Thread title should be "the average debate", not the "big debate", as both managers are quite average. (albeit both better options than the current one)
I'm amazed that either candidate has picked up any votes, given that the "someone else" option was included in the poll.

It's is incredible to me that 46 members of the Caf want Brendan "my biggest mentor is myself" Rodgers to be the next United manager - not just ahead of Pochettino, but also ahead of all other possible candidates. Absolute lunacy.

If I only had to choose between Poch and Rodgers I would choose Rodgers without a shadow of a doubt - I don't understand why Poch is rated so highly. I'd probably have Rodgers before Zidane and Ten Hag too, so basically Rodgers is my first choice. I'm not particularly happy about that but there is a complete lack of outstanding candidates. Particularly given the state we are in and the size of the job.

I think people just want a change and would accept anything, just like after Jose.

If I had to choose it would be Rodgers. Both are a bit meh but I dont get the hype about Poch, never got it.

Its the sort of progressive risk this club should be taking. He proven himself extremely adept in the CL, which is a high quality test of his credentials. Rodgers has proven to be a solid PL manager but has a track record of his teams bottling in the home straight. If we hire him expecting something different we are setting ourselves up for failure. He also has a terrible European record. Zidane’s record is imperious, and Poch has a much better CL record than Rodgers. Hence my order of preference.

At the end of the day every manager we bring in, except probably Klopp or Guardiola, has an element of risk.
I think one can say that even Pochettino has proven himself in the CL.Tottenham beat Ajax to reach the final after all…My order of preference would probably be-1)Pochettino,2)Zidane 3)Rodgers.
But since Zidane doesn’t want to coach a club in the PL,I guess the realistic options are Pochettino and Brendan.

Sadly, any manager will be at risk of utter failure due to incompetence in the upper management, lack of modernization within, and the owners primary concern - using the club as a personal ATM.

I'm pretty sure that there has been a significant amount of modernization done since 2013, the issue being that the club only started in 2014 and we haven't really had a top manager that is in his prime and has the character to contribute to the betterment of the club.
If you take Liverpool as an example, for all the praizes that we give them, they actually only worked correctly when Klopp joined them and gave them some useful input while he was also taking great care of the first team.I think people are way too enamoured with the doom and gloom. For the most part our current issues aren't structural, it's due to the manager's limitation on the training pitch and the limitations of the staff he picked.

I completely disagree with this.Blaming the Owners for our travails on the pitch isn’t going to cut much ice beyond a point.Just think about how this current manager has been backed by the owners…They have given him an 80 million quid CB…,A 55 million RB….They then splashed another 55 million on Bruno in January when the manager and the club needed help….This summer they signed Cristiano,Varane and Sancho!

Manunited is a club that is primed for success.Unfortunately we haven’t found the right manager since 2013…Moyes and Ole weren’t/aren’t good enough for the club….and LVG/Jose were great managers who were past their prime when they joined United. If we can find a manager who’s entering the peak of his career, then we can definitely become a champion team again…

Ten hags a massive risk.Never managed in one of the big leagues in Europe…Not sure if he can cut it in the PL….
Ten Hag is definitely good enough and probably the best possible option. But, he’s only good enough if the club is properly organized from top to bottom, like Ajax is. I think the chances are he’d get eaten up at United.

I always thought Conte was the best choice because he’d be a one man fix to the staggering multi-layered incompetence. Obviously, that could have seen him walk but he’d have improved things in the meantime.

Actually to be fair now the owners don’t know a thing about football and our board is bad mainly due to not sacking Ole but you do understand we have nearly spent a billion in the last few years right ? This isn’t 2010 anymore you can blame the owners and board for certain things but spending is not one of them

I do not see anywhere in my post that mentions the club does not spend.

You said use the club as a ATM? All owners will take money from a club that is making millions unless you have owners like City. The good thing to see is we our spending loads of money, when we weren’t spending due to the owners paying back there loan for buying the club that was a problem but not anymore

It's common knowledge the Glazers are far more concerned with siphoning as much funds as possible, more so than any other ownership has been accused of that I know of. The main gist of the post is that an organization's effectiveness and success starts at the top. If the Glazers were more concerned with sporting success it will radiate downward. Until that becomes their primary focus there will be many road bumps to sustained success for whoever is manager.

Agree. As good as he is in Holland. He is at the biggest club, with the most money, in a small league. Only one step up from say Celtic in the Scottish league.
I would even add Zidane as at RM he had aguably the best squad in europe at the time, in a mainly dominated 2 team league playing and financial wise. Here he would be up against a quality 3 and now with Newcastle as well, 4 clubs who could potentially better his player recruitment.
He won 2 La Ligas in 6 years, but would he be a success here working in a foreign country he has never lived or played in, dosnt speak English and the fact his agent said he doesnt fancy working in England?
Would he be looking for a quick way out if the France job came about after WC22?
All big issues to consider.

Out of the two, I would definitely choose Rodgers, as I don’t fancy Pochettino at all.
But since the poll had a third oprion my vote is there.

Yes I kinda agree on this. While owners have not been ideal, it cannot be said that they did not back the manager. Imagine what Klopp, Pep or Tuchel can do with this squad. But on the other hand, it is also due to their negligence that we have wasted so much money on a bloated squad, on bad manager appointments, low infrastructure investment. At least these are the 3 areas that all of us can agree on. I do not know what happens at the backend to say our structure are bad with regards to recruitment or outdated academy (I actually think our academy are still producing good young players).

Back on topic, if you put a gun to my head, I would say Poch just for the fact that he experienced managing big egos. But if there is no gun, I would prefer neither unless it is in a caretaker capacity.
