In this episode Ashwin (@AR87) and Raees (@Raees) discuss our defeat at the hands of Young Boys.

(*Editors Note* Due to unforeseen technical difficulties, for this episode we are down a man

- Just like United! The recording was corrupted but we hope you still enjoy the discussion even if the flow is a little disrupted at times)

** This is my fault! I took part in this discussion with the lads but due to serious technical issues I was unable to add my recording to the finished piece. Apologies troops, will do better next time but hope you enjoy the chat Ashwin & Raees had about our terrible defeat in Switzerland. Get your fix before we play the Hammers!

The Varane is not a leader part is something I really disagree with. Worth reading this article.

https://www.managingmadrid.com/2020...-i-am-a-leader-in-my-own-way-real-madrid-2020

Raphael Varane recently spoke with beIN SPORTS (via AS) where talked about his role in the future at the club and his relationship with defensive partner Sergio Ramos.

“For the future, it’s difficult to plan. Real Madrid is a very, very big club with great players. What is important is that everyone plays their part in the team.”

“When we won our titles, our Champions Leagues, it was as a team, with eleven leaders on the pitch each time.”

“Sergio is a legend in Madrid. The future for the moment I do not project about it, but for sure Ramos is a very important player for us.”

“What is certain is that we are very complementary with Sergio Ramos, in our way of playing.” We have qualities that complement each other perfectly. We have been playing together for several years, so we know each other very well.”

“In defense, it works in pairs and this understanding is very important. For the future, after the departure of Ramos, it is difficult to project yourself.”

“I am a leader in my own way. With my teammates, I talk a lot before matches about tactics and positioning. We each have our own way.”

Varane has established himself as one of the senior members of the squad. It’s a bit odd to think of him as a veteran when he’s still only 27, but his experience and success while starting at the club has made him so.

There’s no doubt that Varane will be looked upon for leadership when the eldest members of the squad, such as Ramos, Marcelo and Modric, have gone and retired. His current presence is valuable for both experience and quality.

The values he’s showed at Real have also translated to him being a leader with France in both present and future internationally. No doubt, he’s learned a lot about being a leader from his captain Sergio Ramos.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Varane as captain of both Real Madrid and France in the future. He will be that true veteran presence when the squad continues maturing in both age and development.

For now, it is a privilege to watch a world class defender continue to work in his prime alongside a true legend of the club and game like Ramos.

I think it was a fair criticism of the management in the Young Boys match.

Fair play but I thought it was a good point the lads said, that he is more the secondary defender and he is a much better partner for Maguire than Lindelof (although I do quite like him and don't get on his back a lot).

I think it was a fair criticism of the management in the Young Boys match.
Many thanks.

That makes sense. I kept wondering why there were parts where it felt like a third person was present, but they never actually said anything

If the mains forum was a podcast, that summed it up.
I will say I couldn't help laughing a little when Rees talked about Lingards back pass.

How, when he first thought it was Lindelöf, he got extremely pissed and then suddenly when he realised it was Lingard it was a mistake everyone makes... :D

 It’s because I’d expect a defender to be more aware of the harm of making a blind back pass compared to a midfielder who for all his other flaws has never really produced a defensive mistake of that magnitude.

Hehe yeah and that's completely fair. It just sounded a bit funny and reminded me of the cafés usual views. :b
