One thing I also noted towards the end was we lost our patience. There were some pot shots (bruno for one) which released the pressure on West Ham. Seemed to genuinely be a bit of tension out there...almost felt like if we were a bit more patient we'd have got the goal eventually.
Agreed, Bruno was awful when he came on in my opinion (except for a few great passes to be fair).

They defo panicked, which was disappointing.

I would recommend rewatching the game.

Bruno showed more after he came on the pitch than most of the team did during the 90.

Two particular moments of excellence were:

1. when Bruno did some link up play near the edge of the box then ran the full length of the pitch to get on the end of a lobbed through ball and win us a corner;

2. Bruno’s recovery run in the latter stages to make a crucial challenge to break up the counter (Elanga also stood out here for his sheer pace tracking back).

That’s fair, I think the bad bits probably overly stood out to me (especially when I was so very frustrated  )

One thing I love about Bruno is that for better or worse he tries things and doesn’t shy from responsibility.

I'm not that fussed about getting knocked out in all honesty, now we can focus on better things, plus our players won't get clattered into every 5 minutes from the likes of Mark fecking Noble

Absolutely! Very frustrating game for sure, but at the same time we have played much worse than that and won.

Just have to take the hit and move on, but it’s one less piece of silverware Ole can compete for this season and if there is one thing that all United fans seem to agree on at the moment it’s that Ole needs silverware.

As a side note, Bruno can be infuriating to watch, but I feel Martial is his kryptonite. Bruno wants to play those crazy passes forward and usually into the striker, but the number of times I looked for our striker and saw a big gap was maddening.

Totally agree, we do need silverware! I do think we will get it this season.

Also I agree with you about Bruno and the non-existent Martial, Bruno needs that striker in the box to play them balls to, Martial should be getting in those area's, now with Ronaldo and Cavani, I can't see him getting in the starting 11 now, we've all seen it for some time now.. I don't hate Martial, he's a fine and talented player but for whatever reason, he's not playing with his usual style. I think we should sell him come January, best for both parties then, hopefully he can get back to his best somewhere else.

Most of those players will barely play any matches at all now, nevermind get clattered by anyone.

I totally agree. Martial has lost his way. He has no ambition or purpose. I think his heart went after the breakup with his childhood sweetheart. I am sure everyone has their own take. I am confused why Ole gave him a start. He should be limited to sub appearances until he proves himself.

What is Mata? Is he still a player or is he a club ambassador already? Feels like he hung up his boots a long time ago.

Jones on the bench. What's the matter? Do Utd not have any prospects in the academy?

Bailly? How difficult is it to head the ball towards the goal? Do you have to sky everything over the bar every time?

Utd should stop fielding these losers and give more youth a chance.

He also lost his man in the box that lead to them scoring. If he’s playing DM that one mistake is the reason we lost the game.
That's something thats happening even if Fred or Scott are playing there. Atleast, i like the fact that he's making direct forward passes. Also I'm cutting him slack primary because that was his first 90 mins after a long time.

Yeah Martial is done.
I know I’m a bit late to the party, but just watched this https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/12414860/van-de-beek-and-martial-vs-west-ham-assessed
And I thought that Shebarne Ahern was absolutely spot on in every single thing she said.

Well we have squad depth but do we have quality in the depth to go on and win it with our second team. I don’t think so. And the fixtures will start to pile up around the festival season in my opinion. So it is better that we exit the league cup so we cam concentrate on the league and champions league and the FA cup.
We have enough quality in our depth. That second team we put out on Wednesday was many team's first 11 in the PL.

Many of the lower half first team would be at par with our second team i agree. But in order to win the league cup we would have had to beat city or chelsea or pool. I don’t think we could have beat them with the second team. We would eventually have had to play our strongest 11.
Let me put this another way, i didn’t like us going out of the competition but if we have to prioritize competitions then i would like us to put this one at the lowest priority.

We have to beat City/Liverpool to win the PL/FA cup/CL also. Point is we should try to win everything we are in, with the squad depth and quality we have. Sure it is lowest priority but it sucks to be knocked out at the first attempt.

We lost from West Ham second team. Not from Chelsea or Liverpool. It wasn't a matter of "prioritizing", it was inability to beat West Ham second string.

Yeah we have to beat City/pool to win the league and given a choice i would definitely play the first 11 against them in the PL and rest it against west ham in the league cup.

It certainly was prioritizing the other competitions over this one. If not we would have played the same team which won on the weekend against west ham. We did not and made 11 changes to our team. Our second string team played well but was unable to beat west ham. I am not too bothered about this as given a choice over reversing our results with the one on the weekend, I would choose losing against them in the league cup.
