Yeah, they count 'tickets sold' don't they, so I have definitely been to games like, for example, Stoke on a rainy Wednesday night, whereby you have maybe 2,000 empty seats dotted about. They will have been bought and paid for, but people possibly haven't travelled due to late kick-offs and having to get away from work etc...

In the main though, I imagine OT has genuinely been at 99%+ for every weekend home game in the PL era
I believe they might have sold 99% but 99% didn't attend that's for sure neither did the 99% that voted for Putin.

Having it as a rule would great, and I think most PL clubs would agree to it, especially the established ones.

I can't for the life of me remember the club, but I'm pretty sure there was a club that agreed, with the FA's blessing, to move a game from away to home so the lower league club, who were in dire straits at the time, could earn more income on the game.

I was speaking to a couple of City fans I know last week who have followed City all their lives (both well into their 50's). They told me they were bored to death with the way the team plays passing it around endlessly, there's no excitement cos they know a ruck of goals are coming against the lesser teams.

I remember I got absolutely slammed and accused of being a jealous rag when speaking to a couple of City fans a few years ago in Corbieres after a derby. They beat us and cos I said I hate watching Pep teams cos of the style of play, even when he was at Barca I got berated  .

Give me end to end football any day over some soulless machine churning out results against the lesser teams with death by a thousand cuts. I wouldn't go either!

The fact is anyone could do what City have done. Fleetwood town could be bought by saudis and they could throw infinite money at it until it went somewhere.

It wouldnt give them an enormous fanbase though
City were arguably ripe for investment due to being gifted a fancy stadium as well as being in the Premier League and piggybacking of the Manchester name.

While it could be done with anyone, it would take a lot longer to do it with the likes of Fleetwood Town. Moreover, City were able to do it before any sort of regulation was in place. Now with FFP it's far more difficult to do it.

I know City fans who do look back wistfully at the 'old' City, when they were the outsiders, the underdogs sticking it to the big corporates down the road.

Don't get me wrong, I also know City fans who absolutely love sticking the boot into United, and are happy to win at any cost. There are, however, a fair percentage who don't like the commercialisation of their club and the re-branding that has commenced over the last few years.

Them having Silva and Kompany statues in front of the stadium tells all you need to know about that club.

The problem is you're basically asking that guy "Did you enjoy your life more 20, 25 years ago?". So what he's gonna say? Of course you remember when you were young, when you were 20. Nobody wants to be 40, 50.
I am quite looking forward to the 40s. Not really missing my 20s.

just listened to a city fan on talksport saying we are the most loyal fans 32000 at maine in the 3rd division, sure Utd had more than that when we were relegated in the 70s. You can't buy history, tradition, culture embedded with things being built with merit and not just bought. City will always be a Manufactured club which majority have zero respect for.

What a joke having to beg your own fans to turn up. Some muppet fan on Talksport trying to defend the indefensible started off by say ‘firtytwo fousand fans in the fird division at Maine road, that says it all’. That of course will include away fans. The cesspit that was Maine road held over 80,000 at one stage. This guy went on to say ‘Liverpool fans are hard core, it’s life or def wiv them’ this in response to his ‘We are all working class local fans not tourists and plastic fans like at United’ Simon Jordan pointed out Liverpool was a working class area. He couldn’t make the case. I thought ‘The Project’ was to attract more fans to help pay for all the players and staff. Not worked has it. What an embarrassment, I bet the PR people at the council ground are going crazy ha ha ha.

