Look there's no point in continuing this discussion, the level of hyperbole in your post is frankly a little unhinged.
It's not hyperbole or unhinged. Maguire has been poor for all but half a season he's played for us. He's being found out now and he'll be pushed out over the next season or so now he's not under a manager who simply plays him for being English and being one of his favourites.

Well he's starting

Hope he proves us wrong and puts in the best performance of his life

Sooner we cut our losses, the better. Wouldn’t mind if he was only played on merit, as he wouldn’t be in the XI most weeks. Hope Ralf goes with 2 of lindelof/Varane/Bailly.

No accountability whatsoever, come rain or shine he's put in the team, hell even just back from injury he's put in as the past proves. I could understand if he was world class but he's awful, Bailly has a calamitous moment or two in him for sure, but his good game against Chelsea shouldn't be rewarded with an immediate dropping, it really irks me

Talk of selling him is ludicrous but at the moment it seems that as long as he can walk, he gets in the team. That should not be.

It's both, absolutely, poor for all but half a season is nonsense.

If you're so confident though about your second statement, how about a bet? Next season Maguire will play the majority of games he's available for (so barring injuries, suspensions, etc), loser pays a charity chosen by the winner?

Go for it, although I suspect you may pull out of the bet when we see Maguire gradually being eased out of the side towards the end of this season once Rangnicks had a proper look at him.

Good performance, made some crucial clearances and tried to be ambitious with the ball despite the complete lack of midfield options in front of him.

His only good game so far this season. Was mainly good, but still poor positionally, forcing him into some unnecessarily difficult positions.

Considering I've been supporting him plenty, that sounds like some grade A projection.

What do you reckon, £100? Surely we can get a witness, which means neither of us can back out. Majority being more than half. That work for you?

How on Earth are you posting that tonight? you miserable sod.
Made 2 brilliant clearances in injury time - odd time to post that.
He made a couple of clearances. I don't think he was that impressive. His positioning and awareness in defensive areas is so poor.

Second Arsenal goal is a good example, yes Fred should track the runner. But he's more concerned about running back to the goal than holding his position and blocking the cut back.

After that, Fred was chasing a high ball over the top from White into the left centre back channel. Maguire was nowhere to be seen.

No horrific mistakes today which was a nice change of pace.

He's still very mediocre when forced to defend proactively. He thrives much more in situations like the end of the match camped around his own box where he can just batter balls away to safety.

I have to say though I hate that he just walks into the lineup no matter what despite having absolutely 0 credentials to do so. You'd think he was a UCL winning CB the way the staff treats him

Whaaaat? Ha ha.

And if he doesn’t go and defend the front post area, the cross is played in there instead to the striker that is in front of Lindelöf.

He can’t not go and defend the front post there.

I didn't think he had a bad game. Was better than anything he had been playing.

No, he should hold back a few yards for the cut back, there is only 1 Arsenal palyer in there. Lindelof has that pretty much under control and Telles has the angle for that cross covered off, hence the cut back. Maguire does this all the time, runs towards the line and leaves a massive gap for the cut back.

No, he absolutely shouldn’t, it’s his job to get in front and stop that cross to the 6 yard box and an easy tap in. Lindelöf doesn’t have that under control.

That's Telles job and he has that cross covered off. That's why he goes for the cut back. Maguire doesn't need to run all the way in. When that ball goes through to the net there's 3/4 Utd players and only 1 Arsenal player there. It's well covered off.

Brilliant tonight. On the front-foot throughout, dominant in the air, passed the ball well, nice and aggressive in his positioning.

I know this is going to annoy some of the clueless trolls on here, but that performance is the definition of 'progressive' defending and Rangnick will have loved what he saw

Have you ever played football? How the feck can Telles be covering the front post there or blocking the cross?

You’d absolutely crucify your CB there if he allowed the simplest of crosses to be played into Auba there who is ball-side of Lindelöf. The edge of the box is the midfielders responsibility.

Agreed. But the overal defensive game will get much better, defending as a team and all defenders will have less blood on their hands and we will more focus on some some of the brilliant sweeps by him and ball playing skills, taking the ball out of defence and playing with absolute calmness under pressure and in tight situations. HM's still a great defender when he shakes off some early post Euros headache and collapse of our system but he will thrive as a progressive CB. Rangnick will love him.

There was a horrific mistake, luckily VAR didn't notice.

Was good, just needs to stop hanging on to the ball so much. Anything more than 2 touches for a CB is not composure, it's overkill and impacts our transition.
He can play it faster when he's got movement around him, this is easily sorted by coaching. We can be glad though that he's composed and can keep in all those tight situations and under pressure, other than sending it to row Z like Lindelof and keep us in possession when needed - those are the bits which differentiate him from average defenders.

I have aye.

To me, Telles should be covering the near post angle on the cross. Lindelof has tracked Abuameyang and has him covered. Maguire has left the guy who scored free on the edge of the box, if held a few yards he cuts out that pass.

Played a few cracking long range passes today and was generally pretty solid. Felt like he took a bit more of a back seat today and wasn’t his normal aggressive self going for a wonder and finding himself lost at sea. He was decent and some good defensive headers.
