Great little start we have had here.

C Ronaldo's ability to instantly adapt in Portugal, England, Spain, Italy and England again has been great to see.

Hopefully Messi can adapt well in the French League very well.

Honest question, do you know what you're talking about? Because I admit that I have no knowledge of these things and intuitively I could imagine both are the case: It could be a completely different situation because Messi was out of contract but it could also be the other way round since he still was a Barcelona player until recently, triggering some kind of exception or something similar. There are many laws that leave some room for interpretation.

Moreover, I noticed you come across very angry in the majority of your posts. I don't know if that's intended or not, but I think you should relax a little once a while.
It's the Messi vs Ronaldo thread.

But in any case, I don't know how the law is when Barcelona was Messi's previous club. If there is law to combat financial manipulation it wouldn't make much sense if you could just let your contract expire and then re-sign. I'm no expert on La Liga financial laws though. I just would have thought that if Messi legally could have re-signed in would have been reported.

I don‘t think you can judge someone’s mental state from their posting style on redcafe in fairness.
I like swear words when I post, Ari Gold esque, it’s got naff all to do with how I “feel”.

I know, I used "come across as" because of that. Just providing a perspective

Ronaldo fans insisting are funny. Great goalscorer, Müller level. but without a WC.

If I were to include either of them to any team, considering their pros and cons, I'm taking Ronaldo all day everyday.
My personal preference has always been the type of footballer Messi is but Ronaldo requires less of a specific setting and tactics to get him producing some goals at least.
Ronaldo is the more adaptable of the two.

Messi vs Ronaldo is like iOS vs Android. One works perfectly only with other iOS devices while the other works perfectly on pretty much any device. Prove me wrong.

All the media outlets say there is a spanish employment law that says that a players new contract cannot be less than 50% of the previous one to avoid finacial manipulation. Regardless of all of that, he wanted to leave last summer and it's kind of weird that Messi gets so much stick for leaving Barcelona when all his haters wanted him to leave and now he left, he just didnt join the club they wanted him to join. Which seems to be City. It would be stupid to play for Depay-esque wages anyway. If your the best in the world at your job, you want to be paid what the market thinks you're worth. Ronaldo is the highest paid footballer in the premiere league. But he's also still one of the best in the world.
Tbf if he joined City, they would've still found a way to spin it negatively. Probably along the lines of he left to join Pep and so he's still in his "comfort zone"

Messi single handedly destroyed Liverpool in the first leg though, I mean if Juventus getting knocked out by inferior teams is not his fault, how is Barcelona giving away a 3-0 lead is Messi's fault?
Because when Barcelona wins it's because of his team mates but then they lose it's because of Messi.

If you reach the point that you use Jamie Carragher as the authority, you've completely lost the plot.

Anyway, i think a more fair comparison would be Messi vs Lingard, do you reckon the lower level of the french farmer's league will allow messi to outscore Lingard this season? He's already 2 goals behind.

Because he did feck all in the second leg when his team needed a single goal ?

this is such a childish thing to say, I am sure if someone pointed out Cristiano's faults in Juve's CL failure, you will act exactly opposite of what you are doing right now, and irrc, he created a two clear cut chances in the second leg, one of which was missed by Suarez, another I cannot recall.

No team in particular.
He will have to win CL with PSG and hopes that Ronaldo doesn’t win PL with Man Utd, in order to end up looking better. Anything else would probably make him look worse.
It's all down to WC next year, and we all know that Portugal is cursed in that competition, so my guess is that the first decent team Portugal face they get eliminated like the last two tournaments (Uruguay and Belgium).

Messi has the advantage there, as he plays for Argentina, and due to history they are more likely to get to semifinals just with a decent performance, they don't even need to play like peak Barca to get far.

The best chance for Cr7 is if United gets eliminated early in the UCL, so they can concentrate all their energy in EPL while Liverpool,Chelsea, and City are busy in Europe.

But for now, the incoming Balloon D'or is more likely for Messi, so that makes 7 > 5.

I think it’s far more likely for PSG to win CL rather than Argentina to win the WC. Personally I don’t think semi final matters, but anything is possible.

 love the analogy but I‘m afraid you’re likely to be proven wrong by the end of the season. Messi’s too good to flop in Ligue 1.

If Ronaldo is a premium Android smart phone, Messi is one of Google's cloud computing server centers ;)

At this stage of their career, yes you'd have to go with Ronaldo. Physically he's in much better shape than Messi and needs less of the ball.

At their peaks though, it's Messi all day. It may seem like ages ago but there was a time Messi was brilliant off the ball with his pressing and ability to win the ball high up the pitch. Messi at his peak was just unreal and even though Ronaldo may have him in terms of longevity, but the football we saw from him from 2009-2015 and the 18/19 season is what will always set him apart from Ronaldo IMO. Ronaldo wrestled back a lot of ground with the 3 CLs but he still didn't match the individual excellence of Messi.

My god is it annoying that modern football fans can't look past goal scoring stats. I miss the times when Ronaldinho, Zidane or Kaka were considered best in the world despite there being more prolific goal scorers around. The whole Messi vs Ronaldo narrative and its subsequent reduction to goal records has shifted the whole attention towards scoring so much it is almost bizarre. I mean, now you have people in here claiming that Cristiano is more versatile because his scoring might be less dependent on the setup. What's next? Ruud van Nistelroy is a more versatile and complete player than Andres Iniesta or Arjen Robben?

At their peak, like I said my personal choice would be Messi and if I wanted to build a team to win, I'd still go for Ronaldo

Actually a better analogy in this case would be RVN versus Henry.

Good post!

Carragher says things to get a rise out of people, or else he's kind of an idiot. I remember him and Nev picking their combined Utd - Pool XI and the choices he was making were absolutely ridiculous.

I wonder what the excuses will be if Messi doesn't top every chart/statistic now that he's in a galactico team playing against a bunch of farmers.

The football level might be low in France but it's still a very physical league with many teams having butchers and thugs. It's not gonna be a breeze all the time for him.

Mamy of those farmers will end playing in EPL.

Hell, farmer Henry was considered best foreign player of EPL before Cristiano arrived in Manchester, and adult Man Utd fans worship a farmer named Eric Cantona who they even name 'King'
Now Chelsea fans worship a farmer called Kanté, who was about to get relegated with Caen playing against others farmers.

Be careful, you might end worshipping one of those farmers, or even buying a shirt with their name on it.

I don’t believe in the greatest player ever topic, but for me Messi has been the best in this generation and I believe his club career has been better Then Ronaldo.

Same here. Ronaldo has done well enough that there is at least a debate.

Your talking individual players on otherwise weak teams….

I can make the same argument for Portugal as we along with France are major suppliers to the top teams and leagues of he world.

It does not change the fact that the overall qualities of both leagues is poor especially when you compare the level of PSG to the rest of the league.

He should have obscene numbers as he is far above this level.
