To all the people shouting Conte: Why would you get a manager who has the exact same limitations as Ole. Good in the league, but shits the bed every time in the CL.

If we go for a new manager we either go for someone proven and charismatic as Zidane or a tactical mastermind who drills his side to perfection a la Rose or Ten Haag.

I would say Potter, but from what we've seen there is a huge difference in making a small team overachieve than a big team simply perform. See Moyes for a more in depth example.

I'd have Ole over Brendan F*cking Rodgers any god damn day.

Some of you are just deluded.

Crying about not winning stuff then hiring Brendan Rodgers

Be better with your manager ins.
Don't think Rogers is for united. But Rogers is far better manager than Ole and is done proven work with far less budget. His team play really good football, he has a knack of getting better out of players. In every aspect he is better than Ole. The only thing common between these two is both are bottlers, and that's why I don't want to see Rogers at united.

It was an awful appointment and I said that at the time too. We have been so bad hiring managers I actually fear we will end up with Rodgers next.
It’s not really about if you thought it was a good or bad appointment. But put it this way, if Utd had hired someone else, then Mourinho would have still ended up at another top club.

If United hadn’t hired Moyes, van Gaal or Solskjaer then they’d never be managing top Club teams IMO

For the record I’m still fully behind Solskjaer but realistic that he needs to win something this season

But we now have a proper structure - a DOF and a Technical Director too. It's just I think the higher ups at United are afraid of offending Ole and are walking on eggshells regarding this issue hence we have a situation where the manager has the same rank as the DOF and has a ridiculous veto on all transfer decisions. Something I think will change when we hire the next manager.
I don't think Murtough and Fletcher count as a proper structure.

Don‘t be daft. He hasn’t got the same limitations. He coaches players properly for a start and has a record of winning leagues with 3 different teams.

His record in Europe is not great but I think that’s an anomaly that will come good in time. His Juventus teams were great to watch but not ready for Europe. With Chelsea he massively overachieved in winning the league and to have done the same in Europe would have been exceptional. With Inter: They‘d done nothing in Europe for years and probably needed to win the league in Italy first to get ready for that.

United need someone who can update the coaching and demand better from the players. I think Conte could do that but I’d limit the fixed contract to 2 seasons with an optional extra.

But there are in those roles and in addition to several scouts. It's just that they have no power at all since Woodward is tiptoeing around Ole, this is why many wanted a DOF in place before Mourinho's permanent replacement so that the power dynamics aren't skewed midway into a manager's rein.

Whilst Murtough and Fletcher aren't established as the other guys they do have pedigree in football and they should be able to see the team's weaknesses and make long term plans to solve them. Bring a couple of scouts and analytics guys then you have the structure, it's not too complex.

Yesterday I witnessed just a second of awesomeness. When Brentford scored its 3rd over Liverpool, there was a shot of the Brentford manager, Thomas Frank, throwing a triumphant glance at Klopp, with an impish smile. At that moment I thought ; this is a world class coach in the making. Klopp returned that expression with a fixed smile. But it was a revelatory moment. It was an occasion that made me forget the defeat to Villa.

Not sure I'd trust Rogers at Utd, but it seems laughable to downplay him so massively as others are. Guess its the Liverpool connection? Can't be based on what he's achieved as a manager.

Genuinely wasn't particularly convinced before, but if we're bothered about having a discernable style, I'd go for Potter at Brighton.

How would you know Woodward is tiptoeing around Ole? You've literally just made that up.

As much as I like Potter, I just can't imagine him coming in to a club our size, with the players we have, and not being totally swamped by the entire experience. Maybe I'm being unfair and just jumping to a conclusion.

For me I'd be satisfied if the results reflect the squad he has. But that's probably winning something as you say.

He is not ideal, but still far better manager than Ole. At least he is a proven winner for multiple team, and his team does play as a unit, with sum of parts greater than individuals. I mean he has proven record too: 3 years with Juventus he won 3 Serie A title and overall 5 trophies, 2 years with Chelsea he won PL title and overall 2 trophies, 2 year with Inter he won a Serie A title.

Problem with Ole, we have given him 3 years, but he still relies heavily on individuals, he just doesn't have a system, and we don't really play as a team.

