Didn’t he score one last year or in his first season and suddenly his confidence shot through the roof and he started playing really well.

Hopefully this is the same.
Yea he was crap as usual then scored against Newcastle & as per people forgot the dross he served up around it.

Every time I see him dragged out of position I fear the worst.
That first goal was dreadful. And so was the second.
Maguire is the captain and he should be the one organising the defence. Unfortunately he's so prone to mistakes.
He has to get himself together and demand more of himself and the rest of the back four. It's unacceptable that our captain is arguably at fault for the last 6 goals we've conceded.

Defensively abject but scored a crucial second goal
I got warned by the moderators here on Redcafe to not call him Magdire
I guess his PR team stretches far and wide

Crap for that second goal we conceded but it was a nice finish for his goal, hope he's getting back into it now, we'll need our defence on tip top form against Liverpool.

He has been rushed back from injury too soon
It will take him a few week to get up to speed

I get the creepies when I see Maguire Lindelof as a CB pairing - especially against teams that press. Strange that we are conceding a lot more recently from set pieces - Maguire was all over the place for their second goal and if he did not score, Atalanta would have had a penalty because Maguire was all over his player. Why we do zonal marking is perplexing

Was his injury a concussion? He seemed to react 2 seconds behind the action during the set piece. Other than that he wasn't too bad.

I think today was probably his worst performance I’ve seen and by seen I mean more that I didn’t see him. Always out of position having everyone else to do his defending for him, he was just awful. Cracking finish for his goal mind.

Claiming they got cheered and clapped off at half time? Did he have his headphones in already?
There will have been a lot clapping to raise the spirits while some booing would be heard. There's a duel and dual nature and chanting that goes on at OT.

Is he fit? He constantly looks like he's hobbling around. I know his gait isn't the best but the last two games it's looked especially bad. It's becoming a recurring theme under Ole to overplay players, Rashford and Shaw have played for significant periods with injuries, and Bruno barely got any rest over like 50 games. If he's not fully fit, let him recover ffs.

Of course he isnt fit. He barely got a rest last season and played half fit for England as well in the summer straight after the injury. Then new season and straight he goes in, also now after the injury. He is overplayed, and will suffer the consequences at some point in his thirties.

No I did see it and yeah he made massive howlers in it but this was 89 minutes of pure utter garbage. He made more mistakes positionally in this game that weren’t punished and made life extremely hard for his team mates.

I think he clearly lacks leadership skills especially for a club of our stature. I just wish Ole would see this because he’s clearly watching a different game to the performances we’re seeing every week. Just give the armband to Shaw or Ronaldo for thé love of god.

Good goal.

Hopefully his form picks up.

Because he's one of our most important players.

It would do you well to remember “constructive criticism” and secondly to not make digs at the moderating team

I can only presume he's not fully over his injury. He's been really good since we bought him, but the last two games have been poor from him (good goal aside).

Hopefully he is getting fitter and confidence from the goal helps him get back to normal.

The last three seasons he’s been poor first half of the season. It’s weird.
It's not that strange.

Shock horror some players can be slow starters and can take a run of games to find some kind of rhythm and form, especially after an injury.

For example in latter years under Fergie Michael Carrick was a notorious slow starter. September and October games completely passed him by...

Maguire started poorly last season but played his way into form and ended up having a great season and Euros.

Imo only an injury(ries) would disrupt a similar pattern occuring...

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Yes. It is weird that it takes a CB 19 games to look remotely competent. It was weird with Carrick too. We aren’t talking a run of games we’re talking half a sodding season. And another thing to add to the weirdness is he didn’t need a run of games at the euros after injury.

He was bad for both goals last night. Terrible positioning.
The first goal felt like Vardy's from Saturday was still in his head. He saw the danger of Vardy and then decided against covering him, then last night the danger wasn't the cut back and he got caught out. Made the wrong decision in both cases.

I think it's quite obvious that Harry Maguire is serving his suspended sentence in Mykonos.

We've got Joe Maguire from Gainsborough Trinity.

Varane coming in has had the opposite effect on Maguire that Telles did on Shaw.

He's so consistently out of form, erratic Bailly is a better option.

How is this constructive criticism?

Everyone gives players nicknames, why is Maguire free from this?

This is really a poor veiled threat from the moderating team to come out and talk like this.

Oh it’s not veiled at all

anyone that is gonna snipe at the mentors rather than take onboard the advice is free to find somewhere else to post that suits them better

so your choice

I am not Maguires biggest fan but I am certain that he has what it takes to turn it around. Most players have both a good and a bad part of the season and he have played much the last year (which could explain his lack of form).

If his bad form continues then we might have a problem but I would rather see it in a more positive way. With him back in form and paired with Varane we might have a good enough defense to atleast have a somewhat positive season.

He's our worst ever signing. £80m for a player who's 29 in a few months.

He's our captain and a big part in us having no standards. He's our centre-back and a huge part in us shipping goals non-stop.

His complete lack of speed and agility means that - no matter who we appoint as manager - we'll never be able to play a high line with him in it. His presence basically condemns us to playing in a very specific way defensively.

On a broader sense, imagine paying a world record fee for a defender who's been relegated 4 times - 3 of those with the worst goals conceded record in the league.

"My dogshit Lewis Dunk shall always play."

The worst ever individual defensive performance I can remember from anyone at this club. It's unfair that someone can perform so poorly in their job with no repercussions. That's our club captain, and that's an absolute disgrace.
