The feck!!!! :

– Manchester United managed just four touches in the opposition box. That’s their lowest tally in any game since Opta started recording the statistics in 2008.

Surely the first time a a team has played Wednesday night CL then the early Saturday kickoff and not made a sub.

Here is another damning stat:

Sprints
Foden - 20
De Bruyne - 14

Fernandes - 4
Greenwood - 4

A culture of laziness had been bred at Manchester United. Ronaldo made the most with 14, but the rest were a joke. Almost every single Man City player had around 14 sprints or higher.

Another Stat.

I only ever stood up once in respect for the fallen soldiers since taking the seat prior to the game. That surely is a record.

A 36 year old making the most sprints... Man how I'd like for someone like Hasenhüttl to come in and let these lazy fecks run their asses off endlessly

Changed the mentality. It's a lot less "toxic". Which we all know is way more important than actually winning stuff. Smiling happy people, etc.
I know, remember when we had Sheringham and Cole, they absolutely hated each other. My God our form really suffered in those days because of it. ;)

It really was that bad wasn't it, it wasn't just a bad dream.

Dark day, might aswell not bothered playing and forfeiting the match. Would of been less embarrassing.

It was worse than Liverpool. The performance if not the result.
The performance definitely.

It doesn't seem like we will be anywhere near winning the Premiership. The only positive City getting 3 points is from yesterday is keeping another team along with Chelsea competing with the Scousers for the crown.

Another classic stat on MOTD tonight.

Having hired a set piece specialist coach last summer, Manchester United are the only team in the Premier League that has not yet scored from a set piece.

ffs
Probably hired from Wish.

Here's another stat for you, it look fewer than 10 seconds into the game for United to give back possession to City with a wayward pass.
It's like when we got a freekick around the halfway line and they immediately showed a quick replay of something that happened before, when the replay was over and they went back to the live broadcast De Bruyne had the ball right outside our box. I just started laughing.

I was getting annoyed that the replays were covering up the times we did have possession.

It is not laziness. This is what happens when you do not see the point, since you do not believe that the ball will be passed to you when you make the run.

It's got to be. That is another proof of Pep taking the piss, unintentionally perhaps. I imagine he didn't take players off cuz it was nothing more than a training session, so didn't need to give anyone a rest, not even KDB.

And also a group of players going in with no conviction, just going through the motions.

Sprints aren't only about attacking; it also about pressing and defending. This is a lazy culture because there is no expectation to try when we defend.

A lot of De Bruyne's, Foden's, Silva's sprints etc. were actually closing Manchester United players down, not when they were attacking and in possession.

This does not change the point I wanted to make. Namely, that this results from coaching, and the structure of the team, more than from a culture of laziness.

That is actually what I meant. The tactics and organisation are causing a laziness in the side; they just cannot be bothered because they know nothing will work. The longer it goes on, the more it will be instilled into the players. That will make the job the next manager all the harder.

I see. In that case I agree. At least the way to fix this is known.

It really was. Against the Scouse we tried to play on the front foot. Was it naive and a bit dumb considering you need a top drilled team to do this? Yes. But at least you could argue it was a brave approach.

Yesterday though all we did was try not to concede. At home.
We played with 7 defensive players. Saw nothing of the ball. Created feck all. And still conceded twice and should have lost by more had City taken their chances.

To top it all off City didn't seem to get out of the first gear. They never had to. Whereas you saw that Pool had a really really good game with everyone running their socks off, City hardly broke a sweat. We were dominated by a team that looked like they had a walk in the park after the 90 minutes.

Yet for some, Ronaldo is the problem

I'm not that old but this is the worst United side I've ever watched, worse than the side that lost consecutive games under LvG and the difference in player quality between those two sides is startling.
Disagree completely. For me its the gulf in quality of managers.

I applaud your ability to find a silver lining. That's impressive.

These stats and the pretty much constant discussion of them is bordering on public ridicule. Fully deserved I might add. It is that kind of thing that will force the board’s hand. They will be feeling the embarrassment. The manner of our defeats is shameful and we have become a laughing stock.

I honestly think I am the last person who would say any of the above if it wasn’t impossible to deny.

Is this humiliating capitulation all on Ole? What about the millionaire players themselves? Isn't there something called pride in any of them?

We are simply getting outplayed tactically every single game, even the ones that we somehow manage to win. You can have all the pride you want it will not help. 3 years in and we are just as clueless and disjointed group of individuals as we were. It's 100% down to non existent coaching.

It's not the fact of just losing to another team. It happens. It's part of the game. What's galling is lack of any visible effort to try to fight back. The stats quoted in the OP prove that.
This total lack of pride is not on the coach. There is something wrong with this current team.

Lack of a tactical plan is a cause for this. Essentially the players know it is useless if they make a run, as there is no cohesion in the team and no joint effort.

So the players have the choice of running around like useless headless chickens, or they can save their energy to be able to make a heroic effort when they get the ball.

This has nothing to do with pride, but with players looking for the best option for themselves and for the team.

My thoughts are that van Gaal had way worse players and as dreadful as that team was, they didn't look like conceding every single time the opposition attacked. For the quality of players we now have at our disposal, they way we're getting beat every week is completely unacceptable.
