Sorry to derail the thread, but this is one thing about the pronunciation of African names by some Europeans which always irritates me. I don’t get why they always feel the need to emphasise on the beginning M or N of African names.

The worst is placing an apostrophe after the first letter (usually for M or N, followed by a consonant) to indicate that it must be emphasised.

In Mbappe’s example, the pronunciation is seamless without need to emphasise on the M or create a new syllable at the beginning which isn’t there.
I'm old enough to remember Peter Ndlovu getting his name absolutely butchered by commentators/pundits in different ways for about a decade.

With three consonants in succession I can only imagine the massacre.

I also remember Stephane Mbia correcting the journalists about the right pronunciation of his name during his presentation when he just signed for Marseille. Considering Marseille wasn’t his first club in France, I’m pretty sure his ear must have been hurting from stuff he heard previously before deciding to make the correction on a grand stage at his presentation to the press. What made it funnier to me was how he even went as far as literally stating “without apostrophe.”

@Amadaeus Explain yourself?
The front three was not clinical. Unlike here at United, where we can’t even create chances or build patterns of play, Pochettino has a problem where they are creating chances and playing brilliant football, but their front three or two(Messi isn’t really taking up goalscoring position) are so wasteful. If you just watch the game, you will understand what I mean.

I mean, it's probably just people being well-meaning but ignorant; it's nice to correct people and enlighten them as to the above like you did, rather than get 'irritated' by it. I have a name the pronunciation of which is not immediately evident for people if they have not seen the name before. I don't think people are being malicious when they try their best to say it/spell it.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

I didn’t watch the game but they had an Xg of 1.24 - lower than we had against Aston Villa even without the penalty…and didn’t have a single shot on target…

We're hardly playing brilliant football. Moments of brilliance yes because we have a lot of talents but the display since the beginning of the season is really poor, we still don't know what Pochettino is trying to achieve. Starting Di Maria wide on the right wing when Hakimi should be the one occupying this area was ridiculous.

I can understand that it's irritating but people aren't supposed to always know how the name is pronounced in the country of origin, especially since Mbappé is French. I'm pretty sure you mispronunce most names of portugese/Brazilian players as well.

after seeing that video, you wonder why they had 0 shots. Something is wrong with Mbappe and Neymar finishing l it is starting to become a meme, and it appears that they are doing it purposely. Moreover, xg stats are all over the place. They overlook some crucial moment at times, which make that stat hard to rely on as a basis to your argument.

It is what happens when you have a lot of talent. I don’t believe there was nothing wrong with the lineup for this opposition. The only problem was Mbappe and Neymar finishing.

It is a form of satirical humor, as players of those kind of ability shouldn’t be missing chances like that. You would expect shots like that from defenders or defensive midfielder, but from world class attackers, they should be doing much better. I don’t actually believe they are doing it on purpose, but question needs to be asked towards their finishing capabilities after that game.

it is a theme that has been present this season. I am surprised that since you are a psg fan, you have turned a blind eye to that. Neymar and Mbappe should be much more clinical. I bet if you have haland, he will be burying a lot of these chances.

I'm still scarred by that game Shoretire played for us and about 20 of the 90mins where about how to say his name.

So according to you Pochettino (despite starting 4 forward players with little trackback and 2 forward-leaning fullbacks) isn't the reason Paris are conceding so many big chances to Rennes.

He can only beat Rennes if his team scores at least 3 goals, and in order to achieve that this squad is not enough, he still needs another 150 M striker.

And he is a genius, the GOAT of managers?

He needs to replace his 200m attacker with a 150m striker for more balance up top. This game was an outlier because of poor finishing. The lineup poch put out would have beaten rennes if the Mbappe and neymar didn't have a bad day.

what is this penalty call for PSG?

Decided with VAR. First the pictures doesn't even show if it hits the hand and there was a clear foul from Icardi before.

It was a very generous penalty. Icardi deserved one earlier though, that might explain part of the decision.

It was a strict dumbass application of the rule and I personally hate that tbh. Refs are like robots when it comes to these handballs.
Worst part was how the VAR conveniently didn't show the ref 2 seconds earlier when Icardi made that foul.
That's straight up bent refereeing

What do you expect? PSG are a shambles and Poch appears to be being shown up for how good a coach he really is...

Monaco and Lyon have both agreed to play their February Ligue 1 fixture in Shanghai. LFP will now ask FIFA permission to play the game abroad.

Messi lost his aura there, that's for sure. He's just another player now.
