As Mark once said in Peep show; "you're not a bad guy, but you are a moron"

I feel that way about a few of our former players*

*except Giggs. He's also a bad guy.

Why does it seem like our ex players are all so reticent to progressing with the times in football? All they want is SAF anecdotes and vague terms of nothingness.

United dna isn't a style of play. It's about standards, a will to win, be better etc.

The feck is he on about? Stick to eating raw chickens dude.
So annoying as a pundit, hasn't an ounce of insight.

Oh and that United DNA your on about, That was Sir Alex, not United.
I've said this before. There us no United way. It's a myth.
There is only a Great Managers way.

We were Phenomenal under Busby and Fergie because they were world class managers who moulded the whole club to their image not Uniteds.
We've been shit to average under our other managers because they weren't as good as those 2.

Do Liverpool play the Liverpool way. No it's Klopps way.
Did Barca, Bayern or City now play their way under Guardiola. No, its his way.

Great managers make great teams, not DNA or the mythical "Way".

Agree totally. All this United Way talk is bollocks.

There is a United way and he is absolutely right. It's winning, hard work, high octane football with flying wingers.

Don't see how that United way cannot be coupled with some tactical astuteness, and a style which involves working with a high class coach to create specific patterns of play!

Ex players need to keep their noses out of the clubs business and move on they are half of the problem. Have tried it their way now its time to be quiet, i mean seriously throwing shade at a guy that hasn't even started yet while giving Ole a free pass for 3 YEARS of rudderless, toothless and inconsistent football?

People getting wound up at random ex-United pundit they don't agree with again. He is talking bollocks but I don't get why anyone gives a shit. He's at least entertaining with it.

Rangnick has put emphasis on respecting club traditions at almost every club he’s been at with a significant history.

I don’t see how his style contradicts whatever bullshit philosophy he thinks qualifies as the “United way” anyways. Is a direct counter pressing style not compatible with the history? What in the world?

I almost wish we hired Conte to break the brains of people who spout such nonsense. He’s complaining about Rangnick for the sake of complaining.

Yeah I love ya Pat but pipe down with that mate. This team has to progress to a modern style of play, surely he can see that.

The thing is, Pat 'gets' what United are all about, he bought into the club at one of its peaks under SAF. It may be hard to switch off what he experienced at that time and understand that it can't be recreated without first getting with the times and adopting a sytle of play that will allow us to compete. It's now about stepping stones, step by step getting back to being competitive, he didn't have to go through that type of period when he was here.

I dont get what they mean about United DNA.

Under SAF, I saw us play different styles of football, the main think was winning.

That is the DNA, winning titles.

However we do it, whatever style, United DNA is winning.

Nail on head really, i can't tell if it's because its a threat to their connection with the club or the mantra of the united way was so ingrained into them that they feel it has to be repeater. Or they're just pissy about Ole being gone.

It's bollocks though because as others have said we did change style under Sir Alex. Attacking exciting play with some youth is the united way and Ole barely did that anyway. We don't need an ex player to play like that.

I don't remember any former players complaining about Van Gaal not being compatible with United DNA before he joined. It was known that LVG would bring about a radical change from United's play style.

Anyway, from what I've seen of how RR sets up it's hardly a million miles from the best of Fergie's football. We often used to camp ourselves in the opposition half. One of the best things was when we needed a goal we'd camp ourselves in the opposition half until we got the goal.

Liverpool tried to play the Boot Room way. We didn't win the league for thirty years. :(
How people who spout "United DNA" over and over can't see the similarity to your struggles and what held you back for so long is baffling.

If we could clone Fergie and have him managing the club forever, bringing in new coaches as and when we needed to innovate, I'd ride the United DNA train all day every day. But Fergie is gone, we have to move on. Ole doing his best Fergie impersonation was sending us down the toilet this year, it's time to finally start acting like a top modern football club.

I feel like Evra often starts talking before he has actually decided what his point is and then figures it out as he goes.

I remember a couple losing their minds when we sold Welbeck.

While giving youth chances.

That's basically it.

Yep, I dont know why ex players and fans get carried away thinking it is a play style.

SAF played defensive football away from home in big games, 4-5-1 and played 4-4-2 at home. Either way, it was whichever method gets us the win.

I can think of few reasons:

1 - It's easy, no need for any thinking or preparing, just banging the drum about "United DNA" for nostalgia marketing and stay relevant.
2 - Ego, the worse we play/achieve, the better they looks.
3 - Job for the boy, United is a big cake and they all want a pieces so they will keep pushing. Rangnick will experience more of the same soon enough, especially if he dares benching their favourite player.
4 - No consequences, no matter what they say they will always be a "legend", so why not? Our fan will always love them no matter what.

If Evra actually love United like he claimed, then he will see that there is literally no benefit putting that kind of pressure into Rangnick even before his first training.

I love Pat but he’s chatting a load of bollocks here.
To be fair though, if we played like City did and countered like Liverpool do, that would be exactly United "DNA"

As Ralph said, we need to be attacking even when we don't have the ball and be in the other half of the pitch as possible.

So Evra is right, from a certain point of view.

United DNA is certainly not a play style. The last couple of seasons under SAF we often played some tumescent stuff. We'd defend with 2 blocks of 4 literally on the edge of our own box and play on the counter. We won, but it certainly wasn't pretty fluid swash buckling football for many games.

All these ex players don’t have an in at the club anymore. They think it’s their club and they know how to run it. None of them know shit.

if Micah annoyingly adorable clown, than Evra is an irritatingly unfunny one.
Micah isn't an idiot though.

Find it incredible that Micah and Carragher can eloquently tell you everything that United are doing wrong. Meanwhile Neville and Evra have their fingers in ears head in sand, Neville screaming "BUT MOURINHO..." and Evra screaming "United DNA" over and over.

The funniest part is that Ralf used it too - quite frequently, actually - in his presser earlier today.
