He completed 23 passes and had 70% pass success overall.

Elneny who doesn't even stand out in Egypt's midfield completed 62 passes.
Shocking stats... people with throw out vagaries about mentality and passion and crap like that and a major problem is staring you in the face almost every week. He's absolutely miles off the level required.

He was extremely quiet, barely involved in the game. Played perhaps the best pass that i have ever seen from him for Lingard to not even get a foot on it late on but he can't be starting next season in midfield.

Is this for real? I can't believe it

And someone here said he was one of our better players today

He's like lingard, not because of technique, but because so many believe he's a youngster. He'll be 26 when ten hang starts managing us next season. If he isn't doing it now he isn't going to magically become a competent midfielder.

Would someone please tell me which player this season who has achieved pass marks. (Besides Ronaldo and DDG)

What a supportive fanbase we have...

I don't hate McTominay; he seems like a good guy and his attitude is commendable. With that said, I think the fact that today was pretty much par for the course with him says everything about his ability level.

He played a few pretty good passes, show strong energy levels, but did not impose himself on the game or at least help to prevent the opponents from doing so. This is pretty standard from McTominay.

It's why, in the midst of the abysmal form we've seen from other players, I think McTominay is one of the first we should be looking to replace in the first team. At least with the likes of Maguire, Shaw and Rashford you can say that their performances have been uncharacteristically bad this season. McTominay has never consistently played much better than he has done this season.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

It's not just this season though, is it? McTominay hasn't been any worse than he's been any other season.

In fact, I would say that the month after Rangnick first came in is probably the best consistent run of performances in McTominay's career. He actually had me thinking that maybe I'd been too harsh on him and he could be a valuable player (even if only a squad player), but he very quickly dropped back to his normal level.

What did he say?
Scott McTominay: "The last four games are about pride for us. Going out on the pitch and showing a bit of balls in your performances and not shying away from the ball or not doing everything right." [BT Sport]

Scott McTominay: "When the new coach comes in we need to be ready for everything. We need to be so dialed in and concentrated on our jobs that we impress him and we can then build from there." [BT Sport]

Scott McTominay: "For us, self-belief, lack of confidence, you can see it all in the last two months." [BT Sport]

Scott McTominay: "There's a whole load of problems in terms of players, staff, anything within higher up, we need to just concentrate on what happens on the pitch."

Scott McTominay: "We dominated the first 20-25 minutes of the second half, and then they go up the other end of the pitch and score which is about the way it's going at the minute." [BT Sport]

Scott McTominay: "Goals change games of football, and obviously we didn't but the ball in the back of the net enough and they did." [BT Sport]

Typical McT performance. Did nothing. Got into a wrestling match. Talking after the game is all well and good. You showed nothing on the pitch, and rarely ever do. Just shit.

I like what he says, but talking about shying away from the ball just makes my eyes roll. He does a disappearing act every game

Can some one tell him that sometimes you can RUN instead of JOG to show up for the ball in build ups or when our team got countered?

Also, when you are defending, please LOWER YOUR CENTER OF GRAVITY by slightly bending your knees and curling up your body, if you stay high up you will easily be dribbled past. Also, take FREQUENT SMALL STEPS instead of large strides when defending so that you can change your run's direction quicker when your opponent changes direction.

These are very basic things and seems that he doesn't know it

He buys fans with two or three at best moments of battle the entire game, and spends rest of the game jogging around, and talks about fight.

Has he seen Liverpool and City play and what a real fight means for 90 minutes? He would be gassed after 30 minutes if he did any of that press their midfielders do.

It's a bunch of PR nonsense to big himself up for the new manager and makes himself look like one of the leaders in the team.

One of the biggest frauds at the club.

Played some decent forward passes. Shouldve had an assist when he intercepted Ramsdales ball but Bruno fecked it.

As usual, the caf agenda is out in full force.

If rumours are true and ten Hag thinks he can make a player out of McTominay then he's failed before he's stepped through the door.
He must keep him. We (as it is confirmed by Ed many times) demand from managers to play academy players. Our managers have a lot of freedom regarding team and can transfer list most of them regardless are they are stars or not (Alexis, Lukaku, Pogba, Sancho, Mikhi etc etc...) but academy players are more or less unsellable. Not saying that ETH will must to start Rashford or McT but selling them is not an option

This. He is still rated as prospect and spneone who can develop. Which is laughable

It was always going to spill out.

