Excellent presser, looking forward to getting Scotty and Cavani up and running.

Really liked the part about when Ole was asked about the midfield and his philosophy.

Let's bounce back and smash these.

Top of the league.

is it not exhausting being as miserable of a human as you are, i constantly see you post the same crap all the time on this forum, you do not agree with an opinion of someone therefor they are in your eyes a shitposter, take a break grandad
Yeah I'm the miserable one, not the posters bitching and complaining about the managers incessantly. I have absolutely no idea who you are, but I think I can safely surmise you're another that finds no joy in actually watching football, but rather bitching about someone a manager may or may not have said. Football is meant to be enjoyable. If you cant find enjoyment in it then you might want to leave it to those who can?

Edit: just had a swift look at your posting history. My god. The hypocrisy.

Passion isn't gonna win us any titles. Every team has passion, we're not unique in that regard. If Ole's whole gameplan is built around passion and desire to win, then it's not looking really good for us, is it? Guardiola has spelled out what he is trying to do in a number of interviews, it's not a national secret. Regardless if the other team knows what you are about to do, if you know how to do it, the other team won't be able to stop you. Van Gaal was a manager here and he talked about his philosophy that became something of a meme word. Yeah, his philosophy was boring, low tempo possession above everything, even scoring goals, football, but it was a philosophy nevertheless. You could see what he was trying to do, like it or not. With Ole his presser just confirms what we are witnessing on the pitch - the players look like they just met each other and told to go on the pitch and kick the ball. Rio should just take an interview from Carrick or McKenna and ask him to explain wtf are we trying to do because Ole certainly doesn't have an idea.

And I hate that people still try to compare him to SAF saying they're both similar in that regard. Absolute nonsense. SAF had a clear philosophy that he employed at each and every one of his clubs - high tempo football utilizing quick passes and intense pressing, and domination of the wings. He certainly tinkered with it over the years depending on his players, sometimes it didn't work that well, especially in his last few years (given the quality of his players then), but it was always there. 3 years later and I still have no idea what Ole is trying to do. When it comes to pressing we're very lethargic, our passing is dreadful - we either hoof it or short pass it, but when we short pass it we're terrible at it. We're neither low or high tempo, we don't prioritize possession or counter attacks. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd say we're built like a Moyes underdog team who is built around soaking pressure and let the enemy attack, but when you're managing Manchester United, you're expected to dominate games, not "make it difficult for the other team" philosophy.
Strawman.

You've just gone and proven exactly what I was saying.

You're arguing about the idea that Ole only builds his team about passion. But that's not what he said. He only said that it was a factor in the bigger picture.

I could strawman your post just as easily by claiming that you think technique is the only thing that matters and that effort is irrelevant.

Do you have some funky form of tourettes where you have to say strawman in every one of your posts?

Do you not find it exhausting reading the same Anti-Ole rubbish week in week out during the season? @ivaldo has a point IMO.
Generally speaking we play better more exciting football, our results are better, the squad is stronger and more harmonious now than before Ole. We are in a better place as a club and there are those that refuse to see it for god only knows what reason. I can only assume it’s because Ole isn’t as trendy as pep, klopp or tuchel.
We have bad games, we make individual errors but the team is young and you have to allow for human error. But we are in a good place getting stronger, and I fail to see why so many insist on being miserable and defeatist after a handful of games - especially based solely on a throw away answer to a stupid question in a press conference. No need to get personal or resort to name calling.

Damn, I like Ole and even I got annoyed reading that.

Throw some vague definitions of what you want instead of rehashing the same old non sense around desire and mentality.
yep. He really does himself no favors there.

Your posts are, without exception, moronic. Maybe try fixing that first.

If people would stop making strawman arguments, I'd happily stop calling them out on their bullshit.

I don't think I've missed a United game in the last 15 years. 2nd most goals, would have been 5th most if not for the 9-0 anomaly against Southampton. How many penalties did we score? How many times did we score from a long-ball? We play long balls and counter attacks. If you think we play attacking football then it's you that's not watching the games.

Moronic is just your version of not crawling up Ole's a*se. Keep living in denial bud. He will never win anything as a manager in the top 4 leagues in the Europe.

I agree with Dante but the word 'strawman' needs to be removed from the Internet.
It's a term that's been around for a lot longer than the internet.

How else would you describe an argument where somebody has twisted another person's words in order to win a debate about a fantasy they've completely made up?

Some of the Ole defenders are acting as if there are clear tactics visible in the game and it is only in press conference he is deflecting the question.
Again, it is quite possible that we have a good season, and I hope we have it, but time is running out for Ole. With all the players at his disposal, it is all about results now. No longer a work in progress project.
Ole has done the job that he was brought in for, he brought calm to the dressing room after the turmoil with Maureen. He has not really cleared the "trash" as people think. He instead gave Jones a contract extension, while getting rid of 2 players who were pretty useful.

Ole has shown he has absolutely no idea on how to play modern attacking football but keeps harking back to the good old days of Ferguson. The results he got after he was put in temporary charge were very good, but we did not play well apart from one or 2 games. He has been in charge full time for over 2 years and has not implemented any playing philosophy other than relying on individual brilliance. That wins you some matches, but to win the title you need a consistent playing style that wins games.

