As much as I like the idea of Rangnick so far I believe ETH is the better long term manager for us.

He also mentions that his next step would have to be a foreign top club, and that he considers being talked about for United as recognition of his accomplishments. That's the only reference to United in the article though.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has labelled Donny van de Beek's lack of progress at Manchester United as a 'mortal sin.'
Ten Hag nurtured Van de Beek as a youngster at Ajax, developing him into one of the most promising midfield starlets in the game.
They enjoyed a great stint together in Amsterdam, especially in the remarkable run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, in which they advanced past Juventus and Real Madrid before being eliminated by Tottenham.
Van de Beek left the Netherlands in the summer of 2020 in what appeared to be a coup for United, signing the talented playmaker for just £35million from under the noses of Real Madrid.
However, things have not gone to plan for the 24-year-old who has struggled for minutes in his 18 months at Old Trafford and hasn't started a significant Premier League match since last December.
Unsurprisingly, Van de Beek hasn't been able to kick on with his career with so few opportunities. Ten Hag has admitted that it's difficult to see and that he is still in touch with his former player to offer support.
"Donny, I find that hard," Ten Hag told de Volkskrant. "[It's a] mortal sin. If you haven't had a chance yet, then development will also stall. Every now and then you encourage them."
Ten Hag may one day get the chance to rectify Van de Beek's plight as he is one of the favourites to be the next permanent manager of the club.
The Dutchman has fuelled speculation that he could move to Old Trafford by admitting that he feels ready for a bigger challenge.
"I think I'm ready for it [the next step]. I would be happy to take up that challenge," he added.
"But I'm not chasing it. If it turns out that that step will never come, I will not say that my coaching career has failed.
"But I think I have sufficient competencies to take on that challenge."

Can't wait to see how he's going to play against Sporting. I've written of Amorim in the CL this year after matchday 1, but I was surprised to see how he managed to turn it around.
It's no secret that Amorim prefers a more defensive approach to the game, whilist Ten Hag is all about offense. With Sporting looking out for blood after their humiliation and Ten Hag's no compromising win at all costs, this is shaping up to be a great encounter. It's literally going to be a battle of fire and ice.

Same. Just get the right vibe from him, super talented up and coming manager who plays the right brand of football, desperate to make an impression and prove himself at a big club. Ticks all the right boxes.
We need to get this guy next summer. He's the best choice to take us forward.
More likely that City have him lined up to replace Pep. Slaphead for slaphead. They're a state backed club so they can operate in such a manner whereas we have to sign managers who won't torpedo our chances of lucrative L'Oréal endorsements.

On a related note, it was interesting living through the rise of ‘arguably’ in sports journalism.
Not really, it was more like a competitive/friendly game with no public in Amesterdam, Amorim had some important players injured and with Covid and used the game to rotate the squad and give some younger players the experience to lose against Ajax. On a serious note, both teams had nothing special to lose and next round Ajax will focus on advancing to the last 8 while Sporting has to focus on doing the best possible. Amorim still has a long way to go on his carrer.

That's poor reporting, cause it's a bad translation of the Dutch. He said 'doodzonde', which indeed literally means 'mortal sin', but doesn't mean that at all. It means 'great pity'. Here's the relevant bit from the interview (as it happens, the link is in my post right above yours):
"Zoals hij contact houdt met vele spelers die vertrokken en nu elders op een dood spoor zitten. ‘Neem Donny (van de Beek, bankzitter bij Manchester United, red.). *** vind ik hard. Doodzonde. Nog geen kans gehad, dan stokt ook de ontwikkeling. Af en toe steek je die een hart onder de riem.’"
Translation: "Just like he stays in touch with many players that have left and are now at a dead end elsewhere. 'Take Donny (van de Beek, on the bench at Manchester United, red). I find that rough. Such a great pity. Didn't get a chance yet, then your development halts as well. You sometimes console/encourage them.'
So he's more talking about things being thought for Van de Beek and not so much criticizing United here. (Well, a little, for the lack of opportunity. But not a 'mortal won't.)

it seems like this is the guy that they've really nailed on to be the manager next season which i find a bit interesting as his style of play is a bit different than Rangnick in terms of team set up and shape

I think we'll get him. We have the advantage of having the position vacant and a very good relationship with Ajax.
Unless we have a good structure and vision in place, going after managers will not be of use. Ten Hag is no exception. We've had amazing managers in LVG and JM who failed because we didn't have a vision of our own and thought we could get hollywood managers in, throw money at random players they want and success will follow.
Leaving the last few games of Ole aside, I think he did a pretty good job at rebooting the culture and getting us going in the right direction. Of course, he was never going to be the person to see it through. Given we have Rangnick now who has an amazing record at the Red Bull group and whose vision and expectation of style of football matches with ours, it would be unwise to bring someone in for the sake of it without allowing Rangnick time to implement his ideas. Unless of course he wants it that way.

Such an impressive job, max points in group and i think has only ever lost 1 away game in CL? With a Dutch side who often get raided for talent that really is well done
