United minus the Glazers
People overstate the importance of building on the progress made by Ole but the thing is the progress was absolutely minuscule in terms of actual title aspirations. We are potentially in a worse state now. We won the Europa with Jose.

Any manager who isn’t an ex United player should be given fair consideration

Look, I'm sorry but I wish people stop this "next Jose" nonsense. Current Conte is far better than the version of Mourinho we got.
Idk, I watched a lot of Inter and they bored me more often than not. Sitting back and hitting on the counter. We'll see I guess.

Conte is going to be back to the Jose days. We might win but there’s clearly no long term plan in place to out think our rivals and that’s the most annoying thing. New manager few hundred million and onto the next thing… Or is Conte our long term plan? This is how we want to play football now, back 5, two up front…

I hope it’s BS

Him not getting Lukaku was a pretty big blow. At the time I remember Lukaku being a cert to join Chelsea then we nipped in out of nowhere really and bought him. That probably didn’t go down well for Conte and he was stuck handling Diego Costa being a strop and having to settle Morata.

Didnt know about him wanting VVD, but I think he can forgiven for that not happening upon what we’re seeing now from VVD. Looking at their 2017 summer window, they bought a right load of shit with the exception of Rudiger who’s only recently started to look good.

I didn't say he's an attacking coach. I'm saying that he's far better than current Mourinho.

Conte does not use wingers and he has never before compromised on his tactics. We have many of them in the squad; Martial, Greenwood, Rashford, Diallo and Sancho, who we just bought for a lot of money. I do not see that our squad in any way fits in with Conte. We have always played with wingers. Conte will never do that.

I originally voted yes (weeks ago? I can’t remember voting on this thread to be honest! ) but I have stiffened my stance as today wore on. There’s no doubt Conte is an elite coach with an elite winner’s mentality - he should sort out our defensive frailties in two weeks, that’s how good he is on the training pitch.

My biggest concern, and it’s a huge one, is our playing style under him. I am, after FOUR pragmatic managerial appointments post-Ferguson, sick and tired of dull, bland, rigid football. I would love for us to go with a swashbuckling, progressive coach who’d add some panache to our football and sadly, I don’t see Conte being that man.

Pretty sure it was because Conte then got him at Inter where he stormed the league.
Stormed is a very strong word considering they finished behind a zombie like Juve under Sarry and barelly finished above Atalanta in his first season. In his title winning season he had the luxury of Juventus imploding and hiring Pirlo.

Conte has yet to win a title against a team that is at it's peak. Ie Liverpool and City right now

Conte is the best that is available but for the love of god just make it a 2 year deal.

All the Conte rumours are clearly coming from his camp. He wants the job.

Whether he gets it is another matter.

Sacking Ole 10 games into the season though. Thats brutal, even for Chelsea's standards. But it's the ruthlessness from the board most of you have been asking for.

They finished a single point behind a stronger Juve side with Lukaku making up the bulk of their summer investment in his first year there. They ran away with it once he got his players in

How would Conte's United lineup?
Something like this I guess:

..............................De Gea........................

................Varane...Maguire...Lindelof...........

Bissaka................................................Shaw
.................McTominay..Fred..........................

.................Bruno..............Pogba.................
............................Ronaldo.............................

............................GK...........................
..............CD.........CD..........CD..............

RWB...........................................LWB
................DCM.......DCM..................

................AM.........AM.....................
.......................ST..................................

A manager with an impressive, title winning pedigree doesn't fit anything at United?
No, the way he plays doesn’t fit the club or the players we have and frankly it’s an appointment that will leave us exactly where we were when Mourinho was here. Any new manager should come in to build upon the blocks put in place over the past couple of years, a radical change in style and character would be a terrible move.

I'm not so convinced Conte will come here and play a 3 back.

He might go with a 4 back.

The form from the end of last season was poor as well, plus he was heavily backed and we have gotten worse.

Besides, ole should have been sacked several times and was given time to fix issues, there was a common pattern emerging and you can't win or challenge with constant patchy form.

There’s 5 players there who won’t be making that starting 11. First off Rashford Bruno and Ronaldo will never start a game together as they shouldn’t. It’s not balanced.

The point I'm making is, despite Juve being on it's last legs he "still needed his players" to compete. So what happens when he has to face off against Prime Pep, Prime Klopp and Prime Tuchel. What happens when our board won't sign 100% of the players he demands?

This is a recipe for disaster waiting to happen. Just because Ole is bad doesn't mean we have to jump at the first available manager.

I have changed Rashford for Pogba. Conte would prefer him.

Telles will have a new leash of life under him, he's a perfect wingback for Conte.

Lindelof, Varane and Shaw is a good back three, although I wonder if Conte will be told to persist with Maguire due to price tag and captain status?

Wan Bissaka is doomed, Conte was hesitant to play Azpi at wingback so there's not a snowball in hells chance he'll see AWB as a fit there.

Bruno could well end up being to Conte what Chelsea's Mata was to Jose, it's hard to see where he fits into Conte's 3-4-3 unless he adapts to centre midfield but even then I think Antonio would favour Pogba and possibly even Van De Beek ahead of him.

Given many of your attackers like to play closer to goal inside forward roles suit them down to the ground. Only issue is he's got many to keep happy. I've got a feeling it will be Ronaldo, Cavani plus one other when he has his preferred line up out (although due to the age of them two he'll have to rotate a lot more than he would if they were at their peak).

I think you have a much more suitable squad for him than people think, unfortunately.
Could Bruno prove himself if he was prepared to play further back and support the midfield rather than a support ST, my gut feeling was that AWB would find himself surplus to requirements under Conte but hoping that Donny will at least be given some form of an opportunity to show what he can do.

Anything anti-Dipper
Conte will and can play other formations, but I'd imagine first thing he will do is sure up the backline. So whilst he has played 442 and even 424 before I see him coming in and playing 343. Question is just over who will play. My opinion is something like this:

De Gea

Varane Maguire Bailey/Lindlelof

Dalot Mctom Pogba Shaw

Sancho CR7 Rashford

Not so sure about the forward players, could see him maybe going 352, in which case Bruno goes into the 5 and Greenwood may start, however, I think he'll go 343 as that is what he used at Chelsea, he knows it works in the PL and he'll need to get points on the board quickly.

Oh don't get me wrong. I agree with the majority. Ole's time to go was a while ago. It just seems very un-United like to pull the trigger this early into the season. But it has to be done for this season not end up being a wasted season.

If i am the board i will definitely wait till Dec 2 to make a decision. Give OGS 4 more league games against Spurs, Chelsea, City and Arsenal to prove he can turn things around. Also spare the new coach from these fixtures.

Please no. I'm fed up of us changing direction every 3 years.

We need a progressive manager, not someone whose going to play Jesse Lingard at right wing back and sign a bunch of 30 year olds.
