Wouldn't be my first choice. But yes, I would. And I'd prefer him over Conte and Zidane

Certainly wouldn't be my first choice but levels above Ole.

If they decide its him ill get behind him as I have with all the other managers we've had, but I won't be listening to any post/pre match interviews as he talks about beautiful human beings.

He's done well with Leicester, but they're pretty much always bottling it under pressure during his tenure, just like his Liverpool team did as well.

There are options I'd much prefer out there.

Please no stop gap manager. No at least he is better than Ole bollox. Caretaker until we can sort out our first choice. And I don't believe Rodgers should be our first choice.

No. Failed to get top 4 two seasons running, even though he was in the top 4 longer than any other team that season yet still failed to qualify. Regularly gets beat in europe. Hes not as good as everyone thinks.
I tend to agree, with that if we go for him I think we shoot ourselves in the foot. Although he does get something out of mediocre players. Maybe he's ready for another top job. I don't like the guy though bit creepy . And fecking scribbling away on that pad ughhh.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Good manager, improvement on what we've got, but not sure he'd be my top choice. Then again, I have no idea who would be.
That's pretty much where I am as well. He'd be my first choice out of current managers in the English game (not counting the big three of course) but there are definite question marks over him. But there are question marks over every other option as well.

I mean yes over Ole, but he’d be like 6th on my list, at best. (behind Enrique, Ten Hag, Zidane, Conte…maybe Pochettino)

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
To be fair, I wouldn’t begrudge giving him another go. He was set up to fail following SAF but is doing an absolute fantastic job at WHU.
Said in jest but I was genuinely watching West Ham play 4-2-3-1 against Spurs watching soucek get into the box so often thinking “how does he get the balance so perfect” - they aren’t open at all yet play very quick, direct attacking football. How times have changed

Brendan > Ole, without doubt.

We're aiming higher so no, but I have no particular venom to spew at him. He's done very good work with different clubs which faced different challenges and was, if I recall correctly, only a slip away from the PL trophy.

The teeth and creepy smile is enough to say no.

Seriously though, don't think he's good enough.

He's a better manager than Ole but I don't like him. So no.

Yeah I would. I think he’s a huge upgrade on what we already have and would have us playing quality attacking football.

Is he my first choice? No

But from the supposedly ‘available’ coaches I think he’s right up there. How much it would cost to get him away from Leicester may be eye watering though.

No, just no.
Would rather we took some time over this next appointment, even if it means a caretaker for a bit.
Rodgers is a good manager but just weird and has the Liverpool connections

Nope, We deserve someone better. Rodgers is like another sideways pass. Ultimately he is not going to take us back to the top.

No, a 5th failure in a row starring us in the face. It would almost be like we were asking for it at that stage.

Probably deserves another go at a big job in truth. It's not like he completely floundered at Liverpool, overall he got very close.

Yes he's built up a habit of letting things slip but I think to overly emphasise that considering what he's achieving with a lesser squad than those around him is harsh. It's always going to be harder to maintain things with a smaller, lower quality squad.

However, I do not want us to be said club. I just don't think he'd sit right here.

So, with Solskjaer’s reign now seemingly deep into the ‘unsalvageable’ stage, and many managers around Europe touted as possibilities to take over, what does the Caf think about the prospect of Brendan Rodgers becoming the next permanent manager of Manchester United?

I freely admit that I’m a huge fan of his and really warmed to him with how he has repaired his reputation in the game and, more importantly, enhanced his CV since his sacking by Liverpool back in 2015. His Swansea and Liverpool teams played beautiful, if naive, football (I genuinely believe peak Rodgers’ Liverpool were prettier on the eye than peak Klopp’s Liverpool, playing scintillating football seemingly every week, no matter the opposition) and his body of work at Celtic looks more impressive by the day considering the state of the Glasgow club since his departure.

His feats at Leicester need no introduction to followers of the Premier League, with superb league finishes considering their budget constraints compared to those teams around them, and he’s added silverware to boot, with terrific wins at Wembley against Tuchel’s Chelsea and Guardiola’s City in the past six months. Regular wins against the traditional ‘top 6’ in the past 2.5 seasons, all the while playing brilliantly-coached, progressive football, Rodgers has really put his name forward as a genuine consideration for any of the Premier League’s elite clubs should they need a new manager any time soon.

There are question marks, of course: his Liverpool connections; his so-so record in Europe; his personality not being to everyone’s liking (personal opinion and not football-related, that, for me); his ability to manage a dressing-room full of superstars.

So, do you think he’d be able to a) bring his style of high-pressing, high-intensity football to this United squad, and b) be successful doing it?

P.S. Can any of the mods at a poll to the thread title? Ta.
No. Really not that impressed. Dont think his teams are well organized. Often lacking structure.

I also think his spell at Liverpool is very overrated, and Klopp made the difference between an average manager and a great one quite clear. Quite a few people state that he was a slip away from a title. A great manager would have won that title despite that slip.

After Souness, Hodgson and Dalgish (2nd spell) are the only managers performing worse than Rodgers at Liverpool; Evans, Houllier, Benitez all had higher point per game. This is a very good article about him at Live

Regarding Leicester they are a very well run club. Good management and recruitment policy. He benefit greatly from it. But I would not be surprised at all to see Leicester implode this season.

I'd take him over Conte. He's a bit of a twat but I reckon he's a better match with the current squad then Conte. Think he did pretty well with Liverpool tbh, even if he promised way more than he delivered. For everyone calling him a bottler: I'm really not sure that Leicester should be expecting to finish top four, even though they'd won the league the season before he took over. I reckon he's done a good job with them and reckon he deserves another shot at a big job. Again, he's a cringe nob but I also don't see who's available that's better (assuming Zidane and Mancini aren't gettable).

Pros:
  • Successfully won a one team league managing the one team in said one team league.
  • Mostly done alright with Leicester.
Cons:
  • Fecking blobfish-faced midget.
  • Talks and acts like David Brent.
  • Has THIS hanging in his own house.
  • Was not only Liverpool manager, but Liverpool's last fecking failed manager before they finally got it right.
  • Bottle merchant.
  • Envelopes, and not even Big Sam's brown kind.
Score: feck off/10.

United not sacking managers at the right time has cost us.

Chelsea manager would have been good for us, but we had signed Ole and we wouldn't let him go for a better manager, which is costing us.

Ed & the board keep making wrong decisions.

You’d be looking at around £18,000,000 to buy him out of Leicester. I’m not sure, for that sort of money he’d be the sort of Manager you’d accept?

Hes good enough to manage us, but his liverpool past probably puts him out of contention. Good manager though.

Nope. People are using the fact Ole isnt an elite manager as one of the reasons we should sack him, Rogers is clearly a much better manager but he isnt one of those elite managers that people are crying out for.

His Everton teams were very well-balanced too. Direct, great use of width (especially with peak Baines feeding Cahill and Fellaini) and defensively solid too.

The problem is that style of play has a ceiling, and it's exactly what Moyes has shown throughout his career - top 6 or 7 in the league, mid-60s points tallies, just as he got last season, in his best seasons at Everton ... and with us.
