Good

Loved him as a player but the coaching at this club has been awful and he’s a huge part of that under 2 separate managers.

Thanks but I’m sick of mates rates at this club.
Kind of like blaming the academy players for the performances of the senior player.
He was doing his badges here, litteraly learning under, supposedly, more accomplished managers.
I love for ex-players to be part of the coaching staff and I absolutely love the practice of keeping retired players around, expose them to the coaching side of the game and if they re up for it, go prove themselves elsewhere.

Plus such players still tend to have weight in the locker room, and you get the experience and calming influence of a senior player, without sacrificing a spot on the bench.

I'd expect Mata to stay on, " interning " under the next manager and then coach up the youth ranks. And when a managing position comes up, he will go with all our best wishes.

Solskjaer did a great job at the academy level which helped him get a job at Molde and more importantly given him a level of experience that placed him ahead of the other managers in the league, and won Molde first ever title.

Point is, I don't mind ex-players as part of the set-up, if they prove competent for the job at hand. If Guardiola/Zidane were ex-players of ours, you'dnt have anyone complaining were they appointed managers.

Having a history with the club should be a cherry on top so to speak, if the competencies stand up.

He's probably the one I would have kept out of all the coaching staff, even though I wanted a fresh start with entirely new staff. A class act though, he's done himself and the club a credit the last few weeks and now

Best of luck Michael. I wonder if he wants to test himself as a manager elsewhere, or perhaps was worried Rangnick would end up getting rid of him? Either way, very thankful for everything he’s done for our club. Incredible player and leaves as our only unbeaten manager, possibly ever.
I just think it was the right thing to do after Ole was sacked.
The man is class, he is leaving the head high. Fair play to him.

Great player, great servant, club legend, all the best. Classy.

Which is more than can be said for some still moaning about Solskjaer even in this thread.

A lot people don't know when to bite their tongue and show some respect.
Why? They should all have gone when they sacked Ole. It was only the fact Woodward had just given them a contract renewal he didnt want to lose even more face he kept them on and would have no one to run the team. I said he was a good player, but that ended years ago. Apart from that its been dire.

Didn't necessarily expect this. Smart move would have been to learn under Ralf, but seems like either Carrick has too big of an ego or (less likely) Ralf not wanting him. Either way, I won't cry about it. He should go and coach or manage a smaller team, prove himself and if he becomes very good maybe come back.
Not ego, self respect.

Phelan certainly.

McKenna back to the academy, he didn't do a bad job there.
I suspect we keep them on until end of the year then clear them out completely when the new manager comes with his own staff

Carrick leaves with class but you lack the ability to farewell him in the same manner without being bitchy

Thought he’d benefit a lot from a few months under Rangnick

But personal choices for the good of a family come before a football club.

Because now isn't the time to throw shit at a guy who's served the club for 15 years. But let's' make it about your feelings. Cool.

He is an absolute legend, and yes I have a small statue with a big head of him on my desk.

He's a club legend, and a player I look up to as a player myself.

He is a true club legend and I am gutted to see him go,

Yeah I was thinking this. Also he said he’ll still probably come around the place. May easily just go and watch some sessions and if he ever gets the chance speak to Rangnick.

Who should have taken charge for the three games before Rangnick came in. Don’t say ‘we should have got Rangnick sooner’, because we didn’t. What should the club have done for the three interim games? You know what did happen? We gave it to Carrick, he won 2, drew one and left on his own volition just like you wanted. Don’t know why you’re complaining.

My feelings? No I'm just saying what I feel without all of a sudden going over the top the job he has done as a coach. We will have to agree to disagree. Hope i havent hurt your feelings.

A lot of people seem to forget he was here for 5 years coaching and like the rest has been generally poor. He has shown in the last 3 games he is slightly better than Ole as a manager.
He was a good player for the club, but its for the best he has left. I hope Phelan McKenna and co have the bollocks to do the same thing now.
Carrick should take some time off and maybe in the summer try to become a manager/coach at a FL club. Maybe he might do better at a lower level.
What specific aspects of his coaching do you feel were poor?

And bring in a whole new team like what Moyes did?

We got rid of the old guard, and everyone wanted them back....

Thank you Carrick. He didnt use PR team to boast how highly rated he was yet he was the one who became the caretaker. Speaks volume. Best of luck.

I cannot work out from his comments whether the club and Rangnick knew about this or they too will have been blindsided by it. I hope he did at least let others know before the post-match interview and announcement in the dressing room.

Regardless, a legend at the club and would be in any hall of fame were we to have one. Also our greatest manager of all time statistically.

Piss off, William Hill.

Would kill for a midfielder like that now. Solid in defence, no dawdling on the ball, excellent passing range and always keeps the ball.
You can tell a worldclass CM by how much time he seems to have on the ball deceptively.

Saying what you feel is making it about your feelings. But you do you. Disrespect begets disrespect.

Well said. Time and place.
Yeah the guy deserves respect for the way he's conducted himself and what he's done for the club for 15 years. It's a good decision, if inevitable.

That was always a stupid thing to complain about.

The only thing Moyes' did right was to get rid of them & try and put his own stamp on the team. Unfortunately, Moyes was just never good enough & you could've hired Klopp & Guardiola to be his assistants and it still wouldn't have worked.
