This could be the best day for Donny as a Manchester Utd player. Gets a goal and puts in an excellent performance when he came on and now it could all be topped off with the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
This.

He vindicated himself and made his manager look clueless for continuously overlooking him

He deserves a run in the team, he always energises the team. Ole has totally mismanaged him

He was on fire when he came on, proper breath of fresh air. Will be gutted if he goes in January.
You would assume any competent manager we bring in will see value in what Van De Beek can bring to the team, especially compared to our other midfield options.

I think he will stay with the club until at least the summer and hopefully given a fair chance to prove himself

He’s a good player. It’s been obvious he’s a good player every time he plays. The way he’s been persistently slagged off in desperate attempts to justify an obviously bad decision from an out of his depth manager is one of the more annoying tropes of the season so far.

Crazy how ole persisted with mctom when donny was just sitting on the bench … really hope the new manager picks him and we see him go

It's weird how desparate fans on here have been to convince themselves and everyone else Ole is doing a great job.

It's extended beyond our players. At one point every manager who wasn't Ole was labelled a "hipster" and the threads we had for other managers like Nagelsman, Pochettino and Bielsa were bumped after every bad result they had in order to prove how good a job Ole was doing.

It's been the cult of Ole on redcafe for the last 3 years.

Superb. Scored, created at least 2 chances, put a crunching tackle in. Yes gave the ball away and yes did tire. However, so much better than Mcfred or either of those separately. Massive mis management from Ole

I cannot believe how bad Mctominay, Fred, Pogba and Matic have been that Ole and his supporters genuinely believed it wasn't worth giving Donny a run in the team. Even if he was shit, you don't actually lose anything. You'd just be going from shite to a different type of shite, there's literally no risk.

The best midfield display we've seen this season, and it came in a 4-1 loss.

Up until Maguire’s red it really looked like we’d turn it around and VDB and Sancho were a huge part of that.

I hope whoever comes next makes a point ofgiving a VDB a run in the team.

Liked his performance a lot. Good thinker and actually put in a shift too this time. Not that he's had many chances to do so beforehand obviously.

In addition to his standout performance, he showed more leadership that Maguire's ever shown. It was outrageous that he didn't get the start today, but Ole keeps putting out the same teams expecting different results.

I liked how he went into the tackle too

We looked like we would score more with him on and his positive progressive passing and linking with Sancho at times (until the red)

Hopefully this manager change happens soon enough to see if DVB does have a future here or not.

Ran the fecking show when he came on. Was like a peak Fabregas with his passing and his movement was exceptional, took charge and was pointing where he wanted the ball and tracked back constantly. How the hell can Ole justify not playing this guy?

We had Watford in trouble once he came on. Thought we were going to get something until Captain Fantastic did his thing.

People like to say we have a great squad but then listen to fans of Ole they'll tell you half the squad is shit and he's right to stick with the same 8-9 players, not rotate, and we'd be better off if half of the squad left. The justification from people on here that Ole was right not to bother making any changes or subs during the Europa League Final was bizarre.

I'm not gonna rewrite history and say he's been great every time he's played but he's definitely deserved more chances than he's had.

Good to see him have a good game, impressed me at Ajax before he signed for us, but really has looked out his depth and not taken his chances to impress in games he’s played, but equally hasn’t been given a run in the team to get his confidence up or get used to a different league, hopefully he kicks on from here and gets more chances to show us the player he was at Ajax.

Single handedly created or scored 3 chances and he played only 45 mins. Half of it was with 9 men. Just for this alone, Ole should be sacked. Criminal!

There was a point when he was asking team to make a fecking run. Ronaldo did it after seeing that .story of our team !

Nice detail. Also shows his standing in the squad that he can make Ronaldo do something.

I hope our next manager can get the best out of him, if we can convince him to stay after this calendar year that is.

Great match today. It took some time:DActually first match he has proven something and showed his potential in the United shirt.

He’s been shockingly bad until know, so I don’t think anyone could say “told you so”.

VDB played very well in 45 mins cameo. If Ole is not sack, he will start playing so he has avoid being sack. What is VDB doing in training which Ole refuse to pick him, I will never understand. VDB alone provide Ronaldo 2-3 half chances. I think Ronaldo will personally walk in Ole asking the rational of his omission. Hope the new manager comes in and he can convince VDB to stay. Ole out!!!

I had predicted him to have a monster of a season ala Herrera (Mourinho's second season)/Fred (under Ole)...well he's still got time under our new manager Ten Hag...?

It'll be such a great comeback story. As romantic as the Ajax farewell/love-fest video.

This is why I don't want Carrick involved in any interim role. He'd probably bench him for McFred again.

I shouldnt laugh but can't help it. Ole spent the week saying how good Donny is in training only to bench him. Then when he comes on shows up the players Ole has been persisting with. Honestly watching Donny play probing balls and trying to win the ball back was something we've not seen from a midfielder since Herrera
