There's a lot of talk about De Gea being back in form this season. I think it's important to remember that he was back in form last season as well...for the first 1-2 months. He quickly fell away and had arguably his worst overall season, so I'm not going to feel confident in him until he's kept it up for quite a few more months now. And even then, he obviously does have significant limitations in his all-round game.
The Dave we have seen this season we have not seen for a few years. He's earned us quite a number of points. He's come back a different animal after this summer, though of course he hasn't magically turned into a box-commanding or ball-playing goalkeeper. But I don't think Henderson offers more, all things considered.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

People were saying the same after the first two months last season. A lot of people were saying things like "he's back", "he's risen to the challenge of Henderson", "back to being world class", etc. It wasn't until mid November that he fell away again.

He's maybe performing a tiny bit better this time but there's not much difference. Hopefully this time he can maintain it.

No surprises. Hopefully we'll get decent value.

Edit: Newcastle?

I never had the feeling he would be good enough for a top team. Can't really put my finger on why, but I guess its the normal english nationality hype that makes me sceptical.

Bye!

Fair play i guess for having ambition, but he is in line to eventually take over De Gea and personally feel like it would be nice if he had some patience and waited for his opportunity, but if not £50-70m please and thank you!

He's at best a side-grade to De Gea, better in certain aspects but way worse at shot stopping. He had his chance last season when Ole favored him but obviously didn't have the performances to force De Gea out of the #1 spot. Glad he wants to play and hope he goes somewhere to have a nice career.

Another loan would be pointless.
Not at all, he could easily go on loan for the next 5-6 years+ with a view to eventually taking over De Gea.

If it was me I'd happily bide my time for a chance to be Man Utd number 1. Very high chance if he leaves he'll never hit the same level of club again and may never win anything.

  There’s no way he’d be happy to come and go from loan moves for 5 or 6 years. He’ll want to establish himself as first choice somewhere especially as he’ll see his England squad place in jeopardy.

Come on Newcastle. You know you want it.

Hopefully him and his agent have some place already lined up if they're speaking out.

The loans he had at Sheffield United were very successful. If he leaves he may never get a big club again and never win anything. If he stays and goes on loans and bides his time he'll have a very good chance of being Man Utds number one for 10 years+ given the age gap between him and De Gea.

Each to their own though. Some would get all excited, think they are too big for their boots and blow their load at 5/10. I'd play the long game and go with the 10/10.

Err name one player who has gone on a 5 year loan at 24 and came back to be a success at the parent club.

Just doesn't happen mate, he had his shot, didn't take it and wants to leave, simple as.

It also financially makes zero sense to keep a player on 100k+ a week on a 6 year contract just to loan him out every season. We’re going to be paying a big chunk of each loan wage

Not necessarily. Every loan arrangement is different. Often you can get 100% wages plus a loan fee when loaning quality ready made players.

A goalkeeper doesn't need to fit into a system so makes plenty of sense for someone to pay full salary and a fee.

I hope that's £50m each!

OK Lingard with 6 months contract might only be £20-25m, but top class potential keepers are £70m+ these days so Hendo has to be somewhere close to that.

Your challenge is a fair one, but goalkeepers are an exception as can play till 40 and very rare to have two top draw keepers at a club at the same time, then for them to also have a big age gap.

It's going to be a pretty small niche in that category.

We'll struggle to get a decent fee due to that moronic contract we just gave him, but par for the course.

He's a good keeper but he's not top level. Not good enough for United. Flog him to Newcastle.

6 year contract for a backup keeper on 120k a week though... can imagine that will put off a lot of potential interest in him.
If he wants to leave, I doubt it will.

Yep, Henderson did job number 1.....got De Gea back in form. Now sell him for a mint.

Laters Deano! You didn't really think you were going to displace De Goat?
Why are so many people on this forum such weapons when it comes to academy players?

De Gea has a good 3-5 years left in him. That's a lot of time.

Also, I doubt it's 6 years fully guaranteed. Was there confirmation of that? It was probably a 4+1+1 or 4+2 or a 5+1 deal.

If he has indeed asked to leave, then I’m not entirely sure how to feel about it. It’s effectively an admission that he knows he won’t be number 1 at United since De Gea has rediscovered his form, which makes me question his hunger? I think 2 goalkeepers pushing each other all the way is very healthy as a football club, and too many big teams have huge drop offs when it comes to first and second choice.

On the other hand, I admire him for wanting to be an undisputed number 1 which he clearly thinks he can be. Being back up/cup games goalkeeper at a big club on his salary is a very comfortable life, so fair play to him for wanting more.

Mostly though, I am encouraged what this means for De Gea. Henderson is getting to spend more time with him than anyone and has a great perspective on where De Geas head is at, so the fact he wants to leave tells me the Spaniard has exactly the mentality we need him to have at the moment.

If Henderson does leave, I hope it’s not to Newcastle. I feel like that club is going to become a bit of a circus.

How many of you think he had it in him to be United no.1?
Never thought that he is even better than Romero, and could have not seen us going for him if he was in some other clubZ

I think he probably won’t be No. 1 in one of the big teams. Arsenal/Spurs in a few years, best case scenario

Send him out on loan - he just signed a 6 year deal and DDG wont be a top keeper in 3 seasons.
He is only 30 ffs. And also average De Gea is better than Henderson in best form.

Although, if true; respect to Henderson. He wants to play and is prepared to leave Man Utd instead waiting on De Gea to lose form. I guess Newcastle is his next destination so we can earn serious money on him.

I don't think Henderson will ever be a top class keeper. We should sell him for as much money as we can get and use that money to buy a MF in January

What world are you living in? £30 mil would be an incredible fee for him, doubt we would even get that tbh. £22-25 mil is more realistic.

We are playing with fire at this point IMO. De Gea’s form could drop back off a cliff at any point. Henderson at the very least should be getting the odd game to keep him from getting too itchy.
