Are pundits and fans exaggerating how bad we've been?

No, we’ve been abject, but I do think some of the criticism lacks context. Greenwood’s situation, which we were obviously unprepared for, has left us absolutely toothless in attack. In addition, Rashford looks like he’s lost interest in football meaning we’re relying on an unporoven youngster and Sancho who’s still settling in to support a still brilliant but ageing Ronaldo. Considering how disjointed our team was before January, Greenwood being exiled was pretty much the final nail in the coffin.

That's what I'm saying, everything with United is exaggerated to an unbelievable level.

I think the team is awful but the level around us isn't much better with the exception of two teams and that's with all the players missing, having an interim manager, a toxic dressing room and a bad board.
You realize Chelsea won CL last season, right? Meanwhile it's a near miracle for us when we get past the groups.

Nah, we're awful. On a par with David Moyes' 'spam 8000009 crossed into the box and see what sticks' years

All of you are right, maybe I'm just getting comfortable with United being a mid-table team.

Still I agree with @OL29, the lack of context is completely missing with regards to this season specifically.

Nah

Been second best in at least 3/4 of the games we've played this season. Been ran around by every team near the relegation zone, got knocked out of the cup at home by a Championship club and have been soul destroyingly dull to watch since the Leeds game.

If it wasn't for Dave and Ronaldo having above average seasons we'd be in a relegation scrap.

No

We are genuinely the most unorganised side in the league, even Norwich are better than us in that regard

The only reason we're not fighting relegation is because of Ronaldo

The Arsenal game I would say we were decent. Horrendous defensively, but impressive going forward. That evens out to a decent for me, away from home. Should not have lost.

Tonight we were appalling. No dressing that up. We hardly created and relied on Chelsea profligacy.

This thread is actually typical of fans being completely fooled by a scoreline.

Based on xG, we scored double the amount of goals we should have and Chelsea scored half the amount of goals expected!

Basically we’ve just stolen a point in a match we got completely smashed in. A more realistic scoreline would be 0-3.

I look at all other teams around the world and lower leagues... they can all make space and run and make plays and passes.... we don't do anything like that and look clueless at times.

It's pathetic

I forget the last time we dominated a match and won. We had 35% possession at home v a Chelsea side that looked lethargic but still way more potent and energetic than us. Thank god for Ronaldo saving us again. On another day they convert their chances and easily win that game. We have +2 goal difference (same as Palace) and are almost guaranteed to finish with our lowest points tally in the premier league. Don't let the top 6 position fool you we've been awful. The new season can't start quick enough for me.

No we're a dreadful team. Practically every non-United match I watch is of better quality than ours and is more entertaining. We're incredibly lucky to be as high as 6th. feck knows how that's happened. Even the matches we've won I don't remember us dominating or looking like we were in control

No. We have been absolute dog shite. I have never seen a worse United side since I started supporting United in 89. We are actually lucky to be in the position we are in the table. Without Ronaldo we would be truly and utterly dismal and in the lower half of the table.

No we are genuinely terrible. Stylistically we play some of the worst football of all the teams in the league and generally this is as bad as I’ve seen us at any point during the post SAF era

2 wins in 11. The club is in the gutter its time to face the truth, our stats are like a relegation team and our players aren't good. We need a major overhaul and revolution to fix this mess.

Yes we are just very unlucky we are 25 points off City in league standings and about 5 years in terms of what both squads offer on the field

Only 25 points? That's not as bad as I thought.

It's Manchester United and at times players played better under Louie. If Real Madrid played like that you would see riots in TV studios and across the streets.

Harsh but justified critique is needed, even if it means few egos rattled in the squad. Rangnick looks like fully understanding that despite being just interim.

Absolutely not. Even without taking into account the results, we are playing like a relegation team with a top goalie and striker at the moment. 6th in the league massively flatters us.

We pick up a good point against Chelsea and all of a sudden it's have people been exaggerating how bad we've been, crikey.

The amount of money we spent in the last transfer window and the player we signed, Verane, Ronaldo who even as a veteran is still a very capable footballer - we should be in that top 3 or at the very least competing for it and just missing out,

even the atmosphere tonight felt empty , a pre season game even. The players have drained us fans from any sort of enjoyment ( excluding DDG and Ronaldo) the rest can all feck off

I would say the results flatter us this season and the results are terrible. How many games have you watched and thought ‘wow we played well and were robbed there?’. Probably the worst United season in terms of overall performance as a team there’s been in 30 years.

The effort and body language in the last two games hasn't been as bad as Neville was making out. The quality is still poor though.

Worth remembering we're very close to breaking a lot of bad records with our performances this season if there was ever any doubt to how bad we've been. We'd have to win our remaining three games just to equal some of our poorest seasons.

I don't think so, in terms of overall performances this is the worst I've ever seen us. There have been almost no positives and that's made this season feel even more bleak to me, there's not even really been a surprising breakthrough like Januzaj or Rashford had, I guess Elanga but his performances haven't quite been to the level as Rashford, Januzaj and Greenwood's when they broke through, not entirely his fault though of course.

Honestly no, these things will always get more press because of the size of the club and the clicks it attracts but for more games than not this season we have looked like a group of players who have never played together and most of whom are not that motivated to try. We have finished in lower league positions than we will finish but we have never looked so disjointed in my time. I would confidently bet on the Moyes team to beat us right now, a lot of money without hesitation.

I say no, but those that say we need 5 or so years to get much better are exaggerating. Things change fast in football and many of the players had their worst season ever now, that is unlikely to repeat. We will be much, much better next season.
