I've been up and down about him but he's been here long enough now for me to give an honest opinion and I must say the fact that Ole sanctioned an £80m deal for this guy will go down as one of the most shocking decisions this club has taken.

I don't think I've ever seen a more shambolic captain at this club in my lifetime.

The way he got sent off today says everything you need to know. A clumsy joke.

Keane is right. Van Der Vaart is right. An average player. Poor attitude. Awful captain. He should be leading by example. Far too often he is to one culpable for making stupid mistakes and giving away stupid goals.

He gets away relatively easy because he plays for England. It would be a lot worse if he was from somewhere else.
I maintain had Arsenal spent even £50mil on this guy & he were putting in this level of performance we’d be taking the p*ss out of them. His reputation on here has nothing to do with what he’s done on the pitch [cause we don’t concede less with him than we did before] but has everything to do with some posters getting churlish whenever your critique their faves.

He’s been terrible.

In hindsight, selling Smalling was the right decision because of the amount injuries he had after leaving the club.

The problem of course we kept another two players who are permanently injured and bought one who never looked good enough for a top team and was always a part of leaky defenses.
True in hindsight. I was questioning more of the thought behind it. And he could stay injury free at United though.

Kind of poetic that he has been central to Ole's damnation.
H was given the armand pretty much after he signed.

For a captain to throw his captain armband on the floor is damnable and disrespectful, when he was sent off

He finished Ole, we looked very likely to get a 2nd before his red card and I don't think a draw would've gotten Ole sacked.

To be fair, Ole continually put his eggs in Harry's Basket... Despite Harry constantly using that basket to smash up Lidl.

Ole made him a Manchester United player and captain, and Maguire repays that by guaranteeing him the sack. I hope Fletcher drops him against Villareal.

Was he this bad during his time at Leicester & Hull? I watched him a bit when he was at Leicester and watched most of his games here with United and England, I don't think he was ever this bad, he totally regressed and is playing as if he is championship level player or lower.

Maguire always has a brain fark in every game. He commit mistakes in almost every game if any team who come at us. I have never seen a so call world class defender as mistake prone as he is. Doesn't seems to get his act together. Best suited to a mid table team.

Sad to see his performances off late. It was always going to be hard living up to the 80 M price tag but he is certainly a better player than what he has showed this season (where he’s been atrocious). He looks extremely low on confidence. His worst run of form in his career.

Should be relieved of the captaincy by the new manager hopefully. Really hoping he gets his confidence back ASAP. We need him back to his best soon if we are to salvage anything from this season.

Harry is good at pushing away weak defenders and go on an offensive and score from a header.

The guy was already on a yellow for a clumsy tackle. He then gets passed the ball in his own box and proceeds to attempt to dribble past tom cleverley and absolutely melts it and then chops him down for yet another brick wall yellow. He then throws away the armband like some petulant child. This guy costed the club £80m.

I just can't get enough of watching this guy it's truly a spectacle.

Harry's top level has been exposed; unable to improve consistently with possession, passing, ball-decisions, defensive decisions especially in a high line.
As age and slowness set in, Harry's entire game seems to be unable to find the step-up required to be a consistent highest-level CB. His form for England is misleading; at United he is the Captain and bar a patch of promising form, his career here now that Ole has gone, hangs in the balance.
I dare say, the entirety of play we had under Ole gradually led to Ole's downfall as the team continuously had to adapt to Maguire's weaknesses

Can he transform his game to be consistently good at the highest levels over a full season? I think the odds are against him.

As a Captain though, his performances have been as inspiring and haphazard akin to a drunk-telephone-speaking-clock.
Fridge? His form has been Frozen.

I think it’s quite clear from this thread that he gets more stick at Utd captain than he would in another club and that’s just a fact. I mean the fact people are saying he’s “dislikable” despite being a nice guy and true professional says it all about how toxic this fan base can be when they decide they don’t like someone.
Shall we go through all of our modern Captains?
The reason Maguire gets "stick," is because the team plays poorly, he plays poorly and yet the fans cannot understand why he has the air of a lad who has reluctantly been forced to be Captain and has the demeanor of a doom-laden-dozy goth.

Harry was plastered everywhere as England's "Rock" and United's "LEADER," mountain captain supremo and defended to to the hilt when people constructively pointed out what he is lacking and needs to work on to reach historic and current elite CB levels.
If he hasn't performed as captain and CB, would you prefer his critics to believe the PR spin from his agents?

What has happened to his ball control? It’s been awful all season. Takes forever, invited pressure, poor control, loses the ball. Time and time again. I was a big fan of his last season, but now he is just so awful and then the red on top of that!?

To be fair to Harry, United could have won 3-2 instead of losing 4-1 if Harry had stayed on. This highlighted his sheer importance.

I want him out.

We should try and bin him off to Newcastle.

He's been the worst player in the league. Never mind defender.

Ole's tenure may have been temporarily saved by DVB who he neglected ever since he came here...

...and it all ended with his pet favorite getting sent off and ultimately costing us the game.

The levels of irony here is almost too poetic to be true.

Awful player. Relegated 4 times and he's Uniteds captain? Shambles

Should have been taken out of the team by Ole a few games ago. He's not a bad player, like most of our players at the moment he's low on confidence.

First touch of a rapis....

He's supposed to be a ball playing CB isn't he? That's why we paid £80m for him?

Pathetic performance again and supposedly captain material? No fight or confidence in his game and it spreads to the rest of the defence and the team. Lead by example, dont get sent off and high 5 the manager on the way down the tunnel ya muppet.
What does that even mean. He played far better than he has prior to his red card. I mean he stopped a certain

I despair for our scouting if we thought he was a ball playing centre half.

Watch what happens every week; strikers make bullet runs at him all the time because he is such a weak link. He is pressed intensely every single game. I guarantee opposition team talks are just "Just press him, he'll cough up 1 or 2 chances a game just with simple pressing."

Compare to Varane where attackers make token efforts to press him because he is actually comfortable on the ball.

I was wrong about Maguire, he not only exudes the aura of Beckenbauer, but he also has the ability on the ball to match

The first page of the thread has some real gems:

Also don't talk about his blunder or clip it (which aren't really blunders when they happen every game). If you do that you'll be labeled a toxic fake fan and as having an agenda by top reds such as @romufc @Regulus Arcturus Black
He was statistically top 3 CB's in the league last season and he was especially a rock from December to May. It's impossible for anyone to predict his shit form this season.

He's very confident. That's his problem.

Of all the shit I’ve seen this season, Maguire’s case is by far the most concerning. I’ve long reached the point, generally speaking, where I think it has become pointless appraising individual performances here. The amount of context that needs to be applied is too big, due to the fact that we are a terrible unit. Every poor performance almost comes with an excuse due to how difficult it actually is to have a good game for this Manchester United team. That said, it’s clear that Maguire’s is nothing to do with a lack of system but instead just being doubt out on an almost weekly basis.

Maguire is a decent player. Was he worth £80 million no clearly not, but he’s a good player and a big upgrade on what we had, he will be the least of our problems under a decent coach. Tuchel made worse players look far better!
Don't know how anyone can say Maguire is better than Smalling with a straight face. His distribution and first touch etc. (technique) might be superior, but outside of that, he is inferior to Smalling in every aspect from mental to physical.

It's not only that he's mistake prone during midst of action, he's clueless with basic awareness and positioning. For example, during Watford second goal, what kind of positioning was that? He was in no man land. Not initially marking the closest Watford player, and too far away to reactively intervene in any positive way. Right now, he's all round shocking with no redemption.
