I don’t celebrate goals anymore

Even before VAR, everyone including players who scored a goal almost always had an eye on an offside flag before/while they celebrated.

So, for me, it didn't change much with VAR. I frankly like to celebrate twice now after VAR review.

Why's it weird? You celebrated loudly so everyone else must have done?

Personally I was bored shitless, mentally switched off from the match and was composing a post about Wayne Rooney's Derby winning last night because it was more interesting to me. The goal barely registered. Nothing to do with VAR but I'm not going think you were strange for not acting like I did, everyone's different.
Not saying that the poster him/herself was weird, but considering the circumstances around the potential importance of the goal it feels like unnecessary doom and gloom and whining instead of enjoying the moment for what it is.

Just a personal observation on my part, but I didn’t mean for it to come across as “my opinion is always valid” type of post and if it did that’s my fault.

I waited until this afternoon to start celebrating. You just never know these days.

I don't celebrate a lot neither.

There's always the thought that VAR will change the outcome somehow - Probably because every situation has VAR eyes on it.

Also lost the joy about english football being less physical due to VAR.

Now you can barely touch a player.

VAR, to me, makes football loses it's nerve and spontanious feelings in the heat of the moment.

Made even worse today for me as I'd paid to watch my other boys play, so had 2 screens on the go, United sound down.

Saw it go in, half celebrated, and then saw the replay and thought MILES OFFSIDE.

Amazed to realise it had counted and a great bit of timing from Cavani.

Happened again today. I was certain Rashford’s goal would be ruled out.
Same. Cavani looked well offside. It’s a pain in the hole watching on TV with replays and commentators telling you what’s happening. Must be un-fecking-bearable for the fans at the game. That should have been an iconic, lose your shit, frenzy for everyone at OT. Totally ruined by VAR. Absolute bullshit.

I was punching the air and shouting like a maniac. Then I started feeling silly when I heard they were checking it but it was justified in the end!

Personally, I celebrate when the players celebrate, i.e. when the flag doesn’t go up there and then.

It was a very quick check at least.

I still celebrate. I can't help it. Most goals aren't chalked off anyway so it seems silly to not celebrate due to a minority of incidents.
Try having Werner in your team

It would have been ruined much more if the referees would have disallowed the goal cause Cavani in real time looked offside (he was not).

I didn't think Cavani was offside but I see many who disagree so I'm behind to question my initial instincts. Which part of his body was offside?

I did some kind of weird delayed celebration. I really thought Cavani was offside as soon as the pass was played to him, so I didn’t celebrate. Then realised the linesman hadn’t put the flag up initially so started celebrating knowing full well it was really tight.

It’s horrible.

Nah. Has fecked up the feeling quite a bit. Whatever you do, it wouldn’t be the same.

I celebrate it twice.
This. Never got the argument that VAR would spoil celebrations. If its ruled a goal your team gets to celebrate twice, if its ruled not a goal the opposition gets to celebrate. The majority of players still seem to celebrate straight away anyway unless they have a feeling they were offside.

The automated offside calling should solve one aspect of this, if it’s reliable. Though I’m sure it’ll be a massive dumpster fire like everything else they implement.

I was initially pissed off. From 90th to 92th minutes we were defending instead of putting this to bed, so when finally scoring I was both buzzing and in relief.

Seriously VAR stops the game too often at times, but United needs to simply finish opponents off without remorse. Need to return to ruthless days of executing every mistake, then VAR will naturally f*ck off.

For me it was more like a rugby try. Immediate celebration, then tension and doubt, followed by another bout of punching the air and yelling.

It's a complete mood killer. Stood in the Stretford End, me and the guy next to me waitied in trepidation, anticipating that the goal would be ruled out. Obviously we jumped around like mad once we realised it wasn't going to be, but still.

My only reaction was that I said to my missus “we might have scored”, which is a shame, because goals like that used to see me flying around whichever room I happened to be in.

VAR has its benefits of course, but it’s certainly taken some of the enjoyment out of goals.

I was sure Cavani was offside, maybe in the early days of VAR some ref would have read it by the letter of the law.

However most goals don't even require offside review so nah it hasn't ruined much.

Getting the right result is more important than people not having to wait a few seconds before celebrating.
Why? Isn’t emotions and entertainment the most important thing?

I’d understand that argument more if it weren’t for the litany of examples of VAR feck ups.

No. The right team winning after having put their entire lives and careers to get to that point is far more important than any instant emotional value for the spectators. They still get to celebrate a few seconds later. A team cannot come back from a loss due to a wrong result.

Which is an argument for improving replays and refereeing. Not removing the mechanism that gives you an opportunity to review potential errors and just continue with decisions made by the on field ref in a split second.

Yeah that looked offside to me in real time so I held back on celebrating. The tight offside ones are the only type of goal I don't celebrate straight away though so it's not too bad.
