Good partnership today with Lindelof.

Obviously he always has the big physical attributes - and it does make such a difference having two mobile, agile centre-backs - but I was most impressed today with his positional sense in dealing with Chelsea's (many) crosses.

It's a big weapon for Chelsea: wing-back overlaps followed by a pull-back...but both Bailly and Lindelof dealt with them really comfortably all game.

This is why it was ridiculous for Ole to play Maguire in the Leicester game. Bailly is clearly capable of coming into the team and doing a job which is what he did today.

Good performance - and we all know he’s capable of those. Just need to him to continue having good performances and not lead to injuries, or errors if he gets chances in the upcoming games

solid today, just that one time where he wrestled the ball off Mount but got dispossessed by Mount right after, other than that he played well today

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
he is superb today! Why has he always been deployed at RCB before? He is excellent at LCB.
Yes, it was interesting to see him play on the left today. Previously he's always been on the right and his partner is the one who has moved over to the left (not 100% certain with Smalling, but the others definitely did). Was good to see him do quite well there.

I don't get, all of sudden great vs strong team.

Such a random, unpredictable (probably for himself too) player.
Nah not all of a sudden. He's a really good defender except he always gets injured and has a massive clusterfeck around the corner. It's always been like that. So it just depends which Bailly is going to show up.

It's hard to judge a defenders performance in such a defensive set-up as today.

Was good today and seems to always do well against Chelsea. He’s miles better than Harry, without being an elite class defender himself.

I've always liked Bailly, he's capable of a level that is way better than any other defender we have, but you always feel he's just one moment away from a massive mistake, or another injury. He deserves to keep his place in the team until the inevitable happens again.

He'll always have some heart attack moments but I can guarantee opposing strikers will not like playing against Bailly. The guy is an old school defender and deserves a run of games.

Massive upgrade on Maguire, who needs to be sat down for a while to allow him to think seriously about what it means to be a Manchester United player.

Deeney praised the 23-year-old’s physicality and menacing presence while talking on BBC 5 Live about Arsenal’s problems.

Watford’s captain said: “When you play against Arsenal there’s no fear.

“When you play against a tough centre-half, like for Man United, [Eric] Bailly, you think ‘oh God, he’s going to give me a whack’

“Arsenal don’t have anyone that gives you that fear.”

Anonymous in first half but his second was one the best since his first season. It looked to me as he has matured and with one or two exceptions he didn’t go on those random one man missions that never end up well. Chose Fred for MotM but Bailly was not far behind.

It makes sense to me. His biggest weaknesses have always been his decision making and positioning. Playing him in a high line is suicide as he will push high at the wrong time, leave his position, get overplayed, etc. Against strong teams when we play a low line with a defensive midfield, he does not need to take those decisions and the positioning becomes easier.

Had a good game but its different playing with three DM's in front of you compared to how we set up and played against City, Liverpool, Watford etc

A proper coach could make him into an exceptional player. Didn't Guardiola want him at City?

He has some brainfarts in him and he is obviously injured a lot, but when he plays for he is almost always class. It was always baffling to me to see him being benched for Maguire who is an absolute donkey.

Tbf Maguire has had a massive mistake just about every game this season (and more than one at times). I expect all of our defenders to have blunders these days so I'd rather have the ones capable of also being brave and proactive.

Bailly could be a beast if Rangnick can iron out the defects in his game by making him slightly less rash. It's his craziness that leads to the constant injuries more than his brittle body I think.

I don’t agree. He’s not capable of a level that is way better than Maguire, Lindelof or Varane. I’ve seen all three of them playing at higher level than I’ve ever seen Bailly.

what about playing him as RB once Maguire/Varane are back, he could do better than Bissaka ?

I used to think he'd make a decent right back until he was played there at PSG away a few years ago. He was so outrageously bad he had to be hooked after only half an hour. Made Dalot look like Denis Irwin in comparison his defending was so bad.

Only if a proper coach could perform medical miracles and keep him fit for an entire season.

The pace would certainly be ridiculous.

We could play the highest line ever, like Marseille used to do in the early nineties.

Too bad our fullbacks are dopes who'll destroy the line.

That could really work if Rangnick can access Baillys hard drive and norton anti-virus the shit out of his crazy patient off his meds like tendencies.

With a manager who can keep him calm on the field (consistently) he is a passable backup player. Does such a manager exist though?
