Where the grass is greener.
As much as I enjoyed a bit of Utd DNA chat initially after the Jose toxic sludge period, I would be quite happy to never hear or read that phrase ever again.

I'm underwhelmed by the options for the next manager, it has nothing to do with Ole. He's unlikely to win anything with this team and so are any of them in my opinion.

Pinning your hopes on the next manager from that list doing a Tuchel in the CL is almost definitely doomed to fail. Did you watch them on Saturday night against Brentford? How they won that game I'll never know. Similar to most games I've seen of them this season, they've been lucky rather than good.
But that's life. If your CF isn't good enough to meet your ambitions you try to replace him with who you think may do so, even if a peak Suarez or RVN isn't available. There is always talent out there.

I don't buy the idea the club is now stable compared to the last several years. Pogba, Lingard, and Cavani will be gone by the end of the season, if we don't win something/qualify for the champions league then Ronaldo could go, the likes of VDB, Mata, Martial etc could be gone soon etc and the centre of midfield has not been invested in for 3 years so we're still playing Jose's signings Matic/Fred/Pogba.

If we have a bad season I could easily see this squad getting rebooted and starting again next year. We could realistically lose 5-6 players next season and need a whole new centre of midfield just to be competitive.

Find me a single City or Liverpool fan who'd swap Pep or Klopp for Zidane....

I will give you a clue.....there isn't one. Job done.
What's that got to do with anything? They're happy with their managers who have brought them trophies, why change?

This talk about waiting for the right man ffs. When is he going to appear exactly? Is there someone who fits and we are waiting for them to get sacked? If so, surely then they will have failed in their current job and won’t be good enough anyway.

Or are we waiting for someone to prove themselves through the ranks in a year or two? Can we wait that long?

Who is it? Have they been born yet?

I'd be happy to do it - but I'm going to buy Werner, and then I want to see this place.
What we need bro.
He uses 4231 in devastating fashion. He's in his supreme form now. If he slips away, i give up on United. How many good managers have slipped away?
Thank you dear Sir.

On topic though, Flick is not available, he's already 'slipped away', if you want to call it that.
He's never going to leave the German NT job 3 months, or a year, after taking it on, and certainly not for such a risky endeavour as the one you are proposing.
No chance.

No we should wait for the right man rather than just whoever is available.

Zidane and Conte will win nothing NOW. And I can be far more confident of that prediction than you can that they will.
Tuchel won after Lampard despite having a very inferior squad compared to ours. And Tuchel is an inferior manager to Conte and arguably Zidane.

He won the Italian league with fecking Alexis Sanchez, Darmian and Ashley Young. He also dominated with Chelsea. If Conte can't win the league, then no-one can, not even Pep or Klopp. His league track record is beyond excellent. Whether it is now or a year from now, he will definitely win the league. The problems with Conte are different, but we're stuck in a scenario where if we don't get him, we'll waste this squad regardless. Almost the entire squad we have is in their prime. If they don't win now, we're fecked.
Goes to show just how weak Serie A actually is.

Hansi Flick.

United should break all the bank, talk to him, convince him to take the job.
He created a Monster in bayern, even for the new coach it's easy now.
He manages the German NT, no way he moves away from that position

Zidane is underrated so much here. He's the obvious candidate for me.

Though I will support Ole as long as he is the United manager. I fully expect the team to beat Atalanta and Liverpool. You can call me deluded.

Conte is a disaster waiting to happen imo. Just does not fit.
Zidane is the obvious choice for me, and Luis Enrique could be interesting as well. Having said that, he might require a Barca DNA to be successful, which did not really work out for Spain's NT either.
Ten Haag could be an amazing move if it works out - big if.

The rest, nah.

Or maybe he is just a great manager who knows how to get the best out of the players he has? SAF won the PL with fecking Tom Cleverley and Buttner, you wouldn't call the PL shit, would you? Also, a pretty moot point since Conte was very successful in England regardless.

