FSW about to serve up 3 points on a silver platter. Wonder how 'pool fans feel about putting Rafa on the dole.

Bit like Poch at PSG, a manager that doesn't want to be there for a fan base that doesn't really want him. I'm sure with the developments at Newcastle, he probably in hindsight regrets taking the Everton job.
What makes you think he doesn't want to be there? He wanted the Everton job for a while.

The second coming according to Newcastle fans.
Absolutely baffling the hero worship there, not realising the only reason he was managing a Newcastle team going down is that he's completely past it. It arguably helps him for people to joke that tonight was deliberate rather than him being a not very good manager leading a very ordinary team.

The bizzare thing is that it's juxtaposed with Bruce, who they blame for everything, despite Bruce keeping them up with a similar points ratio (vs Rafa who got relegated) and playing a similarly crap brand of football.

Maybe some Newcastle fans have deluded themselves into thinking that their club is Liverpool, and not in fact Newcastle? Would make some of the adoration understandable

Yeah absolutely, Bruce and Benitez have an almost identical record at Newcastle, they scored more under Bruce actually.

Wasn't meant to be, it was always going to end in tears I'm just surprised it's happened to quickly!

They're in danger of being in a relegation scrap. It's about more than the manager with them though. A lot of the anger seems to be directed at the board.

If Potter is open to leaving Brighton right now, Everton should go for him.
Potter is better off at Brighton though. Better team and it’s not like Everton are going to have substantial budget to improve squad anytime soon. Everton have like 4 good players.

Nice guy but it is looking like it's a case of the modern game passing him by. Bit like Jose. They were at top of their game at the same time.

Makes fergies achievement all the more great that he lasted more than two decades at the top.

Yeah I get that feeling about Rafa as well. He's not able to compete at a higher level as a manager any more. He'd suit a mid table La Liga side to be honest. Maybe someone he can get punching above their weight.

Rafa took over a team on a one way ticket to relegation and turned them into a solid mid table team.

Bruce took a solid mid table team, added the likes of Wilson, Willock and ASM and left them on a one way ticket to relegation.

I'm not the biggest Rafa fan but the fact their "records a similar" should be an embarrassment for Bruce given comparable resources and what they inherited.

That is true, the key difference between him and Jose however is he's actually getting jobs that reflect said decline (Everton are a big club but they've not been a top/topish team since Martinez's first season).

It's happened to all the top managers of the 00s really. Hiddink and Wenger were parody's at the end too and even Ancelotti despite getting the Real job again is a shadow of what he was.

Managers should learn to resign themselves, and not be selfish. Will Rafa ever resign? Or will just wait for the big paycheck?

I don't know why people like you live in some fantasy world where people in football should operate on some god-tier morale compass. He should resign because he's got some bad results? You know he likely believes he can turn it around.

Oh and I'm sure you would resign and give up a 3 million pound pay-off wouldn't you?

At the start of his tenure I could deal with shit football because we were winning games and picking up points. The problem now is that we are losing every week and plummeting down the table. No win in two months is leading to Bruce at Newcastle levels of mediocrity and it is embarassing for a club who has spent as much as us and as depressing as it is, the only thing going for us recently is being a solid mid-table side that will put in a European spot challenge. Now we are regressing very badly. I don't blame all of that on Rafa but he's starting to become a catalyst for it. I think we have a lot of poor characters around the club too, people that think they're above his tactics / the position we are in but aren't playing at a level to acknowledge that arrogance. It's a very toxic situation at Everton currently and I really don't know what will fix it apart from a complete overhaul.

I think its time clubs realise that football has changed. The Rafa, Anchelotti, Jose, big Sam and the like methods don't work anymore.

There is a new wave of exciting coaches, playing a different brand of football and these clubs need to move with that.

Everton would have been better of getting Eddie Howe at the start instead of Rafa, these managers are living of what they did 10 years ago.

Eddie Howe scares me. We are leaking goals currently and that was a trait of his Bournemouth team.

Yep, I do get that too. That is my concern with Howe too.

However; Rafa is known to be defensive solid but, it seems like he's lost that bit of his play. Or is it that these managers haven't been able to adapt to facing more aggressive teams?
