We've done well to swing the ball across both sides and hold the width. But it's one of those where if they had Richarlison and DCL up front I doubt we'd be ahead here. Rondon is pretty shite so I don't feel threatened.

Yeah not gonna argue with this. Moments of absolute class and some shockingly good stuff pushing forward. Except for that back heal volley thing.
The difference between him and Dalot is night and day. So glad he's back I the first 11.

Greenwood for me. Looks different class everytime he has the ball

Yeah AWB or Mason no doubt, both have been very good so far.

    Fred was good that half.

Though I do find it funny that this is our Midfield to protect the back four but I'm reality it does by bypassed quite easily as well.

I’m in agreement with the criticism of Martial. We want to see competent finishing and successful take-ons, which of course has been lacking, but what’s hard to accept on any level is an absence of effort. The goals and assists can dry up from tome to time, but there’s just no excuse for just wandering around, watching the game go by you. Hopefully Tony has committed himself to putting in a serious effort today.
Serious effort complete. Could do with 1 more hopefully. :)

    Michael Owen style punditry there:

If man utd can keep a clean sheet theyll go onto win this game.

What match were these BT pundits watching? Everton should be going in ahead? Did they just not watch the point black free headers we had?

Teams are running straight through our so called double pivot. All the blocks were by back 4.
It's like playing with no DM. Might as well play 2 CMs there. Fred breaks the play only to break his own play a few seconds later. McTomminay channeling his inner Cleverley.

Michael Oliver allowing Everton players to rough up Greenwood is pissing me off.

That's my take as well. The biggest talent. Can't be benched.
My one concern is that we need to get him closer to goal. He's potentially really scary individually at the moment. He can create space and hold the ball in tight spaces. Imagine all that in addition to him using his shooting higher up the pitch.

Significant improvement over the last few weeks. Nicely done by Martial with the confident finish.

Apart from a few underhit passes in attack, we've played quite well. Quick in our decision making and willing to try and play one touch stuff. We can still be quicker with the ball when Fred or Scott have it, but they've tried to play it faster when they can.

The difference our starting fullbacks make to both attack and defense is astounding. Martial or Cavani should've scored with their heads, but that finish was classic Martial. Great work from Bruno and Greenwood for the setup.

The defense is still a bit shaky, due to Everton's pace on the wings it'll always be difficult to handle counters. Hopefully we spring one ourselves and put this game to bed. Really wish Rashford was out there.

I ask people to remember this performance from AWB.

He did this quite a bit last season and was showing continued improvement going forward.

He’s been motm so far. He IS capable of being good going forwards, has the attributes needed, just needs to keep working on it.

Great goal from Martial. Composed finish. Imagine how potent we’d be with a solid midfield holding type of player.

While some on here claim that Fred is the most defensively sound midfield option we have, he always emerges second best in midfield duels and rarely wins second balls. I do see occasional glimpses of brightness in his ball distribution but these moments are few and far between

    It's not defense's fault Fred & McTom can't create a barrier.
We created chances against them too. Feck me people talk like if we don't stop them 100%, it's a problem. Everton are on the same points as us for good reason.

He was. The usual complaints though. Lost a few 50/50s and misplaced a pass or two but who doesn’t? One thing I don’t understand is people saying his passing is safe and shite. He’s always forcing the ball through the gaps on either foot. Keeps us playing with zip. He’s got a mistake in him for sure though but I think that’s as much got to do with how open we play as anything else
It's one of the worst criticisms of Fred. He tries to progress the ball forward a decent amount. The stats show the same thing. People see what they want to see. Fred has his faults, but saying he never tries to progress the ball is a complete lie.

Fred passing awful once again, the man is not good enough for this midfield, every misplaced pass leads to a counter.

    Red Card for Casemiro!
Just before the goal was saying to myself that Bruno passing been off. Then lays on a perfectly weighted ball.

First time in a very long time have I seen us move the ball as quickly as have in the first half. McFred have been very good.

hope we kill it early in 2nd half. Don’t need another squeaky bum time.
Surely we can't be watching the same game?

McT let Doucoure beat him to 50-50s at least 3 times and forgot to mark him for his shot at the edge of our box. Fred let Gray run past him for one shot, and gave the ball away for another counter that Shaw blocked. We have no movement through the middle - our CBs keep passing around the midfield because Fred and McT aren't moving into good positions or having good body shape to receive the ball. Our double pivot has been the poorest element of that first half.

De gea? He's had 1 save to make and it was a shot from range?
Yeah, fair point. More a case of them getting way too many dangerous crosses in for my liking but having the peace of mind that David is back in god mode

Tidy, but he's given the ball away a few times and been quite slow at times. I'm comparing this to his better performances for us a couple of seasons ago and I think he's been poor in comparison.
Is that fair, though? This is a player that hasnt played much at all. Think if we take that into consideration, its been a good performance. As you said, hopefully the goal will give him that extra bit of confidence now. That said, doubt he'll get a run of games with the attacking options we have.

Have to give credit to Ole for using the squad well for this game. Although I would have gone with Sancho for Martial you cannot argue against him scoring now.

Yeah, I get that. But if he contributes here and there, its great for us. If not, we have the likes of Sancho, Lingard, Rashford (eventually) to come in.

Every goal will count for him and thus help United.
I agree. For years ive yearned for him to explode but it hasnt happened. It is his mental approach that lets him down and i am not sure that can change. Even coming off at halftime you want him to bloody smile. But no. Lets hope he rips it up second half.

Everton have had some good turnovers, for the most part this has been fairly routine though. The defence has been tested but, mostly, has looked comfortable dealing with it. We have compromised our attack to achieve that though, which has been in evidence. But if we get the result you have to say that the ends justifies the means.

We lose the ball too much in midfield, It's bringing constant pressure on defenders and then we're more susceptible to defensive mistakes.