We have Ronaldo, Bruno, Pogba, Sancho, Greenwood, yet we cannot create a decent chance against Southampton, Wolves of Young Boys. It's the same issue every year where we cannot break a team down. Sitting back and hitting top 6 teams will not get you very far, you need to beat the lower level teams as well.

Ole would have been safe in his job if he finished in the top 4 as that brings money in for the owners and in turn, makes Woody look good, but Ronaldo is not here to finish in the top 4, he is here to win. When he starts complaining at the end of the year, Ole will be gone, I am sure of that.

The most significant thing Ole has done as a manager is suffer relegation with Cardiff, yet we are supposed to see him as a messiah at United because he brought goodwill back to the dressing room?

Some just don't want to believe it, even though the guy is really honest. He's really saying the truth, his tactical game plan and philosophy are non existent and he doesn't hide from it, he knows quite well his football is all about "desire" and "passion" and nothing else, and it's clear by just watching us whenever we're in a tough situation, but of course, for some here who couldn't stop debating otherwise, it's hard to believe so. They made their mind that Ole is a mastermind tactical genius and is just deflecting questions from the press because apparently his tactics we watch regularly are so complex to understand.
There is a saying, when people tell you who they are, believe them. Ole is clearly telling how he operates and people want to pretend he's got tactics he just doesn't want to share in press conference. :houllier:

I didn't say you did. It's just my statement. Do you even understand what strawman means because you're using it wrong? Nobody is twisting your statements because you're not even stating anything. Go on then, tell me, do you think Ole will win anything as United manager?

Philosophy in football is nonsense. Buzz words to seem intellectual. What you’re literally describing is tactics and Ole actually describes how he wants from his midfielders as an example
He wants Keane, Robson and Scholes? Well, good luck with that. That's not tactics. That's just wanting the best midfielders.
"Be more like Roy Keane, please."
"Ok."

100%. We should have thanked him for his work and parted ways. The thing that annoys me the most about these staunch Ole defenders is that when you say he's not good enough after yet another abysmal performance they scream "ohh you're so reactionary!!!". I'll tell you what's reactionary, hiring a mid to low-tier manager and full set of backroom staff on a permanent basis on the back of a champions league result in Paris. His very position as United manager is the definition of reactionary.

And it will be spun as an argument to give him another year, because we don't have a CM/CDM. TF?
This is the best squad in the league, and I believe that completely. Failure to win at least PL and he needs to go.

Top of the table after 3 games is such a ridiculous statement to begin with. I can't believe anyone with an IQ above room temperature would even use this in an argument.
Arsenal are top of the table after 0 games thanks to the alphabetical order. Arsenal fans must be buzzing every year.

People will defend him because he doesn't have the best player in the world in every single position yet City will no doubt overshadow us whilst going into the season with no leftback because Mendy decided to get himself locked up. City also don't have a striker but nobody will have sympathy with them for that because there was a transfer window and they didn't get one. Just like Ole decided against bringing in a midfielder. If his midfield isn't up to scratch then it's on him, he's had enough windows & money to have fixed the issue by now.

Decided to take a break from Redcafe but logged in (wish I hadn't) and seen this thread and couldn't resist responding. Its pretty obvious that so many of Ole's comments around passion and desire are aimed at the team and not the fans. I don't think we are a lazy team but we do start too many games slowly and this is clearly something that is talked about privately and then reiterated in situations such as press conferences. He knows the team will see those comments.

Sidenote - just when you think the cafe can't sink any lower there's a 460 post thread on a press conference comment. I mean, seriously, what the feck has happened to this place? I think the mods have always done a brilliant job with this forum but its getting ridiculous now. I feel that cutting the cord is now necessary for me because of the incessant negativity and I can't help but wonder how many feel the same or have already made that decision. It has to stop. This is the best forum available for our club and frankly I've become embarrassed about how this now looks in terms of being a representation of this club and it's fanbase. You would seriously think we were Arsenal the way this place reads.

Yep, that’s exactly what he meant. I want Roy Keane.
Maybe if he talked about the philosophy of wanting a Roy Keane and the attributes that would bring to a modern world that would have suited you better?

I think united fans should stop the "holier than thou" attitude personally. Fans are just fans, they are allowed to discuss issues about the club they love. I don't consider us to be 'above it' or better than any other set of fans.

And yes, take a break if it bothers you so much.

Can't tell sarcasm around these parts anymore... we have the most goals in the league
We scored 9 past Leeds and Newcastle, let's wait with the most goals argument

We scored the 2nd most number of goals last season, just 5 behind City.

Tell me you dont watch United play, without telling me you dont watch United play.

I don't see the connection, we have an amazing amount of attacking talent at the club at the moment, that does not mean we play attractive, attacking football.
Look at how many chances per game we create that will tell you our brand of football.
We're most often set up defensively with two defensive minded midfielders, even at home against bottom half of the table teams, using a hell lot of long balls and very little of quick, one touch passing.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

9 of those came in one game though. You can’t count them. Only goals which determine the outcome of a match can be counted. Provided it’s the right type of goal.

Edit - also goals against teams such as Leeds and Newcastle don’t count as full goals as per @red_de_pologne above. It has to be the right type of goal against the right type of team.
