Heaton and Henderson on the bench, maybe thinking of doing like Stuart Pearce with David James.

Overall not a bad line up.

Guess it gives us all another chance to marvel at how effortlessly Martial strolls around the place doing fcuk all.

I'm amazed that he's starting. Clearly wasn't fit vs Watford and was utterly abysmal.
Maybe because the obvious replacement (Matic) can't play 3 games a week and Pogba is injured.

Bruno also hadn't had a single shot on target in 12 games apparently. Not sure how true this is but if it is he deserves benching.

Our midfield options are dire. Truly truly dire.

This is pretty much how I think we'll progress with the ball.

    1. Martial will drop deep and slightly inside to leave space for Telles on the left to overlap and to combine with him.
    2. Sancho on the right will do the oppose to Martial. He'll hold width and AWB will tuck in and stay conservative/deeper to not block VdBs channel.
    3. VdB will play more as a proper 10, or a 'free 8', more as a midfield three with McFred, rather than as a second striker as Ole played him. He'll probably have some freedom to hit the channel between Ronny and Sancho (esp. if Sancho stays wide).
    4. Think Fred will stay in DM, McTominay will be more advanced. Standard '8' position.
    5. Maguire will carry the ball past Fred at times if Fred is marked. McTominay playing a little higher will give him some space to run into.
    6. Ronaldo will do Ronaldo shit. Siuuuuuu!

    I like that!

That is exactly the problem. How good have they been at “defending” lately?
Agreed we have been leaking goals left, right and center, so here is hoping that there will be less distance between attack, midfield and defense. We will stay compact, trying to play through the lines, dribbling and quick short passes, instead of sitting extremely deep and trying to counter attack. Collective attacks and collective defending as a unit is what I am hoping for. Less turnovers should help defend better as well.

Good to see Shaw and Bruno dropped. This will only help them regain their form. Would’ve liked VDB alongside Scot in midfield with maybe Lingard in front of them. Let’s see how this goes

He hasn't got the legs anymore
And Mctomminey who just jogs around hiding behind players has? I repeat again, have you actually paid attention to Mctomminay's perfomances this year? It's like with playing with 10 players, he is hardly involved even in physical duels, let alone anything that involves playing decent football.

I need to go out shortly and will miss the game, which is probably a good thing for my health.

I can't believe it, they've stuck with McFred again. Ole's coaches should have gone with him; Ole didn't coach the team. Put the Under 23s manager in for tonight then sort out a manager; leaving Ole's useless coaching team in place changes nothing.

What an embarrassing shambles the people running this club are. They can't even sack someone properly.

At least VDB, Telles and Martial are getting a chance. God knows how the game will go; we are a rudderless ship.

It's slim pickings, that's for sure.

No idea who the manager will be by the time January comes around, but hopefully the new football/technical team (Murtough & Fletcher) have started tapping up central midfielders.

Well, he picked McFred again. It was to be expected as I think the reason why Ole chose McFred was Carrick.
DVDB is in there, though. So that's a plus.
    Basically, he replaced:
    • Bruno with VDB
    • Rashford with Martial

    Are you being serious?

After Liverpool 5-0 and City 2-0 any sane club would have interim replacement lined up, terms agreed and ready to go short of signing. Spurs got Conte, permanent manager, immediately after 3-0 defeat with us, single horrible game, we had series of horrible games and didn't have even interim lined-up?

How can you possibly excuse this crap?
Correct. It's an unforgivable circus yet again from the Glazers and Woodward. Bastards.

I'd have liked this line up better if it was not against Villarreal who are just going to sit back and soak up. That midfield is more balanced but is also lacking in firepower. Too many "safe" playing players out there who'd keep engaging in short exchanges. Bruno should have started just to make it more dynamic with his creative passes though I'd like for him to be dropped in bigger games against the likes of Chelsea wherein we may want more control on the ball.

Am I the only one on here who thinks that Martial has been mostly rubbish for UTD for quite a long time now?
You are not the only one - I think he has been dreadful and should be transfer listed.
He is a good bench option, though.

Mates, I've been having such a bad day at work and normally when that happens, the team does even worse. Hope life and Martial prove me wrong.

I would like to think that Carrick playing a 4-3-3 would be telling scott you cant just sit there and hide next to your holding partner like he does many a time when they play that 4-2-3-1/4-2-4 abomination. You've either got to put in a real shift as a DM if hes the deepest of the three, or if hes going to be on the right side of the midfield to actually fulfill his box to box role

or maybe it's just the typical 4-2-3-1 again and he'll be shit.

They didn't sit back and soak up at OT. No way they're doing it at home.

Hoping its 433 at least, firm up the midfield and we should stand a decent chance.

Hargreaves on BT still reckons Lingard deserves a chance.... seriously don't understand how anyone can still be of this opinion.

On paper those 4 changes does not make United stronger but its about attitude and application of the players.

If some sort of a response is got United may get a result tonight, something like a 2-2 however play like they did against Watford and it will be another embarrassing defeat.
Its also about cohesion. Nobody really knows the true level of some of our players right now. A change in system is probably more important than the personnel.

    Fair enough.

I just want to ask you, do you think Scott's performances over the last year or so warrant him a starting place in a top10 premierleague side? He is not starting for Scotland in midfield, so what makes him a Manchester United midfield starter?