It'll be a horrible decision.
United/Ole built this squad/spend so much money not for Conte. A brilliant coach, mind you, but he does not fit the squad and the club as a whole.
People claiming that he would definitely win the EPL are deluded. You can't guarantee anything with so much competition. City/Liverpool/Chalsea are quite literally the best clubs in Europe who have proven winning squads.

Zidane would be great. Fits the players/squad, although he'll need some reinforcements in midfield of course.
Knows how to build the system around Ronaldo. Worked with Varane. Wanted to buy Pogba for years.
Contrary to what some people think or does not know, he's a great tactician. Flexible coach.
Great with young players.
Players will be in awe of him.

Anyone is somewhere doing something.
Nobody is at home waiting for United to come.
We have to make a move.

If we are waiting for managers to be free to sign them up then we are operating in a bubble , why do we not wait for free transfer players then.

We go for players playing for other clubs, why not a manager managing another team?

We cannot appoint a caretaker manager should there be complete madness in the next few games, which I believe will be the case. The Utd hierarchy need to really consider their next manager carefully, as the number of options currently available is few and far between, i.e. Conte, Zidane. Waiting until the end of the season will mostly likely throw up a few additional names, like Poch, who I believe will be sacked with Zidane being earmarked for the job.

United need a coach with concrete philosophy of playing. We don’t need a manager as it doesn’t work unless you have a very dominant personality like SAF, Pep etc.

When we appointed LVG, I initially thought he would be a great appointment teaching our lads how to play tactically...but I soon realised he was too long in the tooth, and his methods were outdated to the new wave of playing football, and not conducive to the way the English game is, I.e fast pace.

My list, I know is not realistic with my choices but I would still preserve with ( you cannot get something if you don’t ask attitude, especially if money is put in front of you).

1) Flick ( best out there that is not at a league club)
2) ten Haag ( I think he would be earmarked for the Liverpool job or City... used to be Peps assistant at Bayern)
3) Poch (proven in EPL..didn’t get the backing at Spurs...they want him and will get him next year....remember Levy didn’t give him any player the season before he got sacked...played really entertaining football for Spurs and led them to top finishes with a so / so squad....he can coach well and he bought wisely. There maybe a few duds in there but so did the great SAF.

The rest out there are not worthy at Utd...and I can’t see Utd competing for the league for another 10 years as it will be Re- build after rebuild.

The current situation reminds me of when Atkinson was in charge, a great bloke but could not take us to the next step....no coaching btw if you ask Gordon Strachan...we then got SAF....legend

Yeah but they would do a much better job than Ole.

Your post is literally saying that there's only 3 managers, in world football, that are semi-available that you would choose to replace Ole. Madness.

There is not a single PL club that would employ Ole when he's eventually sacked, not one.

I don't buy the stability argument either. I'm guessing the Glazers idea of stability is consistently making top 4 with a submissive manager that doesn't complain about anything. Sod the style of football and lack of silverware.

LVG won a Trophy with Rooney and a finished Carrick in midfield plus Blind/Smalling in defence. Jose won trophies with Fellaini, Herrera and the Chuckle Brothers as key players in his team. You're subconsciously judging us with a very low bar if you think a team with Ronaldo, Cavani, Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood, Bruno, Pogba, Varane, Maguire, Shaw etc can't summon a trophy even with our issues in midfield which will be sorted in January or the Summer which literally makes us a title challenging squad

The only players we'd need replacing are Ronaldo/Cavani and Pogba on top of a DM that's not unrealistic to finance over 2 windows. The rest are nothing more than squad players who barely even get 10 starts you don't need to spend £50-70m to replace such players especially with the likes of Elanga, Hannibal and Shoretire on the cusp of being first team players

So casually replace our main centre forwards, our most creative midfielder and sign a defensive midfielder to boot? You're wilding out if you think we can get that done in a couple of transfer windows for £50-70million, especially in this market. That won't even be enough for a Declan Rice.