This is not a United dressing room. A lot of these guys clearly hate each other and have no respect for each other. Keeping them in the same dressing room and expecting them to fight for each other and work for each other is a bit mad.

You do realise he's made total of 23 succesful passes in 90 minutes of football today? And misplaced 10 passes.

And you think other people have an agenda.

There are always excuses for Mctominay. It's as if being home grown has given him a free pass to being a Manchester United player for the next decade.

Bang average. Should he playing for Burnley.

He needs to take up rugby league or something like that. A sport in which he can run about like an idiot and charge into people.

He’s a horrible player.

The thing is, in the past few years, I would only give pass marks to Bruno and DDG. (This season you can add Ronaldo to that shortlist)

Most of the time a player is determined by the quality of his manager. Look at Henderson at Liverpool. Would anyone call him world class? He was a figure of fun when we were linked with him. Then Klopp turned him into a main cog in the Liverpool machine.

Andy Robertson was good at Dundee United and Hull. And now? He's world class.

Fact remains, we have had a proper manager since SAF. So it stands to reason that the players have stagnated and we don't have a clear path.

What I am sick of is, after every single match, thr same old people make the sane old complaints about the player(s) whom they dislike.

It's a copy and paste mentality.

I actually liked him few years ago, despite some flaws I expected him only to get better, but he hasn't improved one bit. I find it ridiculous when people say he is giving his all, they buy when he does one or two bad tackles per game and spends rest of the game jogging around.

Who do you reckon hate one another? Do you reckon it's a clash of entitled players vs proper united loyalists?

Oh. I realise that I'm in the McTominay bashing thread.

I would love someone to tell me which player (apart from the two that I mentioned) have been brilliant this season.

The way that people are talking, it's like 10 of the 11 players are playing brilliantly McTominay is letting down the team.

Elanga is a good squad option and with coaching I think he could be decent.
Fred has generally been good.
Sancho has definitely improved and I’m sure he’ll be a key player for us.

I’m hopefully we see some of the youth for these last few games now, usually gets us looking forward to next season.

I don't think its clear cut. I imagine there's blame between the attackers and defenders. Those who were pro-Ole and those who lost faith. Those want to give pressing a go and those who aren't fussed. Those who see their futures at United, those who don't. Those who believe they should be playing and those who don't think they should be dropped. All these little things will be playing off against each other and I'm sure on different issues, different players agree with each other and disagree with each other about different stuff. Its all just falling apart and everyone is pointing fingers.

Reminds me of looking at the Liverpool dressing room way back when and hearing about Ruddock had issues with Collymore or Gerrard and El Hadj Djouf. When a club like ours starts properly disintegrating blame gets thrown around and it all gets toxic.

The sad thing is we saw what happened to Liverpool and, instead of learning from it, did basically the same things: Relying on stars, pushing kids too hard too much, buying 'spice boys' and treating every new manager like a Messiah that was going to fix it all. We're pretty much just at the edge of the Phil Babb, Kvarme stage and going full midtable.

One thing I agree with Carragher on from the other night though, as bad as the Scousers were they never threw in the towel like this team has. Came close under Hodgson maybe. But they were a nothing team for decades but could still raise it in big games. Ours dissolve under pressure.

Ah the old "nobody is amazing so it's okay if he's shit" argument. We don't expect mctomonay to be brilliant in any season. It would be like expecting Burnley to finish in the top 4. But he's particularly awful on the ball. Shocking that he starts for us. That's how poor the options are.

Yes, because all of his team mates are really playing world class football.

How about when McTominay set up Bruno for a golden chance in the first half? No. Didn't see it? How about when he sliced the Arsenal defence with a pass to Lingard, which Lingard miss controlled? Didn't see that, either?

Oh. Forgot. We have to have a scapegoat and absolve everyone else. Silly me.

Let's just forget about Bruno missing his penalty, too.

That's great. We don't need footballers who can generally put out acceptable performances. A couple of moments here and there are enough to meet our ambitions of being a top 6 club for eternity.

This thread isn't about Mctominay's team mates, it's about him. If we're talking about team mates let's compare our only two real central midfielders who aren't leaving the club or finished- Fred and Mctominay. Fred for all his faults is twice the footballer Mctominay is and has again shown that this season.