I don't mind Zidane though, or even ten Hag. We badly need someone to take us to the next level. Ole isn't the one.

Ole will definitely get this season unless things go awfully bad (eg we are out of top 4 race by March). If he goes, I would probably lean towards someone like Potter - a young manager with potential who could make another step here. The main concern is that we have already gone down that route once and it was the single biggest mistake which led us into our current position. However in the absence of suitable coaches with track record available (I don’t think Conte is the right choice, or that Zidane would accept the job) I would probably risk it again.

By reading and judging by the extent to which the club went to assure the public that Ole will always have a veto and Murtough won't be his superior. Which other club has ever employed a DOF and clipped his wings like that? Giving his subordinate a veto on his major decisions, Murtough is the guy who should making the long term plans for the football side, even deciding Ole's fate and his replacement but the club just made him a lame duck.

Literally no one wants Allegri. All people want is a coach with a proactive style (i.e. not Allegri) who can point to having built at least 1 successful team in a top league. Is that too crazy as a prerequisite at United for you?
Before he made a fool of them, allegri was the manager everyone wanted, because he guaranteed success

Allegri was never the cafe's preferred choice.

It was Poch and then Zidane the last time there was a poll on here.

I am guessing the PSG stint has made people realize Poch is a trophy bottler.

Personally I blame Rodgers for last season bottling it, we were been setup to not lose games instead of to win them, we thrashed WBA first half 3-0, then at FT he publically blasted the players for it. Next game we were back to been passive again. He started like a house on fire here, first 9 months or so played some lightning football, were Liverpool's main title contenders for a while but then after we got battered in two games by Man City and Liverpool, he changed up his approach and in my opinion hasn't really recovered since then in terms of performances but did to be fair to him still managed to get us another season mostly in top 4 before the second collapse, Somehow he maintained performances in cup games which ended up with us winning two trophies so am grateful to him, but he seems to have hit a ceiling in league.

This season he has been playing a massively out of form and probably injured player for most games, and been leaving out our top scorer from last season. So if you got him also be prepared for stubbornness on favourite players.
@Karlos PFC

So funny how you say irony is strong in me and then Leicester fans say this about your dream manager.
Ohh Mr kfc.

Irony is a two way thing!

Let’s nab Pep at the end of the season
Laughable to think he’d leave and stay in Manchester when it’s clear he wants to go back to Catalonia. Swear people just pick names out of the air. Reminds me of when Fergie lost a game at OT and a fan said to me, “let’s get Martin O’Neill while we have the chance.” We won the treble the following year

I’d favour Rose or Ten Haag. The former does prefer 4-3-3/ 4-4-2. Ten Haag and Potter are more flexible in their formation, changing it to suit the opposition. Ten Haag does appear to be a coaches coach form the comments I’ve read.

It depends what fans want.

I would prefer someone who can instill a system whereby we can play progressive attacking football that will suit us as a football club. But Conte and Ole are light years apart, in that the former is a great manager who wins league titles for fun, whether it's Italy or winning the premier league over Ppe and Klopp and Ole's league achievement is getting 2nd place when everyone else had a miserable season.

The problem with going for Potter is he is a big gamble. Which is fine. Nothing wrong with a brave decision like that per se. However we lack the proper structure at the club to support him. And we lack proper decision makers who you can have faith in to recognize if an appointment such as Potter is not working out and make the necessary change.
You could also see the scenario of hiring Potter, but demanding he keeps Carrick, McKenna et al, as its 'the Utd way'!

I can't imagine there are many fans of other clubs in the PL that would accept Ole as manager, never mind regarding him as better than Rodgers.

I would give Ten Haag a go and would tolerate a gamble on Potter even if ended being a gamble too far. My prerequisite for a manager has always been his ability imprint his vision on a team and implement it on the pitch.

We are simply too rich and too strong not to succeed if we get the on pitch stuff right. If we get someone with a tactical master plan and who can execute it whilst not being abrasive like Jose, Conte or LVG we will have done half the job. Our rebuild is only a couple of signings away from being complete so it won't be as risky as it was with Moyes and Van Gaal.

I personally wouldn’t countenance the abrasive Conte or Zidane style now. The success of newer style coaches like Potter/TH/Rose/ Nagelsman is the way forward for Utd imho
