As long as he's far away from United at this point I personally couldn't care less

Well he was never going anywhere before 2022 so what difference does it make. The only difference is the payout he'll get after Qatar.

At least there's no chance of him taking over here now.

I'm not keen on him but a semi-final and final in his first two tournaments is a very good return and more than any of us thought possible. I don't know if we'll ever win anything at International Level but we're undeniably a competitor now.

Don’t watch England outside the major tournaments anyway. Just glad he won’t go for the Utd job

Thank feck, we are one of the few big clubs stupid enough to probably offer him a contract and some idiot on the board was probably thinking about it as we speak. Let's hope this shuts any remote possibility.

More money for him even though he is going to get sacked after the world cup.

England's own Ole. Sucks for them I guess, delighted it means we're hopefully not going to be stupid enough to appoint him now.

Best news I've had this weekend.

Surely at the very least that's that donkey out of the running for United job

One for the dodged a bullet thread.

Hope England fans enjoy the 721 formation for the next 3 years.

Why not wait until after the World Cup? If we bomb out in the group stage where do we go from there?

Great. Look even more stupid when we finish bottom of the group in Qatar then. Why can't they just wait until after the tournament? England always do this, did the same with Hodgson before euro 16.

Lovely. Now just need Brenton to feck off and I pretty much don't mind any of the names in the frame for the United job.

Will he make the same mistake as OGS, try to play high up the pitch and press without knowing how to coach it?

If England continue in their sit deep counter attacking style, should do alright at the WC. Managed to take Italy to pens in Euros final with 34% possession and half the number of passes.

Southgate very limited manager but honestly there aren't many better English choices.

Expected.. I hope the next manager of the Three Lions squad will be Lampard or Potter. It's so hard to watch Southgate's football(

Brilliant news for United fans, not so for England fans.
Why? He's been, basically, the best England manager for years. Closest the national team has come to winning stuff, and generally got people caring again.

Exactly

I really don’t get some peoples views on this. You don’t have the opportunity to win World Cups or Euros unless your in the final…..for the first time in 9 million years….we had an opportunity to win, he put us in that situation, we didn’t end up winning the final, but we will likely get that opportunity again imo under Southgate. That’s better than zero opportunities like the last several decades.

Yet we are unlucky to have him.

Well, Italy played him off the field with inferior squad in what was practically a home game. In which England had lead and control. Kind of like what Croatia did to him too three years earlier.

He doesn't have developed style of football, it's pretty much hoofball.

Literally every coach who thinks 1:0 is enough is backwards thinking, and that's exactly what Southgate thinks.

No team in particular.

There isn't a player as skilled as Owen and Scholes in the current England squad.

What most talented generation are you talking about?
England look better, as they are more cohesive now than the past english generations, but in terms of talent, they don't have any talented player as Scholes, peak Owen, or Beckham.

Is Maguire better than Rio? I don't think so

England starter Xl isn't better than Italy, i would take italian goalkeeper, defenders and midfield over english ones...what England has over Italy is better strikers...and the english midfield struggles to create chances when they are pressed.

Southgate has done an OK job.
