Right so now that there's been an investigation, results reported to the teams, Masi's fecked off, regulation changes to stop Spa 21 repeating itself among other things, are you lot satisfied? Can we properly get on with the new season now?
I honestly don't understand why people who don't care about this stuff care so much about other people caring about it?

All positive changes, but some people will never fully get over Abu Dhabi 2020. It was a complete farce and a disgrace. Especially LH fans and especially x1000 if Lewis doesn't get #8.

This isn't a slight on Max and never has been. I still think it'll annoy him that he won his first WC in this way and he'll be desperate to win at least 1 more

So they admitted masi broke the rules with his decision? So they're admitting the championship is basically bollocks.

Thank god Masi has been removed. He cracked under the pressure at a crucial moment, and unfortunate as it is, it means he's not fit for that particular job even if he also did good work throughout the year.

It was just too catastrophic of a misjudgement to be swept under the carpet.

Personal opinion...going into Abu Dhabi neither driver deserved to win, if either did then by Abu Dhabi it would have been won as has been done by winners in previous championships. So when people say Max deserved to win it, it discredits the events of Abu Dhabi. The only driver that deserved to win it was Lewis who had it taken from him at the last minute of the last race by Masi. The removal of Masi is admission of this fact. Unfortunately for Max he was handed the title and therefore in my eyes and a lot of fans eyes he is an illegitimate champion. Nothing wrong in holding this opinion especially when its supported by the facts.

Charlie Whiting is hugely missed. Above all he was largely respected by everyone, but that was due to consistent decision making.
Exactly.
And he would not accept being pressurised by any of the teams.

Totally agree.
Now it has been formally accepted that Masi made the wrong call on 2 accounts, it is absolutely clear that Hamilton was robbed of the race win and ultimately his 8th WC.
But the outcome of the race stands, incorrect as it was.

But did he do good work throughout the year. The last race failings were a direct result of Masi accepting the teams inputs during the races.
They saw how weak he was and exploited it.

Masi had been cracking under the pressure for weeks, and he had a pretty obvious tell when he knew he'd messed up - it was to go on the attack.

When Max brake checked Lewis, Masi started by saying "I told you what was going to happen, you had plenty of time to tell the driver", and when it was pointed out that there wasn't enough time, he pivoted to "Well I can't be on the radio to everyone at the same time". It was the same with his "It's called motor racing" comment.

Him going is good for the sport no matter who you support, he was way out of his depth as Race Director.

As for that Ferrari, it's absolutely beautiful. Hopefully it's a good car, Ferrari need to be back in the title picture for F1, they're synonymous with it.

I know there are differing opinions to mine about this but to me closing both eyes to weaving, and even worse, brakechecking, should have been enough to remove him before Abu Dhabi.

Not sure he cares to be honest, he is changing colour of his helmet to gold and taking the number 1. Although I guess one could look at that as if overdoing it a little and over compensating for something.

I only go by what other team principals and drivers have said about him. I assume he's doing something positive behind the scenes when he's not fixing races live on TV

Personally, I thought it was one of the most controversial and dangerous seasons I've ever witnessed despite the excitement of it all. I disagreed with nearly all the key decisions he made throughout, especially Spa. But hey ho, he's gone.

Maybe because they've spent months defending what happened last season, but the actions today show that it was a complete farce. People don't like to accept they were wrong.

I am glad he has gone , but dont agree he did a good work,he made some mistakes, the last race , Spa being the biggest.

I can see where you are coming from, but for some last season is still an open wound that is itching and hurting and it needs to be scratched.
Anybody other than Masi and Max would not have been WC and it must never happen again, but also we need to move on, Max is WC that will not change..

FIA proposal from the nee president.

Firstly, to assist the race director in the decision-making process, a Virtual Race Control Room will be created. Alike the Video Assistance Referee (VAR) in football, it will be positioned in one of the FIA Offices as a backup outside the circuit. In real-time connection with the FIA F1 race director, it will help to apply the sporting regulations using the most modern technological tools.

Secondly, direct radio communications during the race, currently broadcast live by all TVs, will be removed in order to protect the race director from any pressure and allow him to take decisions peacefully. It will still be possible to ask questions to the race director, according to a well-defined and non-intrusive process.

Thirdly, unlapping procedures behind safety car will be reassessed by the F1 Sporting Advisory Committee and presented to the next F1 committee before the start of the season.

Of course he doesn't care, he already announced he was going to do this before the Brazil GP if he'd end up winning the WC

No I want them to release the findings of the investigation. Half of the problems this year was them doubling down on their misjudgements they need to be more transparent.

They wont release it as they know it will create an even bigger controversy.

Anyway tomorrow i believe is the Mercedes car unveil and Lewis Hamiltons first media interview since the farce of abu dhabi.

When they sort out the overtaking and defending rules. No clarification yet on dive bombs.

Fair play for Hamilton coming back with Russell as a team mate. I'm convinced he was going to leave if he had won an 8th title.
Will be really interesting to see how he fairs out against him

I dunno about that. Given the agreement with the teams about not ending under SC and the pressure Toto and Horner were putting him under, I think anyone would have buckled some way or the other in Masi's position.

Maybe less controversially in terms of red flagging and restarting the race, or maybe even been more efficient/wreckless and got the incident cleared in time to pass all the lapped cars.

It never will, 2021 will go down in history and brought up all the time.
Its getting boring now, it will take the shine of 2022 and the new cars.
Unless Hamilton wins it this year. Then surely no one will care anymore?

2057 maybe. They still here about The Hand of God 36 years after it happened.
That was way more iconic though surely. This was just one race in an entire season full of question able stuff.

Though we also still go on about not beating German in 74 and they didn't even cheat.

I mean people forgetting about Schumacher 94 pretty quick isn't how I'd describe it. Going in to 95 it was a big talking point and all you gotta do it google Schumacher 94 to see if people still talk about it. Abu Dhabi might not reach Prost/Senna crash or Spygate level of F1 chatter but it'll be a talking point for a while.
