Can't believe we wasted 70m on this guy. Yeah yeah, give him 6 months and all that. Mark my words, we'd be struggling to sell him 3 years down the line.

Ole's burnt through a hell lot of cash to only make the team worse than last season. The manager is taking us behind and some are still defending him.
That bad?
How much would you say he's worth then? 30m? 25m? 40m? It's a deal, if you don't want him we'll take him.

He has played in a very structured Dortmund side. Now he is playing in a free for all side who seems to be just winging it. He is a right winger playing on the left.

I worry when Rashford is back, Sancho will become a bit part player. In Oles head, you have Rashford, Greenwood, Pogba, Martial, Sancho and Lingard playing for 2 positions.

We are so overstocked in certain areas it's unprofessional and just sheer mismanagement from the club.
I'm wondering if, in the odd game here and there, assuming we're sticking with a 4-2-3-1 throughout Ole's reign, he could play as the 10 when Bruno needs a break so we don't run him into the ground like last year.

I've heard a lot of people compare him to Hazard and, if Sancho can turn like Hazard; leaving his opponent bamboozled at a 180/360, it could give us a new dimension to our general play in trying to break teams down. That's if the Hazard comparisons I've heard are well founded, though.

That's a very good shout actually, he's comfortable in tight spaces and has a great pass in between the lines so it'd be a good place for him. Usually I'd want Pogba to be the back up there but he's looking very leggy as of late which isn't helping him. With CL and cup games and weekend games there's be plenty for both to play and as you say we really need to watch Bruno's minutes given he runs so much.

The one major criticism I had of Sancho prior to us signing him is that he struggled to beat players from a standing start at Dortmund, primarily because he's pretty slow. So a move more central could be of use to him, there it's more about quick feet in tight spaces which he's very good at, and good passing.

I share the concerns about Sancho's speed. He doesn't seem to be Mata like slow, but doesn't seem to have the electric speed to go past defenders. Probably needs more time to work out the pass and move combinations with the other players. But for that price tag I was expecting more.

He kept drifting inside with the ball and was pretty ineffective until Ole shouted "stay wide and take him on!", which then he did and beaten his man a few times.

He was electric when he came on! A small positive from the shambles that is our football lately.

If you take away the price tag he did pretty well(Young player in a new league and is a bit low on confidence) but I don't think it's too harsh to say you would expect a ton more from player that cost over £70 million.

Still plenty time left to find his feet here.

And our midfield is practically empty, but yet people will say Ole has done a good job building the squad:houllier:

His feet move so quickly but he's slow. I think any other player would have reached that ball by Fernandes. Sancho just doesn't seem fast.

I believe he will come good under the next manager, however I really do wish we hadn't signed him and spent the £73m on a couple of midfielders instead, or heck even just one. We wouldn't look as shambolic as we currently do at least.

It depends on what the club's motivation is. There's little doubt that the squad is seriously top heavy but also no reason to disbelieve that the club are still taking a longer term view to rebuilding the squad. That means signing the players they want when they can sign them, and not signing anybody if they can't get the right men. Of the players listed it's really only Rashford, Greenwood & Sancho that are likely to figure in the long term. Maybe Pogba. Martial and Lingard are squad players and would probably be sold if the right offers came in.

Take away the filler and we still have a core of very promising young talent that are the future. The majority of our spending over the next 2 summers will surely be on midfielders in the 21-26 age region and then this team has an entirely different feel about it.

But we’d still have the inept tactics game after game. We’d also have the same problems scoring goals and the “Ole in” crowd would be saying that not getting Sancho was the reason.

When my daughter wants new toys, we say well first let's sort through the old ones you don't play with anymore. Some of them we hope to sell, but if there isn't a buyer we sell them for less money to get rid and make the space.

That analogy is exactly the approach the club should be taking when it comes to Lingard and Martial, it doesn't serve the club to have too many players who are going to be unhappy and bad for the mood of the team.

We have allowed Pogba to reach the last year of his contract TWICE, that shouldn't be allowed to happen. I would rather have let him go for £30m this summer and gave Donny a chance.

On Donny if he can't get a minute, why the hell is he still here!?

The club has completely mismanaged the playing staff and Ole is a part of that.

To be fair, I'm not sure you can equate selling child's toys with £30m footballers. I agree with your fundamental idea of how we should approach our squad, but then that would have meant not signing Varane or Sancho because we couldn't shift Bailly and Martial. In this climate every single club has players that they aren't able to shift unless, or in some cases even if, they give them away for free.

When I’ve done the same procedure with the kids, they usually rediscover some old toy which make them forget about the want for new ones. It works pretty well when I don’t fancy funding endless plastic production and don’t necessesarily want my kids to have The Best Toys In The World at anyone time.

I guess the analogy between raising kids and running a sports club is a fairly limited one, unless this is why we still have Jesse Lingard around (and thanks for that!).

i for one am very happy with the aquisitions of Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Bruno, Cavani, Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo, so I’m not gonna throw my toys out of the pram yet.

Considering the amount of forward players we already had and the serious lack of options in midfield, got to say this is looking like a luxury purchase we could have done without.

Praise for him feels kind of forced, been largely underwhelming and I reckon everyone expected more at this point. Just some don’t want to come across as “slagging him off”.

A new manager would probably help, but I think that applies to most of our players, good or bad

I must honestly say that I have trouble processing and comprehending a large part of the posting that goes on in this thread. Some of it, I'm shocked to say much of it, it utterly, utterly bizarre. Don't know what to say about this.
Are really that many of you completely incapable of being just a little rational and observant, even just a little patient and supportive, and even just a little happy?

Yeah Sancho is for the future. Imagine the English connection upfront: Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood for Man Utd and England.

Feet up at home.
Does anyone remember Tierry Henry's first couple of months at Arsenal?

He didn't turn out too bad after that.

I remember saying something like this a few years ago.
“Imagine our back 4 for the next 10 years
Rafael, Smaling, Jones, Fabio”

Think of the most absolutely average person you know, and then remember that basically half of the world is stupider than them.

He is getting better and better every game, it's unfortunate this hasn't translated yet into goals and assists.

Once he starts scoring and assisting, he isn't going to stop.

Yep, that one where he lost his footing, I thought that was the moment. It's a lot to deal with, the price tag, pressure of United. I have no doubt it will work itself out, just a shame as we really needed him to hit the ground running with Martial out of form and Rashford injured.

Fabio and Rafael are not English though.

Shaw, Maguire, Jones and Wan Bissaka make up the English Core in defence.

While Sancho, Rashford and Greenwood are for attack. Lingard may also make it to the English team.

People keep saying he's a right winger playing out of position, but wasn't it shown that his stats were better off the left than the right or am I making that up?

Somehow I don't feel that position has much to do with things at the moment, it doesn't seem like it's causing him the issues. In fact I would say right wing is a harder position to come into because our right side is a bit of a wasteland.

It doesn't help when the whole team has been an uncoordinated mess either.

He'll be great in time, the press and oppo fans are just turning the screw because they're all wankers.

I'm delighted we signed him, and I've every confidence he'll come good. The guy is only 21 and he's already racked up over 20 England caps, and got 50 goals for Dortmund. He's clearly a special talent.

It's not helping him that our overall play this season has been disjointed. Hopefully after the international break, we can start playing more cohesive, fluid football and Sancho can put a little run together.
