to the red list situation and us signing Ronaldo, but that's not the same thing as wanting him to.

What reason do you have to be skeptical?

Yeah, feels like Ole's making things up. This is how he treated Pogba as well when Raiola was running his mouth off last year. I imagine Cavani's pissed because he didn't play for the NT and he's posted some social media messages along those lines as well. Not sure what else might have gone on behind the scenes.

I don't think it's the #7, Ole said Ronaldo called Cavani up and asked him for it so that's probably that.

He's also posted this, so I think people are looking for controversy where there isn't any.

I get that the last few years have been a shitshow for us as fans but we need to stop having such a negative outlook.

He looked super happy and enthusiastic about the club etc in that fan q&a he did.

Think we might be overthinking this one.

Ah okay, that's promising. Even if he was pissed temporarily, it's not a big deal, I think everyone would get on with it as pros. They'll probably work something out for the next international break with the national FAs / English authorities about quarantining requirements. Think Ole was implying that if a player went by private jet, gets tested during the international break, comes back by private jet and gets tested again, there's not such a need for quarantines etc.

Generally speaking, I've seen mostly support for Cavani. I wasn't sure when he came in, but was converted his first match. You just watch him come on the field, the way he conducts himself, and you know. As for the FA thing, I thought it was ridiculously overblown.

Going forward, I feel kind of sorry for him because of the coincidence of events that occurred to bring Ronaldo back into the fold. I think everyone did the right thing as events did not, and then did, unfold. I hope things work well for him because in ANY other situation, I think he would be our #1 striker.

There are a lot of games to go around, though, with three tournaments and the league, so he'll get time, just maybe not his pick of the matches.

Can't remember much criticism of him around here over the Twitter comment, rather the contrary. Or much else negativity either. In fact, if someone asked me to name a player on United who seems to draw almost only positivity from the posters around here, I'd probably pick Cavani. Well deserved too.

Still a world class player and arguably the 2nd best striker at the club, maybe just maybe the club wants his hefty salary off the wage bill with the recruitment of Ronaldo?

His movement is absolutely phenomenal as is his finishing. The space he can create for himself and Ronaldo will be an incredible weapon. I’d be looking to get the 2 of them in the team somehow

He missed 19 games for PSG through injury the season before he joined us and 15 games for us last season. He's become a lot more injury prone as he's got older. He's not a player to rely on anymore.
Honestly I was surprised he was as fit for as much of the season he was last year for us. He only started 7 league games for PSG in his final year!

Didn't he play on the right for PSG when Zlatan was there? Would be a pretty amazing option to have there too with his work-rate and ability. A front three of Sancho, Ronaldo, Cavani would be pretty special.

He was a bit younger back then. Pretty clearly a box striker now, in my opinion.

He did, but also let's not forget that the French League was paused and did not complete the year due to covid so he likely would have played more games in the second half of the season as he was only starting to come into fitness at that point.

Good point. I completely forgot that the French league just stopped the league with about 10 games to go.

I think what the OP was really trying to express was an ‘ineffable’ sense that Cavani’s been disproportionately under-appreciated.

Like you said he’s been absolutely fantastic, but there’s a bit of hang-on-a-minute-now-how-come-we-don’t-really-hear-about-it.

I sincerely doubt that United fans don't respect Cavani because we all know how good he is and I think we all loved what he did for us last season. What happened with Jones and Varane is a different matter because Jones has given everything for this club and will obviously feel disrespected if he had to give away the number he's worn for a long long time. I know he's had a lot of injuries but that is something out of your hands because not everyone is blessed with a beautiful body and you take what you get. I'm sure he's not one of best defenders in football today and hasn't been in a long time but if we didn't renew his contract and he was gone I'm sure none of this would've mattered. Coming back to Cavani and Ronado number switch, they are both consummate professionals and respect each other a lot and I'm sure Cavani knows he had to do it to renew his respect. Ronaldo is an icon and any other number wouldn't make sense. It all worked out well. Cavani is definitely a fantastic striker and no one is backing out from that fact. I think Ronaldo doesn't have the discipline to play as a #9 and somewhere down the line, they'll play alongside each other.

Ole looked really uncomfortable as soon as he was asked and then he’s answer didn’t do any favours. No criticism of Cavani I think he’s been ace but with all the stuff with shirt numbers etc I think as a manager he should have cleared up the injury situation!

Its such a shame we didnt get Cavanni when he was in his prime, though hes still a great player. Hes really taken to the club and its history and the supporters have taken to him.

He wasted his career. Should have moved to the prem rather than France.

It was just a 4-5 day thing.

It started with some users seeing him as the reason we were letting City sign Ronaldo and suddenly Public Enemy No.1 who had the audacity to negotiate a longer leave.

That got aggravated with news he would hardly be available due to quarantines turning him into the disloyal mercenary who never loved us as much as he loved his country.

Then there was the #7. We had to get shot of him so CR could be CR7 again. They had to have that on the new kit and Edi was getting on the way of it all.

Demotion to the newbs should be a thing. You would have a ball with his performace thread that week.

Not really, check the Cavani performance thread, what about #7, Barcelona rumours... Packed with fickle dimwits.

His build-up play especially is world class for a striker. I miss that in our side.

Helped get the ball on the ground in good areas last season loads of times and can even play a killer pass.
