How will Solskjær line up against Liverpool?

Dreading this. We've beaten them once in the league in the last 10 matches.

When I was checking that I noticed we had a great record against them throughout the 80s when they were dominating. Won 10, drew 11 and lost 4 in all comps.

Ole is Mr. Conservative. It will be his tried and tested favourites.

DDG
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
McTominay Fred
Greenwood Bruno Rashford
Ronaldo

He's smart enough to know an ultra defensive back 5 at home to Liverpool and still losing will turn the fans against him.

Unfortunately, I think he could sneak a result and buy himself a few more months in charge.

I doubt he’ll step away from the 4231 for this. The only question is will he put Rashford in and stick with Ronaldo.

DDG
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
McT Fred
Greenwood Bruno Pogba
Ronaldo
I’ve put Pogba in but really I think he’ll go for Rashford.

Ideally, I'd have liked to see:
De Gea
AWB Lindelof Varane Shaw
VDB Fred
Greenwood Bruno Rashford
Ronaldo/Cavani

Lindelof will do a better job here given the ball stays on the ground.

However, I imagine Solskjaer goes for:

De Gea
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
McTominay Fred
Greenwood Bruno Pogba
Martial

I have a weird feeling he'll play Martial. Pogba will stink up the place again because Liverpool press hard. We'll naturally grind out for a draw.

People have some hunch that United will get a result.

We are crap
We are crapper at home
We are in a serious slump of form and confidence
We have no midfield
Liverpool are humming
Manager at his lowest ebb

Some of you are in dreamland.

This match is damage limitation

In this game Matic will start. If he doesn't Pool may dictate the midfield.

MC and Fred is too attacky. We'll leave holes through the midfield.

Ronaldo and Pogba will be benched . Cavani and Rashford to start. Midfield picks by itself.

Rashford long balls over TAA is probably our main route to winning.

Keeping Salah quiet is very important, Shaw needs to be at his best.

Hope for an off day from Liverpool. If they're at their best I can't see us stopping them scoring.

As others have said, I can see us going three at the back with the same tactics as his first full season in charge against the big teams. Rashford will start but I’d be amazed if he dropped Ronaldo.

Incoming win then so.

With Martial / Lingard on the scoresheet.

There's always a chance....

A 37 year old against Liverpool who does not press is not the answer however I feel he gets the winner as a sub.

First of all, we need to match their energy, otherwise a change in formation doesn't matter.

Apart from that, I'd personally like to see us match them up and go with a 433.

Rashford Cavani Greenwood
Fred Matic McTominay
Shaw Maguire Lindelof Wan-Bissaka
De Gea
This is what he should play. However Ole won't have the stones to drop Ronaldo, Pogba and Bruno. Therefore he'll almost certainly go with:

The best chance United have is to go back to basics, with something like:

__________De Gea
AWB - Varane - Maguire - Shaw
____McTominay - Fred
Greenwood - Fernandes - Pogba
__________Ronaldo

Just go back to being a solid, hard to beat team that was strong against City last year.

Cavani gives you work rate from the front. Sit back and hit them on the counter.
Matic looks to be the only player based on recent form that gives the back 4 any sort of decent cover.
We have to setup slightly defensively against this Liverpool side.
I can see Lingard also getting a show. We need players who can get about. This is not a game for Pogba or Fred who's guaranteed a costly mistake for the team.

Maybe this is the game where he would rush Varane back from injury? Given how clueless he is, its not far from reality.

And yeah, definitely not VDB.

This is what we have been playing mostly this season. I have seen nothing but shit on stick football.

I'd play 5-4-1

Matic, Fred, McTominay, DvB, Telles in midfield.
Bruno is ten ahead of them with Ronaldo at the top.
Play Dalot and Shaw at full-back and instruct them to play high for width.

Dalot Bailly Maguire Lindelof Shaw
DVB Matic Fred Telles
Bruno
Ronaldo

Compact in the middle with three dedicated CM's. Don't bother setting up for a press, a waste of time with this coaching staff tbh. Sit in two banks of four, double up in wide areas to stop Salah etc. Hope we can get a jammy goal and get a point.

No way he drops Bruno. The guy has single handedly kept him in the job for like 2 years now.

I hope greater Manchester has a good crisis center if this is what's walking out on the pitch come Sunday.

This is the backs against the wall run that will typically save Ole. Form goes out of the window and we will get a draw or a win, and a decent run against decent opposition in next few matches playing counter attack.

Either that or we go into crisis

We won't play 3 at the back because Varane is injured and Bailly can't be relied on.

It'll be mcfred, with Rashford in. Post Cavani too, pushing Ronaldo wide.

I’d be amazed if he drops Ronaldo. Upsetting Ed and the Glazers’ latest marketing ploy will be a faster route to getting sacked than a bad result.

I’d really like to see Ronaldo and Cavani up front together, but v Liverpool is an unlikely time for experimental formations.

We have absolutely no hope against them, unless they have a really bad day at the office which for them is extremely rare.
A couple of seasons ago we were in a worse situation and a worser team. Liverpool were clear favourites and coming to OT with a 100% record. Utd should have won but for a late mistake.

To say we have no hope is ridiculous. Brentford showed these are not invincible. Can we all get behind the fecking manager and team, like everyone one at OT will be and support the team, rather than slagging it off and hoping we lose so OLE gets sacked. It’s fecking disgraceful on here.