You clearly haven't read the post properly if that's what you've got out of it.

It says you can replace the outgoing squad players for £50-70m.

It would only take one centre-forward to replace Cavani/Ronaldo, as by the time they've both left, Greenwood would hopefully have completed the transition to centre forward.

But we'd still need to replace those players, along with possibly Pogba, and sign a DM and possibly a RB. That to me sounds like we're heading for another rebuild after Ole will have wasted our best squad in years.

Yes, these two players were stalwarts at the club. Also very successful in England? Debateable.

I can tell you that Rogers will NEVER manage United. And if you suggested him, then wow. Your forum privileges should be taken off.
Nobody on the horizon that is young, promising and available.
Ten Hag is an interesting prospect. Young, unproven but has been playing some great footie.
Not sold on Conte, Zidane and the like. Louis Enrique wtf?
We should have never got this guy:

In case, you don't know him, this guy is:

Not that Rodgers would be in my top three choices or so, but your reasoning is a bit weak.

I don't think we need to replace all our leavers up front, we're way too top heavy. With so many of our players being sort of strikers (Rashford, Greenwood, etc) I would say we need a single true striker and then three other attackers for the squad - Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho and, say, Haaland would be fine for 3 spots. Along with at least one other fringe player (either an older backup or a youngster) then we're fine. Having like 7 players going for 3 spots like we do right now is just daft.

However I think midfield is a bigger job than just getting in a single DM. We need a DM for sure, but we also need to upgrade Fred and if VDB isnt an option for whatever reason, we need a proper backup for Bruno/replacement for Pogba. So we might actually need three midfielders. Not to mention a right back.

Plus, you can't assume a 100% hit rate on transfers, no manager achieves that. So yeah, its definitely a fair bit of work and not a simple swap job.

The question of next manager is a bit of a complicated question. I think the club has two serious options.

1. Conte. Go for short term success and to try get the best out of the team we currently have. Negatives are players like Sancho, Rashford and Greenwood may not get the best out of a Conte system. Positives are Ronaldo, Pogba, our CBs and Luke Shaw would thrive under a Conte system.

2. Ten Haag. Probably the opposite of Conte tbh in the players that would thrive and the players that would struggle. Sancho, Greenwood, DVB would probably benefit the most. While Ronaldo and Bruno would probable struggle.

Managers like Zidane/Potter/Rodgers I don't see as serious candidates. A lot of people are mentioning Zidane but I don't see him wanting to come here. I don't see Potter as someone with enough experience and I don't see the board signing another rookie manager especially straight after the Ole experience. I do rate Potter though he's got Brighton playing a lot better football than we are atm and he didn't need to sign a 100m centre midfielder to do it. Rodgers wouldn't be wanted cos of his Liverpool connections as the board will be wary to hire anyone that may upset the fans and get negative PR.

You've clearly misinterpreted my post. I said Cavani OR Ronaldo no chance both leave the same year. By the time both go McNeil or Hugill will likely be in the first team to back up any new CF alongside Greenwood and not all those transfers will necessarily cost £50-70m there's several CMs/DMs that will be free agents or have a year left on their deals alongside Midfielders like Palhinha/Tchouameni who will cost half of Rice's fee(there's a report saying we're looking at cheaper alternatives to Rice) it's very possible to get all 3 positions between £120-140m because there will still be some sales. We had a net spend of £100m in a "COVID market"

@giorno you are a prominent Madrid fan on here. What was the perception of Zidane and his tactics from your part/Madrid fans? Was he tactically astute and flexible? Or just another man management merchant?

He's only just joined the German national team. He left Bayern, a club in a far better position than us specifically because he wanted to join the national team. So he's already 'slipped away', you can give up on United now. I take your point that most other managers we'd want are out there managing other teams. But be somewhat realistic.
