Malan really isn’t justifying his place in the side right now
Someone has to play an anchor role. He's earnt the right form wise over the last 2/3 years. But yeh, it's going to be a controversial selection throughout unless he gets early runs.

You have Buttler who played the perfect anchor innings today for these pitches. You can't afford someone to consistently chew up balls as Malan does. The IPL UAE leg has taught us how important it is to make the most of the powerplay.

England can't afford to carry both him and Morgan in the top 6.

Yeh I hear you but ultimately whatever top 6 England put out it will be high class and capable of posting anything.

Our bowling will be the issue in this tournament. We are a spinner short and no x factor quick without Jofra.

Nice preparation for India here. Good to see rohit suryakumar in form. Curious to see how they lineup against Pakistan. Dropping Ishan would be unfair.

Josh Little would be Eoin Morganed soon enough. Class, class bowler.

Standards of Associate Cricket is rising. But they are still seldom given much chances to play. Thankfully the T20WC in 2024 will be increased to 20 teams and do away entirely with this Group 1 format (meaning more opportunities for the lower ranked teams to play the bigger teams).

BD came into this WC with series wins against Aus and NZ for the first time in their history. But they did so by preparing really rank slow, turner pitches - which may be why their batsman are struggling so far in the WC.
Wait till USA enters the fray. They'll be fantastic.

How come out of curiosity?
Cos they've got a lot of out of favor Indian and Pakistani players and are fast tracking them for nationality in three years. They'll be ready in 2024. They have also got players like Corey Anderson, Dernbach and Umar Akmal who were decent at international point.

That'd be a decent starting point.

I meant fantastic in respect to other associate teams entering. I can see them being better than Lanka in next six-seven years.

Been a good run of warmups and the groups for the lower ranked teams.

Think this is going to be a great world cup.

SL comfortably through to the Super 12s thanks to the bowling. Hasaranga is such a beast of a T20 player. Top order batting rubbish as ever though.

So Ireland v Namibia is virtually a knockout game for 2nd spot.

And we'll find who goes through out of Scot/BD/Oman tomorrow in the other group.

Been enjoying most the games so far.

On that note, ICC is also (finally) pushing for Cricket to be an Olympic event starting from LA 2028.

Nepal is also another exciting team to look out for. Hope they make it in 2024WC or maybe the Asia cup in a couple of years.

Not quite. ICC has a rule that SL and BD will retain the seedings of A1 and B1 respectively should they progress. So if SL top Group A, and BD finish 2nd in Group B.. then BD (who will retain B1 seed) go to the group alongisde Ind/Pak/NZ etc.

I think the reasoning is to avoid a 'Super Group' like you mentioned.
so apparently this isn’t true and we will have Bangladesh & Sri Lanka in the same group. What a joke that group is

Yup. The ICC are a joke.. they've suddenly changed the rules mid tournament without explanation. There's a lot of confusion about it on twitter and I can imagine it being a logistical issue for Media teams/journos and maybe even fans.

Infact, the original rule is still on the ICC website and they are yet to remove it or provide an official clarification. I'm betting they won't.

Well.. Insane dogfight of a group coming up!

That's exactly the vibe I was expected from the song :D

Although those warm up games were just a tad concerning. But it is just warmups.

Wait so it's England, Aus, WI, SA, SL and Bangladesh all in the same group

We (SA) are going to finish bottom of the group.

Looks like it. Will be comfortably the most stacked group ever in WC history. Scotland and winner of Ireland v Namibia will both be in the other group.

Eng and WI are probably favourites to progress. SA have a quality bowling lineup.. if the batting clicks you never know!

T20 is way too unpredictable. Literally anyone from that group can progress just as much as anyone can finish dead last. I bet the fans of each team are saying they will probably finish bottom

Jesus, ridiculous setup.

I'd expect England to qualify. Could be anyone from the rest for the second spot.

You never know in T20 but I think India & England will top their groups and end up as finalists. I can’t trust which Pakistan will turn up but I’m hoping the experience of playing in UAE will give us the edge over NZ. No idea who finishes 2nd in group A - any one of them have a decent chance.

Could get a number of teams on similar points. I reckon NRR could be a huge factor in Group A!

I think England won’t make it out of the group. WI, Aus, India, Pak are my predictions and a India Wi final.

Group A going to be cracking though

I think so too. I don't think UAE pitches will play to England's strengths.

Not to discount NZ too much but winner of group B can be decided by the match on Sunday itself.

If Livingstone is out then I definitely think u lot would struggle to make it to semis.
Livingstone played against NZ couple of days ago in a warm up so he should be fine given he bowled as well.

Having said that I wouldn't be surprised to see England not make out of the group. They have too many players either missing or out of form.

Reckon it could be an India v Pakistan final. The former are the best side on paper and for these conditions and latter just know how to turn up for a tournament and I think they feel they have something to prove.

Surprised by how poor Netherlands have been in this group given that half of their squad have played county cricket.

If only the top order batting was even half-decent. The bowling looks so promising.

Think poor prep and match practice. The Dutch actually won the qualifier to get to this event back in 2019, but their main XI did not play a single game together since that time until their first warm up game last week (a massive 2ish year gap). This is partly because their main players rely on County contracts to make a living, and if it clashes with national team duty they can't get out of them.

Scotland could get two wins in that group. Likely to only be the one but it's open for a few of the minnows to have a good tournament in group B.

WI v Eng the two strongest sides in group A purely on paper, so very interesting they play first. Sounds like winning the toss is going to be huge in the late games.

Starc, Cummins & Hazelwood. All out pace from the Aussies.

Very surprised they decided to bowl first though.