I listened to that too haha when Simon said United could sell their stadium 3x over I thought the city fan was gonna lose it haha and their giving the tickets away but no one wants to go. And the other thing Simon said too which is why no one wants to go is everything they've achieved is manufactured compared to what others have done through time, hard work and determination. I hope Pep does more of these interviews. Hopefully he'll use the word "plastic" at some point
City fan on talksport going when we were in 3rd division we pulled in 32000 fans most loyal fans in the world had me in stitches my dad and uncles all went to Utd when they were relegated in the 70s and the crowd was still in full force. City are an embarrassment and just proves you can throw all the money into it but you may have quick success but you will never have the success they truly crave that can't be bought. The likes of United, Liverpool, Villa or even Nottingham Forest have had. European and Domestic success which hadn't been bought but been done on the back of hard work, determination and over time. I hope we hear THE CITY IS YOURS at Old Trafford on Sunday

They want fans to decorate the background. They don't need fans to help pay for all the players and staff. Sponsorships from the UAE pays for all that. And of course, the players and staff agree to relatively low wages because they love the club. They love the club so much, that they agree to take on extremely lucrative side contracts to promote them (as per Mancini's contract).

Off to Bluemoon we go, then. I’ve seen some pretty hilarious spin on there over the years but this is gonna be good.

Just a final thought.

Maybe if City had won the CL final last season, there might be more interest in the CL this season?

Night.
Personally thought the atmosphere was pretty decent, needed an away crowd but times are what they are with Covid.
I really enjoyed the match and thought it was a good crowd. Mobile ticketing is very difficult for many older supporters. Not everyone is a IT lover either.

Norwich averaged crowds of 29000 in the 3rd division in 2009 or something, an increase on their previous season's crowds in the Championship. They'd probably have had even more if their ground could hold more, as their average was just 500 below capacity, and it included away fans which didn't always sell out. City's boast of 32000 fans in the 3rd division isn't as impressive as they make it out to be, and other mid tier clubs can match that.

Sunderland averaged 32,157 spectators per game in 18/19, their first season in League 1. They're currently averaging 29,954 in 21/22, their fourth season in League 1.

Norwich and Sunderland would be around City's level were it not for the sheiks. Except from my experience, Norwich and Sunderland fans don't throw around abuse at other clubs nearly as much as City fans do. They're happy with their lot more or less, and aspire to more, but aren't nearly as entitled as City fans are.

I think that's just tribalism. Football fans have absolutely no problem to make any excuse they want or defend any behaviour when one of 'their' players is involved. The thing is City's brand simply didn't grow enough recently (and I think were there also higher expectations for NYCFC) for a combination of reasons and one of them is there are four bigger clubs in England, then another 8-10 big clubs in Spain+Italy+Germany+France so you're competing with so many other brands. I think second stadium expansion was planned for 2018 or 2019 but that didnt happen so clearly there were some targets and I understand why Pep's unhappy. When he joined City he compared them with Villarreal and now they're maybe somewhere between Atleti and Sevilla, I think.
Just four bigger clubs in England than city? Off the top of my head I’d say

Manchester United
Chelsea
Liverpool
Leeds
Villa
Forest
Arsenal
Spurs
Everton
West Ham

and probably more if we’re counting just fans and following, such as Newcastle, Norwich. City are just a very rich little club.

Embarrassing. If this was an American sport, the owners would’ve moved this franchise to another city in England a long time ago.

They could win the quadruple and still not fill their own stadium. Maybe they should try buying fans instead of players next summer. Joke of a club.

I would love to know what planet this guy lives on. Talking about not having enough money to buy Kane in the summer (despite bidding 120 million). Talking about tough games with a tired team, with his ridiculous squad.

Now pleading with fans to come to the game. Surely he was there at all those naff, muted celebrations when they won their trophies? Nobody cares mate. You have no fans and no real enemies either. Fake team playing by their own rules.

Imagine having a squad so good that has been "completed" 4 years ago and completed 3 more times after that to the point where all you want to do on a press conference is to invite the fans to come and watch.

Well it's been said, city can cope without fans, and they can they dont need them, its embarrassing that a club with all that talent all the Joy's of the top manager in the world st pep, he has to beg for fans to turn up. Why bother pep in the cups, and get to Wembley send tickets back again.

I think we had the highest attendance in any league in England (incl Div.1) when we were in Div.2

Pathetic club with plastic fans and a chequebook manager begging fans to come support the team. It’d be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.
